Future of Nexo Knights?

From what I heard, The Legends of Chima (we'll call it LOC here on out) lasted about two years, from 2013 to 2015 before it was replaced with NEXO Knights (We'll call it NK). Since it is nearing the point where LOC was retired in comparison, I was wondering if they'll retire NK soon. I haven't heard much news about the theme, but since working at Toys R US, the number of NK sets has drastically reduced and they are discounting a lot of them like the $100 Fortrex for 40% off. What is the probability that'll NK will go the way of LOC by the end of next year?

Well three years is the norm for action themes, so it wouldn't be far fetched.

CHIMA lasted that long with sets throughout all three years (despite how it succeeded). NEXO Knights has at least one more wave in bound next year, to add more info too it all.

Though to be honest. No one outside of LEGO really has any idea how all this retirement stuff works. Only predictions.

It does seem, however, that LEGO is starting to be very open about D2C sets retiring, what with their Facebook post about the Palace Cinema, and the "Last Chance" tags below the UCS TIE Fighter and Assault of Hoth in the Fall 2017 catalog.

Chima was around for THREE full years - 2013 (appeared right at end of 2012), 2014 and 2015 (went Nov/Dec, later still in independent stores).

I expect they will retire NK at the end of next year if it follows the three year plan of 2016, 2017 and 2018. There are already sets 72001-72006 in the database, so I expect it will be around next year.

Yeah, I would not be surprised to see Nexo Knights end next year. It hasn't been unsuccessful, but I also haven't seen evidence of it having exceptional success on the level of Ninjago. And three years is generally where most non-evergreen themes cap out.

That said, it's still too early to say for absolute certain. I had had similar worries about Elves ending after this year (its third full year of sets), but at this point it's looking more and more likely that it will be continuing after all.

Next year's theme for Nexo Knights is "tech infection". There were teasers in a recent magazine and on the Merlok 2.0 app. But you are correct that 2018 may be its final year, since three years is a pretty normal length for a moderately successful "Big Bang" theme like Chima or Nexo Knights.

maybe because there is far less competition between the different minidolls themes.

I think for me and my kids the story lines and characters (especially the villains) were not compelling. These kind of stories for kids need a really strong and threatening villain. It was hard to take the Book of Monsters and Jestro seriously. Ninjago for instance did a much better job at it.

Then we can talk about ALL the vehicles, and some questionable design choices when it came to the rock monster season.

That being said, most of the mechs were great, as were the new parts the theme introduced.

I'm not so sure. My son has enjoyed playing NK without having watched any of the cartoons. He has played the app though. The villains are what you want them to be, as are the knights.

We quite enjoyed the theme.

My son loved the books. The book of monsters is one that he keeps going back to. He also really enjoys the game, we don't own any consoles so he's not yet introduced to too many elaborate ones. He plays it regularly. I wasn't a fan in the beginnning, but the sets kind of grew on me. They did seem very similar too each other from one to the next season except some colours. But sets like Jestro's Vulcanic lair, Knighton Castle with a space shuttle on top!

I'm not a fan of the funky green from the last wave, but we actually both liked the purple year. The episodes my son thought were pretty funny but I felt there was less variation in them than with Ninjago.

Even though we enjoyed it, always good to have something new to focus on, keep it fresh :)

My nephew liked Arron Fox and Robin(confusing with Batmans sidekick) ultimates, got more for future presents He's 4 so it's ripped apart ,He doesn't know themes He just LOVES Lego, me I'm hapy its ending cos I did want to get more so now I can move on

it's a good theme.
however even this years 6 set's are not trying.
i will get them... but there not that grate.
i think i will end up useing them to make up the cash numbers when it come to GWP on Shop@home. will try to get them on sale but JL dont place stuff on sale alot. and shop@home sales sell so fast i never get a look in!

I fully expect to be called out on my Nexo hate again, but this set is just a crappy reminder for me that Lego no longer has a classic medieval theme and it will probably be a long time or maybe never before we see it again. The pile of crap that is Nexo Knights is no substitute.

Hey, here's a fairly novel idea: instead of complaining and moaning about the themes TLG's doing that you clearly don't personally like (not gonna argue with you about it - it's your opinion after all, and you're entitled to it as such innit), why not use that time to hit up bricklink and use your own unique imagination to make things you do like instead - y'know, the main selling point of Lego? Just a thought.

Regardless of how anyone feels about Nexo Knights, it's not like it has prevented us getting a more traditional Castle theme - the latter has a three-year cycle; it's going to be back again, and if NK hadn't been there in the meantime, there'd have been some other theme which people may or may not have enjoyed.

Yes it's my opinion, and you certainly have a right to dislike my opinion. I sure wish I had the time, creativity, and money to design and build my own classic castle sets. I don't, sadly. I might never get them and that's ok. Lego is going to manufacture and release sets they think will make money and I understand that.

All that said, to me Nexo Knights is clearly an alternative to a more traditional castle theme. As such, if successful, less odds of me ever seeing that. A failure, better odds maybe I see a classic castle theme in my lifetime. I'm not going to piss and moan if I don't get it, but I'll take joy in the failure of sets that are the likely alternative to what I'd like to see.

And to all those that enjoy NK, more power to them. I hope they aren't letting my opinion ruin their good time.
