I really do not understand why the BB-8 was not made UCS. It has a UCS style plaque and I believe it is scaled to the UCS R2-D2 set from 2012.

It's not a D2C. It's a wide release!! Part of a lineup!! Just cause it looks like one doesn't mean it is!

Ah I see, and I like the word lineup! Any word on if they are all to be scaled to 10225? Or is BB-8's scale just a coincidence?

And Lego can always retrospectively lump it in later.  Maybe on a promotional poster...

I don't think the original Death Star or Ewok Village were originally UCSs.  Or the TIE Collection...

Per the above leak, looks like BB-8 will be the fall Star Wars USC. Perhaps we may see an announcement about a new USC MF but I do not think we will see the set released this year. As mentioned before, I fervently hope that Lego does a 6 month (or more) pre-order period to cut down on the release day hysteria.
Here's a fun question: is BB-8 even a UCS set? It includes a plaque, but the leaked box does not feature a badge, and if the set is a regular retail set rather than a D2C set it does not fit the official qualification. I certainly doubt it takes the place of the rumored falcon either way.

coming with a plaque dosent make a set UCS. Since the sand crawler every ucs set has been labled with the ucs logo so unless it changes BB8 is not a ucs

  • willp2003willp2003 Member Posts: 88
It's too cheap to be UCS. The plaque is a bit strange though, which is why it looks like a UCS model.
  • Mr_CrossMr_Cross Member Posts: 1,689
Just playing devil's avocado (sic) here, but isn't it easier to call the BB8 a UCS because it kind of fits with the R2 from a few years ago? I know it doesn't appear to be (officially) a UCS, but "large scale" or "brick-built" are the other descriptions you could use and it feels like semantics if the only thing stopping it being UCS is a label. If I were cataloguing, would I put it in the list with UCS, or do I put it with the Constraction figures, it's system but not mini-figure scale? Does price really have a bearing on its status as a UCS?
  • LuccideLuccide Member Posts: 42
Lego themselves didn't care for a long time which is why there is no official list of ucs sets as they never tracked them (according to multiple lego reps I have spoken to anyway) they changed that recently by introducing ucs logo badge for ucs sets in an attempt to standardise it

I'm going to have to pare back my collection and go UCS only (due to recent events - our house population is about to double), and i'd buy this to go with my others. It's close enough to consider it UCS - i'm sure it's worthier than Obi Wan's Jedi Star from 5 years or so ago.

Hi everyone, I'm pretty much a n00b on the forum here though I've been reading this thread for a while now. I've been reading a lot of the hundreds of speculative posts here about a possible upcoming UCS MF but I might have missed in case any member here ever mentioned this:
At least one of the featured BrickLists is hinting at a very, very big LEGO set which is going to be announced on September 1st 2017. Of course we can't be sure yet as to what kind of set this will be nor which theme, but it might as well be the rumoured new UCS Falcon as 1) the hint -the comment- was written by the LEGO designer himself; 2) the featured BrickList is also compiled by the designer himself (updated by him on 7 July 2017); 3) this designer has already brought us 2 UCS sets (the UCS Slave I and the not-so-UCS Insult to Hoth... of which the latter he even admitted it "being rather a big play set than a true "UCS" set" and the directive he got of "don't add anything, don't remove anything - just run with it" so we cannot really blame the designer for the end result of 75098. He even stated "Definitely nothing for the hard core collector who already got every set back to 1999, but a good catch-up on everything Hoth for new LEGO Star Wars fans."); 4) the comments he wrote about his participation in 'Insult to Hoth' sound to me like the designer is on one hand explaining the end result and the reason for it being released as is, but I also kind of feel his need and wish for being able to design another, much much better -perhaps unforgettable- set, which hints to me as his wish for designing another SW UCS one (plus he already did the successful Falcon for TFA and he did last year's SW Advent calender to which he commented how he was able "to avoid having to build a stupid weapons rack" so he definitely knows what the fans (dis)like)!

I don't know but I just feel like this might be the hint I was looking for. What about you? If you go through his featured BrickList and go through his comments, what do you say about the possibility of the set to be announced on September 1st being a new UCS MF?
I already own a copy of 10179 (First production run) so I'm a happy camper but I wouldn't mind if a new one is coming out (hopefully with a full interior this time.)

    The featured BrickList: https://brickset.com/sets/list-14074
    BrickCommander is Hans Burkhard Schlömer
The comments hinting at a new big set being announced September 1st can be read in his comments about designing this year's

    75182: Republic Fighter Tank

Hans saying "I did this set as a quick side-project while working on a much, much, much, much, much, much larger set which is going to be announced on September 1st 2017." (Do we even need a bigger hint or coming from a more reliable source than a LEGO employee who is in the LEGO SW design team with 2 UCS sets under his belt?)

And did you know we almost got a LEGO set for the 'Rogue One' transport ship as well if it was entirely up to Lucasfilm? (Read the comments Hans wrote on Krennic's Shuttle! Perhaps we still might get a Rogue One ship in the future...?)

Another thought that might add to the rumours:
As we all know Star Wars is celebrating it's 40th Anniversary this year but sofar we only got the mini brick build R2-D2 on May the Fourth to celebrate this.
The previous UCS MF was released in the fall of 2007, exactly 10 years ago, when SW celebrated it's 30th Anniversary (time for a rerelease and/or update). A new UCS MF wouldn't detract from the upcoming Last Jedi movie as we all anticipate the Falcon will get screen time in EP VIII as well. Perhaps they can release it with 2 exchangeable radar dishes and with the old and new Falcon crew?! Who knows...

At last on September 1st we'll all know if we were right or wrong. In the meantime I'm going to keep on building my other LEGO SW sets, saving up and working overtime for this "much, much, much, much, much, much larger set" and enjoy the summer!

I wish you all a great summer holiday!

Irrelevant - #10026 Special Edition Naboo Starfighter was UCS and retailed for only $40.

Regarding the plaque, can anyone provide examples of non-UCS sets which came with a UCS-style plaque?

I've always followed these for any UCS set, either includes a plaque, is marked as UCS on the box, OR has the corresponding 101xx/102xx product number. So personally, I've always considered 10188, Ewok Village, 2009 Tantive IV, Tie Collection and even Cloud City as UCS sets.

As far as these products and numbers go, do not confuse UCS with D2C.

I think to a certain point in time it's debatable which sets are UCS, since there was no "official" Lego policy or position on the matter.

Now that Lego have (seemingly) realised that the community wants to know if sets are UCS or not they are putting it on the box, which really should end the debate (for new sets anyway). Some are play sets some are display sets, and we'll have to live with that. It's not the way I'd go, but hey, it's not my product.

Anyway the point is if you want a set, can afford it and have somewhere to put it, then buy it, otherwise don't.

If it has friction pins, it must be a UCS Creator Modular.

And I think Lego has beem very clear in their aggresive apathy when it comes to the collector market.  If it sells more product, then slap on the label.  If it isn't going to affect sales, then leave it off.

I don't think it's quite like that. Every Star Wars D2C set since the Sandcrawler has had a UCS badge, every non-D2C Star Wars set hasn't. It's not a matter of them adding it to typical retail sets to sell more product or anything like that—they've just finally standardized what was formerly an inconsistently applied label.

Yep, ever since the Sandcrawler the definition of UCS has been both simple and consistent: "If it's Star Wars and it's D2C, then it's UCS". In a sense, UCS is to Star Wars what Expert is to Creator.

Mind you, there's no reason LEGO couldn't change that definition, since ultimately it's just branding, but currently there's not really any ambiguity about how the term UCS applies to current sets.

See that's the thing; you can tell by the number of new posts alone that there hasn't been an announcement. If there were, the thread would have exploded and there would be hundreds of new posts.

But regardless, if there is going to be an announcement, that September "something big" would probably be it, I'd guess.

BB-8 has grown on me. But I plan on getting 75176 and 75189, not sure I'll have money after that!

Does anyone know the final US prices?

I have a bit of a thing for Rey, so I'll deffo be getting the new Constraction figure. I'm hoping for another smallish vehicle for her in the new film, to give me something to build to scale. The MF would be just a teensy bit big at Constraction scale...

BB-8 looks great to me and will sit along side my R2-D2, as for the rest of them, well I'll just have to wait until the movie Ian out before I decide on them.

BB-8 is great, but if I got him I'd need and R2....
The only other set I like is the Resisitance Bomber - a beautifully armed craft that actually comes with a full crew! The FO Walkers, however, are hideous....

wish i had R2-D2 as well but i not paying the price that being asked for him now.
don't know about the other star wars set's yet. i know there are some good looking model's but it all come down to price. BB-8 is a will buy as soon as he is sub 20% off RRP. to buy all the lego i wish to buy i have to get stuff under RRP.

@Matt89190 - I have been aware of a new UCS Millennium Falcon since the beginning of 2016 but know very few details about its design so honestly don't have anything to share, even if I wanted to.

Huh.  What does 'aware' mean?  More importantly, I suppose knowing any design details would indicate that it does exist.
