Mine is in the warehouse. When I called them yesterday they assured me that if it's in the warehouse it's a done deal.

So yesterday I ended up submitting two orders - which was my original intent anyway - but with the limit at 1 I'm not sure how the second one got through.  I have one order "In Warehouse" and the other is "Waiting For New Stock."  I had a discussion with Lego CS today, here's the text as it might answer some questions:

JENIFER - Hi Josh 9:04 AM

JENIFER - How can I help today? 9:04 AM

CUSTOMER - Hi Jenifer - I'm looking at my order status and it shows as 'in warehouse' does that mean it's shipping soon? 9:04 AM

JENIFER - Yes, in warehouse means we're getting it ready to ship out! 9:05 AM

CUSTOMER - And a status of Waiting for new stock means a backorder? 9:05 AM

    JENIFER - correct 9:05 AM

CUSTOMER - Okay, great.  I hadn't seen the status change at all since yesterday morning, so was a tad concerned. 9:06 AM

JENIFER - Do you want me to take a look at your order? 9:07 AM

CUSTOMER - Sure, its TXXXXXXXXX 9:07 AM

JENIFER - Yes, that one is on a back order waiting for new stock, but your other order is showing in warehouse. That one should be shipping out today. 9:09 AM

CUSTOMER - Awesome, thanks!  Any ETA on the new stock, or is that not known yet? 9:11 AM

JENIFER - We haven't gotten a date just yet. 9:11 AM

CUSTOMER - Okay, thanks.  9:11 AM

Only two available on Craigslist in the NYC area this morning. I really expected there to be more.

My order has been upgraded to complete and I've got 2 separate tracking numbers now. 1 pending, and 1 that's supposed to come by tomorrow end of day.  I hope that one is the falcon, and I'm assuming the other one is the freebies.  I still have not heard word 1 about the black VIP card from Lego but I guess I shouldn't worry about that yet.

I'll be interested to see how this all arrives and how it's packaged.  Guessing like in store purchases without the wheels.
Check the weight of the one coming tomorrow

Has anyone who ordered in the UK yesterday had their shipping notification yet? I'd not normally be bothered as orders of mine in the past have taken a couple of days in the warehouse. With all the fuss yesterday though, I'm a bit edgy.
I thought I saw a couple of people yesterday say theirs had been shipped (one was expedited) but both were before my order anyway. I got my order in at about 7:19am iirc, my order number is T306244763 for what it's worth.
My order has shipped.. and I am 600 odd above you. I assume it's just random, and as payments are cleared etc. They are shipped...

So yesterday I noticed my SD card in my phone stopped reading, come to find out it fried from my phone overheating trying to place a order for 2 hours when the site was acting all funny.

Indeed - which leaves me at least second guessing what to do.  Would Lego only produce enough VIP cards to cover the first say 10,000 sets sold which was Venunder guess of volume of this first batch or would they see the error in their calculations and continue to produce them for the foreseeable future.  And then would they then start to produce exclusive minifigures for a really small portion of market many of which are could be these eBayers who may never realize to claim the exclusive benefits.  And why would the Lego group want to feed this group of eBayers all the more in any case, so not only do they make megabucks from selling their spare MF's they get a second bite at the cherry by selling any exclusive minifigures they get during 2018.

And on top of that are any of those with a back order actually sure they have secured a black card or is it just a surprise when the box is opened?

I know I don't have a say but I wish you could convert your VIP points into member benefits such as a black card rather than money off.  Although I do recall my smugness when I purchased my UCS Snowspeeder in store on launch day for around £20 having traded in all my VIP points.  However I must admit I feel anything other than a VIP at the moment although I am sure Lego had no intention of alienating their loyal customers.

Thanks @Fireheart. I guess it must be random or some unfathomable system as I'm in East Anglia too and I'd thought it might be a shipping logistics via region thing.

If you say something comes out October 1st you should have some available October 1st.  Otherwise it should have been a VIP exclusive launch.  I can't blame them business wise for deciding to sell all they had now, but I certainly won't be lining up to defend them when Oct 1 hits.

And it sends the message that you have to be a VIP to be able to get hold of similar sets in the future. So LEGO gets more names and addresses.

I think you may be onto something.   I have been on to customer service and something isn't ringing right with what they told me but that might be my over active imagination.

They either have great tactics to get nutters like me off the phone or they are genuinely holding some information back.

The message I got was to basically calm down, if I keep my cool and watch the website or even check with them daily they are confident I will get a MF and I will get a VIP card.

But I think I must have refreshed the MF Product page a thousand times today.  My heart still skips a beat while it refreshes.  It says coming soon for a split second until it realises I am logged in as a VIP member when it changes to Temporarily out of stock.

I wouldn't worry too much. Anyone that wants this set is going to be able to purchase it at RRP.

If you want the black card, then you will obviously need to do it sooner rather than later, but even so, you have a few months yet.

I'm sure if you check in here, then threads will get updated once stock is available for order again.

Right, I wouldn't blame you for being upset. The point was they shouldn't have taken backorders.  VIPs should have had access to X amount of sets and a pool should have been left for the public launch.  Saying coming October 1st! and then, never mind, we sold them all (and some future batches) to VIPs, better luck next time seems very disingenuous.

Geez, some people get really upset for not being able to buy a toy... reading the forums, reddit, comments, etc.  The set is also currently rated 2.9 out of 5 on their website (US version, if it differs) due to a handful of bitter old guys rating it one star.  It's embarrassing.

I like the sound of "exclusive mini figures"  Depending on how exclusive that could really make this black VIP card worth the trouble.
If LEGO put it out there that the card was essentially worthless (other than a status symbol) that wouldn't inspire any purchasers.  I suppose all sorts rumours will be mongered about potential UCS MF SW VIP giveaways.

While I think rating the product they don't even have poorly based on what is a customer service issue is childish and petty, I really can't blame people for being upset with how this whole thing was handled.  I am all for giving new companies a break, but one of Lego's size and history?

Not going to lie I was livid when I missed out the cut at the store. (Mall multiple doors, the other doors opened first) but I decided to hang around and try online with the other late arrivals. I'm still mad about the line issue, but Lego had no hand in that, snd doesn't change how epic the product is.

I'm not sure how to react to this odd sense of entitlement.  I think a company would want to sell a potentially limited amount of product to loyal customers willing to provide valuable marketing information.  Or wait in lines at malls, or those that wake up at ridiculous times to view a faulty website.

And how would you differentiate a 'public' purchaser from a clandestine VIP purchaser that missed the initial VIP launch?  It's impossible or logistically silly.

And for those leaving ignorant 1-star reviews, reserve those ratings for truly terrible products like the Batman CMF display frame.

I have a question which i don't think i've seen around. When does Lego (if) release the instructions in PDF form. I generally prefer to build using my laptop/iPad then trying to fit/use a 500 page book taking up so much space on the build area.

    Cheers
I'm sure they'll release it - haven't seen a set that didn't have PDF instructions.
I'd say sometime after the 'general' release date (01/10).

Ninjago City was released 01/09 to general public and the instructions were posted online on 03/09.

@Mr_Cross my order number is about 60 after yours and I got my yodel shipping notification yesterday. The tracking isnt actually telling me anything yet, which seems pretty common with yodel- I've had stuff out for delivery before the info updates to anything other than 'were expecting your parcel'

    hope yours ships soon

No shipping email for me yet. When I ordered BB8 on the 1st, I got the email on the 4th, and that was over a weekend, so didn't know if the weekend slowed it down. I suspect I'll actually get it delivered on Tuesday or Weds now.

It's really simple, you are fine with Lego lying, I am not.  Coming October 1st means there should be some available October 1st.  It takes little to no effort to become a VIP, but that is irrelevant to my point, it should have never had a public release date if they didn't have enough.

I'd like to point out, I have one on the way so I am not basing this on being bitter, it's simply holding a company accountable for their promotional materials.

No company wants to sit on inventory they can sell.. if you think they'd manufacture sets and just store them while there are customers waiting to buy then you're crazy!

You are right about it being bad form not to have any for the Oct launch.. but I think they will have availability, perhaps the popularity took them a little by surprise.. but they'll have plenty of stock to meet the demand I think.

Just my $0.02, but they were hyping this as 10/01 release. You're right: takes no effort to be a VIP, but when everything on the website says 10/01 and they are tweeting out 10/01, I just thought they'd hold some back for that date.

Lying?  I suppose if LEGO already sold all of the stock in the VIP period prior to making the 'general' release date announcement - then, yes.  I agree.

It would be a worse practice to deny their VIP customers the product and 'reserve' some stock for the October launch.

Agreed, it would have angered two groups instead of one by having some public launch day when VIPs had them backordered.  The problem is their ads are far reaching, I've seen news stories all over about this set, all mentioning the Oct. 1st release date.  So while becoming a VIP is easy people still may not know about it and will show up when they were told and leave disappointed.  It's a crappy situation all around.

In the end they're probably doing both things.  I would bet that they will do everything they can to fill VIP backorders *AND* try and have some - even a very limited amount - for October 1st.  Given how few each LBR store got here in the States, I would bet there are more in the pipeline to hit shelves in two weeks' time.

I suppose those smart LEGO marketing folks are content with annoyed and frustrated customers seeking product, rather than a warehouse full of product they can't sell.

I definitely agree that a 'mass' shortage ultimately is not good for business.

But if I can't get a UCS MF, I would gladly buy an Assault on Hoth or a Death Star if they would give me one of those black VIP cards...

I was not going to be a day one buyer, so I was not paying close attention, but didn't LEGO advertise the early release for VIP members on the website and in stores? I know they mentioned it on their Facebook page, and it was mentioned in a Brickset article on August 31. Did LEGO have any advertising for the set that did not mention the VIP early release?

At least it appears the majority of sets were sold to "civilians", unlike the recent Nintendo systems that got snapped up by employees at the retailers before they even hit the shelves. I imagine being a Leicester Square LEGO store employee who wanted one and had to watch 150 get sold would be the opposite of "chuffed" (unless there is a special sales channel for store employees).

Well, it certainly sucks for people who want one (I'd be disappointed too), but I don't think it's bad for them.

They've sold every copy they planned to make (either limited by artificial scarcity or manufacturing limits, doesn't matter), and will continue to do so as they trickle back into stock. So from the perspective from the business they've hit their targets earlier than expected.

The only way this is bad for business is if the negative sentiment turns into people not buying what they make, either now or in the future, and I don't think that's going to happen.

Just speculating but I think you could expect TLG to allow staff to place a reservation for one MF,
but with it being so popular the staff may have to wait for the second or third production run to actually get the set?
Or maybe the staff got priority and have the first 200-300 sets?

^ From what I understand, and correct me if I'm wrong (what am I saying, of course someone will do that anyway), but I don't think Lego employees are able to get them yet.

I know a guy who has kept his employment at a Lego store until he can get these set w/an employee discount, but he has to wait at least a month or so until it's not so "in demand" so that he can actually get it.

Must be crazy hard to just watch people walk away with a set you can't have yet! (at a discount, anyway)
