My local Wal-Mart marked down a few more items. Fun in the Park was $15, Green NRG Dragon $19, Jestro's Mobile HQ was $35, City Race Plane was $4, and the Volcano and Airport starter packs were $4 or $5 each. Was hoping to see further markdowns on the Ultimate Batmobile, but no cigar.

^If you didn't live on the other side of the country from me, I might have tapped you on the shoulder for Fun in the Park. It seems like I've only seen it for $50 or more...ugh...

Yeah, I need to stay out of Wal-Mart, picked up some more stuff today I wasn't super interested in, but once it hits 50-60% off I just can't say no.

I'm seeing most of what's already been posted above....ton's of Friends 50% off(Cupcake Café, Supermarket, Sports Complex) Elves #41179 for $35 and #41180 for $49...was still a little hesitant at those prices, but there were 3+ on the shelve of each.
  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Rochester, NYMember Posts: 1,829
@Hanzo I passed on #75102 Poe's X-Wing for $49 because I got #75149 Resistance X-Wing from Target for $54.99 in January. Not the first time I've jumped on a deal only to see a better one, but it's not a big difference considering the wait and target redcard discount. Most CITY doesn't interest me and isn't a great deal for parts so I'm waiting for even bigger discounts on those

My turn to post awesome finds
I saw some #41180 (elf castle) for $49 yesterday and went back this evening for them. However, there were some much better deals this time
    3 #41232 super hero high $30
    3 #41185 goblin village $25
    4 #41233 Lashina Tank $5 [I might get it at $10]
    #41300 $9 #41301 $7 (dog show)
    2 #41172 Water Dragon Adventure $7
#41129 Hot Dog Van $15 [been waiting to see that better than 20% off

passed on several half off sets

This Walmart clearance is killing me. Keep picking up more every time I walk into Walmart past couple days.  Couple more I saw between yesterday and today that I haven't seen mentioned yet.

#75139 Battle on Takondana $15 - Picked up 1.  Saw 3 more between 2 stores
#75148 Encounter on Jakku $30 - Saw 3 in one store.  Passed
#41068 Arendelle Castle Celebration $30 - Picked one up for my girls
    #60104 Airport Passenger Terminal $45 - passed
#31049 Twin Spin Helicopter $15 - picked one up

I saw 1 #70917 at one store yesterday for $99.  Debated.  Walked to other isle.  Came back.  Son point out Scuttler on low shelf to Mom.  Mom looks up and points to #70917 on top shelf.  I couldn't understand their language.  They pick up and leave.  Saved me $99.

Couple others that I purchased and passed, but can't remember.  It's starting to blur.

Question:  If I were to pick up #75157 for $59 at one store, go to another that shows $30 - no stock at another store on brickseek, would I be able to get the difference back?  What if I returned and then rebuy it?  Does Wally do this?  Anyone try and have success?  I want this set, but struggling at $59.  Comfortable at $30.

I've done the above scenarios before and basically it all depends on the manager.  If the discount for the price match is too low, the computer will flag the service desk to call the manager.  If you ask to do a return and buy again, it's up to the employee if he/she will do it.

I can generally get to only 1 walmart anyway
    2 #76072 mm ironman thanos $5
    2 #41303 puppy playground $2.50
    6 #10728 mia's vet clinic $11
Some other sets are a solid deal at 50% but I'm hoping for 60-70%

@Keilup what you are describing is inventory manipulation. I'm not making a judgement call because quite frankly I don't care. However it is largely frowned upon as unethical behavior.

Considering Wal-Mart just cancelled my legitimate preorder for the snes classic I'm inclined to say take advantage of them however one can legally. If I return a more expensive set to a store where it is cheaper and if it's still at the store the next time I'm there I will buy it then. If someone else gets it, good for them. I don't try to return and rebuy at the counter. I take LEGO back all the time though, mostly because I realize I've bought it compulsively when it was on sale. My job takes me to out of the way Wal-Mart and occasionally I'll forget my self control if I see LEGO on clearance. I'm getting better though.

@pharmjo I see what you're saying.  Most stores have price guarentee policies - price is lower, bring in and get price adjustment.  Wally doesn't have that I believe.  And their pricing as I'm sure you all know varies crazy from store to store.  Very strange how they do it.  Guess they have every right to say no.  And I have every right to return it to any store and of course I can buy at that store at their listed price if they're willing to sell to me.  I wouldn't suggest trying to take advantage of any store, but simply play by their rules and what they do.  So if a store is willing to adjust price or return and allow rebuy at lower, is that really unethical?  It's their call.  I'm just trying to get the most by spending the least any legal way possible.

Anyway stopped at a 3rd store for today.  Similar clearance thought less and prices not as good (for example #60104 was $59 instead of $45 at different store).  Did find 2 of #70917 for $99 though, but passed.  I spent enough today on better deals.

It's Walmart....Who knows!?  It's always a crap shoot.  I found some of those $49.99 Ninjago sets while out of town, that were clearance out at the end of May for $25.  I ended up buying 1...week or so later my nearest WM lowered the price down to $13.  So late one night I decided to take the $25 one back to the store I purchased them at $13.  I had some knucklehead tell me I was "trying to cheat the system and WM doesn't like that" and he'd only give me $13 in refund.  He couldn't give me a coherent answer as to why I wouldn't get my full refund of $25.  Apparently HIS WM philosophy is WM will only refund you what WM is currently selling it for...not what you paid.  Probably didn't help that this was at midnight.....I suppose even dumber employees work at night there.

Just do the simple return and then go grab the cheaper one off the shelf and buy it. If he refused to refund your original purchase price, not knowing you were planning on rebuying, then that's pretty sh*tty of them.

Even if it's okay to stick it to the man like that, I'm afraid it might come down on average folks working for the man. Yet to them it's just business, and turnabout is fair play.

@Keilup "I spent enough today on better deals" similar here. I might wait til next week, but supermarkets are particularly busy the first few days of the month from people using new food stamps and it might not be the best time to go in for non-groceries

@Bumblepants nice, I was glad to get 2 #70348 at WM for $11 and 4 #70349 at Target for $14

Returns at Walmart are very strange. I took back a set last year that I bought at 30% off and it rang up at the return counter for 70% off, and when the lady saw it she asked me if I wanted to repurchase it at that price without any comment from me. The parameters for returns there seem to be, in general, subjective to the store, manager, and employee trifecta.

Agree....plus no one wants to pay anymore for any value added customer service. What used to be a valued and appreciate sales tool has lost all monetary value in the "on-line" age of shopping.

Exactly; I was in a Target the other night and some guy was asking for help looking for a specific item.  For the next 10 minutes I must have crossed paths with him and the Target associate 5 times.  The whole time I'm thinking "ARRGGHHH, dude, find it yourself - you're just making everything cost more".

    Times have changed...  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I had a WM 'support manager'..whatever that is...enough to make him in charge on the night shift...tell me that Walmart stores won't price match other Walmart stores because they set their own prices(not entirely true).  Walmart stores will only price match Walmart.com.

@thedingman5 @Astrobricks ; - If the training is at all like it was several years ago for floor level employees at Target & Walmart, you don't actually learn where anything is unless you do it yourself. They teach you how to be nice to people (which doesn't seem to stick well) and beat you over the head with how important it is not to steal from the company in a myriad of ways (complete with videos), then they teach you how to deal with emergencies (the different codes). At that point, they stick you with another member of the team you are on for your actual training. There is no discussion of what stock goes where and what is currently out there and knowing sales flows or where the stock for your section is in the (gigantic) storage room. Lots of guys would be asked to go check, go into the storage room and mill about and talk to others for a few minutes, then go back out and say there was nothing back there. They had no idea where anything was on the floor or in the back. But we did learn how to straighten the aisles at the end of the day!

tl;dr box store floor training is abysmal.

I don't agree with your comments. I have been a Target team member for 20+ years. I do not train others to do what you say they do. We have devices that allow us to check the stock room and allow us to pull it from the back if necessary.
It is also nearly impossible to memorize every item in the store and it's exact location. Maybe you have had some bad experiences but you should not generalize about every retail employee. Most of us go above and beyond our duties to help "guests".

@starfire2 I actually also used to work for Target, but that was several years ago, as I said. I also did not mean every employee was a layabout, many were great, and I tried to be also, but I had to learn most of it myself. That could be the store I worked at during the time I worked there. My experience, however, with some Targets, but especially Walmarts, is that the person who works in that department often has no idea what is in his own department, unless they take the initiative themselves to find out.

I am glad that you have a great Target to work at and that you care enough not only to do your job well, but to come on here and speak up about it!

^ According to Macmillan Dictionary, groceries are "food and other goods for the home that you buy regularly." With the exception of the word "food," it sure sounds like LEGO to me!

    3 #70351 $25 and 6 #41142 $9 in toy clearance aisle
    3 #60100 $4.50 from regular aisle

Going back for #41312 $19 and #41124 $15 later when I have more cash and cargo capacity

Thought of another WM sort of out of my way which I'll check on a day when I have fewer other things to do

I fight with this dilemma all the time, wait for a better deal and risk them running out. Someone suggested buying sets when you see them, then if you see it cheaper at another store buy it and take that one back to the store that charged more but that makes me feel dirty.  Though it wouldn't hurt to ask for a price adjustment and see what they say.

It's cleaner to just return it if you find one cheaper. Price adjustments rarely work at Wal-Mart, especially with clearance. Some people have issues with this practice, but in my opinion that's why retailers have return policies.

I did wait, and yesterday someone bought scuttler and croc for $49 and $45 respectively, today they dropped to $30 but don't exist at that store :/

At least they overpaid?  I still found both but I did have to drive a little further for the deal, 20 min
