Five days ago I found and bought a lot on eBay (you can see pics here) for $50. It doesn't say how many pounds or figures will be included, but from the pictures it looks like a good value for $50 and I was happy with the purchase. As a bonus, the bins are included, which will be handy for storage.

The order shipped the next day, and when I checked the tracking it said 21 lbs, which sounded pretty good for $50. When checking it later, I scrolled farther down on the tracking page, and it said "Packages in shipment: 3"... I clicked that, and it listed 3 packages (each with their own tracking number) and their weights- 21, 21, and 14 lbs. The order is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, I'm very curious as to what could make it be 56 lbs total. The pictures don't seem to show 56 lbs worth of stuff. Wish me luck!

@bobmcpizza you'll probably find either boat weights or motors, they often weigh more - the 9V train motor bogies are considerably weighty for their size.

Looking at the pictures, it does not appear that there are any weights or motors. There could be some hidden I guess, but there aren't many spots to hide. The bins will definitely add some weight, but judging from the pictures I really don't think that the bins and pieces would total 56 lbs, unless he accidentally sent me some other items (which I don't think would be very likely as two of the packages weigh 21 lbs). One thing I thought of is maybe he had instruction manuals that weren't pictured, but even then I don't think it could reach 56 lbs. I could be wrong, but I guess I'll have to wait and see. Can't wait haha. I'll definitely follow up on this!

Also, I posted here about a month ago where I got a lot that included the door from Cafe Corner. I received a 25 lb lot a few days after posting that, and while going through it found another Cafe Corner door. What are the odds? I hadn't gotten any other lots between the first one and the 25 lb one, so that is two consecutive with that door- both times there weren't much of the set excluding the door and the Plankton brick and I couldn't tell the door was there from the pictures. I've gotten two lots since the 25 lb one though, no more doors ;)

    If you mean the black Door 1 x 4 x 5 Right with 6 Panes, that was in a 2004 set as well - Building Bonanza https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=4886-1#T=S&O={}

I mean the LBG one. Both times it was from the Krusty Krab set (Plankton was in both lots). It is not exclusive to Cafe Corner, but was included in it and sells for $20

The lot arrived! It is not anything more than what the photos showed, I guess I just misjudged on my guess of the weight. It's a lot of stuff, there is probably $100 worth of figures alone (I found more after taking that picture, including all 3 figs from the Arctic Bateman set). Very good value for $50, especially for eBay! Sorry if the pics aren't great they're from my phone.

And... Going by the presence of the the Gray Sun Helmet, the Indy fig and the German Soldier fig (with wrong head). I'd be willing to wager you also have #7198 or #7620 amongst that lot.

The Robin Hood figure is actually missing the head. The Clown doesn't have its accessory, but the figure alone is worth $15. There were also a few complete CMFs that are worth ~$5. Over $100 worth of figures total, as well as about 35-40 lbs of pieces (a $50 lot.)

There is also a Iron Man constraction figure that is almost complete, and worth $30 or so.

Yes, that small set is in it, but I don't know how complete it is. I probably won't be trying to build back many sets from the lot

In fear of letting the cat out of the bag (or sausage out of the box?...), what are good strategies for looking for lego lots such as this one on eBay? I feel like the only ones I ever find are questionable, or some $300 lots.

Don't try Ebay. People on Ebay are usually looking to get rich off of some generic pieces.

I wouldn't rule out Ebay entirely - I've seen people list good stuff for fair prices, normally people who don't know what they've got and just use generic terms - I've seen a fair amount of train, town and city stuff go this way.

This is not a brag but I think it belongs in this thread. Due to generosity of an AFOL who was moving on in her life, I was able to get four older modulars (GG, TH, FB and GE) with original instructions and parts for a somewhat reasonable price. I always wanted the older modulars but as a hobbyist, I was never going to pay the market rate beyond the original retail for these or any other sets. It is not a matter of what they are worth but what you can afford and willing to pay for them. The only exception to that was Green Grocer as that is a nice looking set although Parisian Restaurant seems as good. PR is what got me getting all the currently available modulars last year before Assembly Square came out.

Green Grocer was listed for $500 and after much contemplation I offered $300 (twice the retail price) which was accepted. That led to discussing the other three and all in all the four were acquired for $830 ($180 over their original retail). All four are in excellent condition and some missing pieces were provided by the seller who was really helpful in this whole process. Thanks to all on this forum who helped me in determining the original pieces in various sets.

The main reason I am sharing this is to encourage other hobbyists who want these and other older sets to build and enjoy with their kids but do not want to pay extreme market prices to keep looking. I am sure there are other Lego fans that would rather have their Lego find a good home than make a ton of profit. I am now off to looking for CC and MS at a reasonable price although I never thought I would, knowing the market and availability. And if I can’t find them at a reasonable price close to original retail ever, that’s fine. I can live without them.

Also, if someone is looking for used current modulars PC, PR and PS in northern Virginia, they may be available for an average price of $125 each. An unverified used Town Hall with original instructions may still be available around $200 around New Brunswick, NJ. Let me know if you need more details.

Well, yes. But the majority just want to make money.

Filtering by "Recently Listed" helps, since the listings won't have been seen by as many people. That is how I found the above lot. Also, the listing did not tell how many lbs there were, although just by the pictures I could tell it was a good deal- I ended up getting lucky with quite a bit of stuff.

Managed to get #41180 Ragana's Magic Shadow Castle for $49.99 for my fiance.

Also got #75163 Krennic's Imperial Shuttle Microfighter and #75162 Y-Wing Microfighter for $5 each, with #75161 TIE Striker Microfighter and #75160 U-Wing Microfighter for $7 each.

Maybe not great deals, but considering the last few years around here they're petty good.

Not even really a brag considering how much I spent but I'm really psyched! For just under $200 spent on bricklink and a local bricks store I rebuilt 6 sets I had as a kid after I found my old box of legos at my parents. Sea Serpent, Majisto's Tower, all 3 Wolfpack sets, and... Imperial Trading Post!

Picked up 2x of the Maersk #10219, a #7939 Cargo Train and a #3677 Red Cargo Train for a screamin' deal.

I suppose I really need to build that train yard.  (Add it to the list of future projects.)

I'm also exercising every bit of restraint to keep it to myself, as my lovely bride didn't notice the sudden crowding of freight engines on the Lego table.  (I'll be ratted-out by my son soon enough!)

^ I try to be honest and confess to purchases, even the small bricklink orders before they drop through the letter box.
But if I forget to mention it and it makes it to the pile that still needs sorting or building, well perhaps it best to let the sleeping dog lie.

Today's find: #6765 Gold City Junction - $15 with box (minus the plastic tray) and instructions, though it was missing three pieces (a grey 1x1 plate, a black 1x4 plate, and a shovel). It also came with enough parts to build a second cannon, as well as a 2x2 crossed cutlass flag and a white pole.

When I was almost done building the wagon, I didn't realize there was a replacement instruction sheet to fix two errors, so I had to rebuild part of the wagon. Then I realized I was missing the two plates, so I had to go digging in my extra parts bag for replacements. I finished building it, but now the back of the wagon won't pop off.

Note to self: don't build while tired.
