I turn 40 this year and have more disposable income and still think $800 is really to much to spend on one LEGO set. And I have no idea where I would display it. Those are the exact same arguments I had when the first came out. LEGO is banking on people "not missing out" like they did the first time.

I`ve mentioned this set to my wife, and she said she would be infuriated if I bought a UCS Falcon. She`s very tolerant of my Lego addiction but I think that price of the Falcon (not to mention where we would display it) is too much.
It's funny isn't it. It seems fine to spends £1000s / $1000s on lego if buying lots of smaller sets, but not $800 or so on one big one.

Same with art, do you spend a significant sum on one really nice centrepiece that really needs little else around it, or double that on loads of OK pieces to fill an entire wall?
Buying a £20 or £30 set as a little present to yourself once in a while instead of going out to lunch or something is one thing. Spending £700 on plastic bricks is another. There is so much more you can do with that sort of money. That's the equivalent of a family holiday, or even a (cheap) second hand car.
Yes, I know. But then if you saved up all those £20-30 spends, you'd also have a decent sum for a holiday. That is the strange part of it.

I know logically that makes sense but I think it's still the huge outlay in one go that makes it different. I often have 20 quid in my wallet. I never have £700.

As both a collector and Moc builder I see the new Falcon as an enrichment of my hobby. I will be able to build Mocs like hangers and landing sites and use the Falcon as a centerpiece. Also I imagine the building experience will be one of the best ever, and with it being Lego I will probably take it apart and rebuild it several times.

It's not cheap, but I can handle it. However I can imagine not everyone can cough up the cash for this. Let's hope there are enough Afols around to share some of its joy at Lug meetings and such.

There will be two more, one better, one worse. Then you can wait another 16 years for the rest to be start to appear, although you'll be sorely disappointed when they do.

This sounds amazing. You must not have toddlers in your house. My Falcon would resemble Alderaan within 24 hours. But I'm not jealous or anything.

    ^ I'VE GOT A GREAT IDEA!!
Rather than release it in one box, they should do a magazine with like £10 worth of parts each month, charge £2 for the first one to reel the suckers in, then charge £14.99 for each of 80 proposed issues but then somewhere around issue 27 just cancel it for no apparent reason...
    ...oh hang on!
Err, the Dimensions thread is that way ->

I WISH i had turning 40 ahead of me :-(
I heard that. Got 50 smacking me in the face this year. FIFTY. It's not right. There must be a clerical error. I play with toys, laugh at farts, watch 60 minute YouTube examinations of 2-minute Star Wars trailers. I have a BATMAN bathmat and a Spongebob traffic signal in my room, but I click my Imperial Red lightsaber lamp off every night at the side of the bed. No WAY I am turning 50.

What thread was this again? ;)
Age is just a number. :)

If we're going by the suggested age on the box of the LEGO we buy, we're all roughly 12-16+. And in some cases 4+...
Yes it is just a number...but it is a number which my body seems hell-bent on listening to..

Haha, no I do not have toddlers in my house.

But I do remember a time when one of my nephews became Sauron himself and turned a Hobbiton Moc of mine to complete ruin...

He is a few years older now but still has destructive qualities that would amaze even Palpatine...

    So, new teaser due today.
I'm calling it now: the unit will be weight, and they'll compare it to the Mountain Cave.
  • BartelasBartelas Hiking Into Mordor Member Posts: 130
Having used my incredible detective skills, I can tell you they'll throw it at us at 12:00 p.m.

    (Regarding their patern) ;{)

If I were them I'd have two boxes on a big set of scales. I could be wrong but I don't think they'll digitally alter an image - such as whiting out a load of parts - because the two previous reveals have needed no such alterations.

Number of bags and Assembly Square would still be my bet, the comparisons have been creator so far and I think they'll keep it as an 'in-house' set comparison, otherwise they'll need approval from two license holders.
I think you're right @Bartelas it will be in time for morning on the east coast of the US.

I reckon the next two teasers will be comparing the piece count and maybe a silhouette of the model.
  • CCCCCC UKMember Posts: 18,313
Number of bags inside is a pretty boring statistic. Some small sets can have relatively high numbers of bags, especially ones with bags in bags.

I'll say weight for this week's teaser, and piece count for next week's teaser.

I'm guessing that tomorrow's will be weight, 8/22 will be length or width, and 8/29 will be a piece count.
  • PaperballparkPaperballpark UK / KLMember Posts: 3,545
How would they demonstrate model length without showing a whited-out model though?

I guess they could put Xcm by Ycm by Zcm.

  • Matt89190Matt89190 UKMember Posts: 295
Weight today (against Mountain Cave), piece count next week (against Assembly Square) and some obscure shot of the model on the 29th.
  • WatfordScottyMWatfordScottyM Member Posts: 402
Both of the comparisons so far have been very visual things.  Comparing weight or piece count (without showing the pieces) would be odd.

I'm not sure what they're going to reveal, if anything, but it's got me excited, probably far more than a 38 year old man should be!

A good teaser would be a photo of all the pieces in the set - which is what I'm hoping for (much like the teaser of the Minecraft Mountain Cave) :-D

They're going to troll us aren't they? Two teasers a month before, then nothing more until the day... :/

  • WatfordScottyMWatfordScottyM Member Posts: 402
5pm BST on 1st August and then 2pm BST on 8th August.  Could be any time this afternoon....  Or not...

now that I've saved up enough money to buy myself a brick linked UCS falcon. I hear rumours going about that a new re-release of the 10179 is to come out this year..
is it possible that this is true? And when would they be likely to announce this if true?
I'm guessing I'm not the only one wanting to know asap ha

Haha I bet you didn't expect this kind of blowup by opening this discussion! xD
