Well, it seems like the story of my life lately is "What I'm Trying to Buy That Ends Up Falling Through at the Last Second"...

I had a bid going on an Ebay lot. Roughly 15lbs that was predominately Harry Potter stuff. There was minimum interest, even in the last moments. I put my top bid out. As the clock hit 0 it looked like I had got it. Then got the notice someone out bid me. Figures...

Then just had another buy fall through on two other Harry Potter sets (I've never collected HP stuff, but it seemed to all be the right price). The Knight Bus and Hogwarts Express 3rd edition for $40 total........... Ten minutes before the meet up time to exchange goods, I get a note from the seller saying he did some research and would still sell to me for $300. I did my best to be gracious in my response, but I'm sure my annoyance was evident. Obviously I was getting them for a total steal, so I'm not faulting him. I just need something to go my way!

^ I find that vexing.  I had a guy try to renegotiate a set of Ninja Turtle Lego at the exchange.  I have no sympathy for folks who decide to do research after they make an agreement.

#75523 - Scarif Stormtrooper and #70593 - Green NRG Dragon. I walked out of a VERY seedy Walmart with two more items checked off of my want list for only $20.

^Yeah, it was frustrating to say the least. I had confirmed that he was okay with the $40 several times. I didn't offer up what they were worth, but that wasn't my job. He verified several times back that he agreed to $40 and we were locked in. Ugh...
  • YodaliciousYodalicious Member Posts: 1,366
^ I've had the reverse as well where the buyer tried to change the price. Not on LEGO, but twice have had an agreed upon price with a buyer on something only to have the buyer show up an say "well, how about this much instead?" And offer something lower. One time my wife quickly said "no, we agreed on this amount" and the person said "okay" and paid the initial amount. The second time the person said "then I don't want it" and walked off.

I'd be willing to bet London to a brick that they don't do a single ounce of research.  You're the first caller - you agree on a price and set up the deal.  Then the second caller speaks to them only to be told 'Sorry guy, another buyer has already called, the deals been done and they're on their way'.  The second caller then  says 'On boy that's a real shame - that item was actually worth X' OR they offer the seller more cash to nix the already agreed to deal.  Funnily enough , in instances where the second caller becomes the first calller - a conversation about actual worth never seems to be had...

^After being caller two on a killer deal for a UCS Y-Wing and AT-ST for $100, I just about was that guy and let them know what it was really worth. But, not my place to do it. I almost guarantee that's what happened here.

I've lost out on a lot of sales for various reasons. Trying to sink someone else's chances has never been a priority of mine though.

Obviously it's been a while since I had the full Monty of participation...but over the past couple of months I've been buying. Building a little though not as often. Last thing I built was all but bag 3 of the Caterham. It sits unfinished in my cabinet. I have hopes after a meeting last week and this week with a behavioral specialist in Autism regarding my son. Good feeling about what we can accomplish together, this man. Perhaps it might lead to less free time and even less building short term, but long term more freedom to explore hobbies and returning to my career but most importantly relief from the severe aggression that often grips my child.

Meantime...I have been wanting to share some of my scores, and some of my horror shows from eBay.

So the Comic-Con sets really lifted my spirits. I don't own a lot of HIGTAYD* LEGO Sets. And I'm not all about that really, but it is nice to have something where I can look at the database and know I am one of the really small number in the "Own It" section. Plus they are damn nice pieces. I just wish they would not take a League member like J'Onn and make him so hard to get. This isn't a minifigure, where he shows up in a set down the road. It's a bit unfair, as were some of last years Brickheadz from Comic-Con.

Anyway, let's get to a horror show...trying to complete Ultra Agents. Deals abound on Hurricane Heist. Thought I got a GREAT one on eBay last week. Oh man...I thought I had seen it all? I hadn't.

@sid3windr Oops I forgot to define my asterisk. It's a goofy thing a buddy of mine used to say to each other. Pronounced hig-TAID. Stands for Hey I Got This And You Don't!

@tallblocktoo Thanks appreciate that. I generally try not to dwell on it when I post here (that's what Instagram and Facebook are for) but it's difficult for this not to carry over into every aspect of life. Especially explaining long absences. :)

I was pretty close with a number of my words then :D My definition of it is what occurs when I see a deal of something I already own but didn't remember (long live the mybrickset android app!)

There was a time a decade or so ago where I was DEFINITELY that guy!  I would cajole, crush and kill as required to ensure I got ALL the deals.
I aged, I mellowed and began to realise your Dharma ALWAYS dictates your Karma.

Moral of the story?  Don't be THAT guy!

I was a dumbass...the deal was so good I bought before reading the feedback...which wasn't great. None of the negative feedback that had been left actually said that the Seller shipped liked this.

eBay today granted me a return...as soon as the money is back in my PayPal, the negative feedback I intend to leave for the Seller, however, will be quite specific. ;)

For me I'd say it's 7/2/1 these days. 7 packages I get are way below what I consider acceptable standard. 2 are pretty good. 1 is excellent. But even LEGO ships using a method I consider below an acceptable standard for collectibles. But I have a standard that maybe some people would think is unreasonable. People that have bought stuff from me usually don't though.
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
Slapping the label on the box is unacceptable. If it is shipped in a reasonably sturdy shipping box, that's really ask you can ask for or expect. Air bags or bubble wrap is just bonus. First world problems indeed.

#41004 Rehearsal Stage at a garage sale for $3. only thing I saw of interest, LEGO or otherwise, at about a half dozen garage sales. It was obviously taped and resealed, so I opened it and everything appeared to be there, particularly the minidoll and big plates. It had never been finished. Keeping the minidoll and bricklinking most of the rest. (Used - Like New except the contents of a still sealed small bag as New)

I puncture the airbags with a letter opener and recycle them. Stores in my state have to take plastic bags for recycling - intended for disposable shopping bags, but also works for others.

@blogzilly I do believe in specific feedback comments, good or bad.

I do too but I think it's a sign that I buy too much stuff online when I am storing pretty much the same amount of shipping supplies (boxes, envelopes and fillers) as I am Lego!

Since my last post I've been doing much better in the (not) buying.  Only #41235 and another #10704, but the large creative box was for decor purposes and not building purposes so my boyfriend said it didn't have to count toward my Lego spend :)

Garage sale had 7 6 quart Sterilite tubs, what I use for BL inventory (the same model helps because they stack better). Got them for $2, regular price is about $1 each and 80c is a decent sale. Another sale had what looked like DUPLO, but other brands.

@pharmjod @khmellymel I nearly always ship in bubblemailers so I have little need to save airbags (or empty boxes, packing peanuts, etc) and I'm low on space as is.

@sirbrickalotoflego 15 pounds is about $20 and average price for #7692 on BL is about $34.

Great theme for the most part. Better than Space Police III. Surprisingly war-related.

Finally picked up the Assembly Square at 15% off here in Malaysia, which brings it down to RRP in the US (prices are a little inflated here).

Opened it to discover that the instruction booklet is torn on the back cover, and bent awkwardly. Sent in a request to LEGO customer service for a new copy but for some reason the request got rejected automatically by their system. Sent them an email to follow up so hope they can solve the problem.

Finally my TLBM polybag collection is complete!

Was slightly annoyed that #30612 Batgirl was exclusive with the dvd AND exclusive with certain retailers only. With none of those retailers anywhere close to me.

Fortunately a colleague has now picked it up for me in Germany.

Not interested in the discs, but there's enough languages on this German edition that my nieces/nephews do understand. (I buy 4K/Blu-ray only if I want a physical copy)

Oh, nice! Thanks for the tip about Germany, let's see if they carry this in Obserhausen next weekend.
  • stluxstlux Member Posts: 2,450
@sid3windr In Germany it's an exclusive to Kaufland. (Not to be confused with Galeria Kaufhof!)

There seem to be 2 Kaufland stores in Oberhausen. However depending how you drive to Oberhausen, some other Kaufland stores might be closer? Looking at the map there seem to be several next to highway exits.

Oh. That IS a very good tip because I was planning on touring the stores in CentrO, but there's no Kaufland there. I'll take it into account!

I decided to make a run to a Thrift Store in my area I have previously not checked for Lego. Turns out it was worth the trip, even for a little find.

I was able to pick up #40155 Piggy Coin Bank, including the ironic Sausage eyebrows, for $2! I guess it's not the best deal ever had out there, but I was pretty thrilled with it and I know my son will be too.

...now if only it had the money left inside of it from the previous owner too...

Adding a little bit of everything. Gonna try to roll out some pics from the last couple of months hauls. Way behind in my duties.

Apologies for the totally un-filtered picture. I...have no excuses. ;)

Ive also seriously gutted my Want List. Makes...a lot more sense to me now. More balance. And more reasonable.
