Pic is now in the Brickset db. So Tiger, Panther and Jaguar? Nice. Just need a lion now.
First, LEGO Shop, now Smyths Toys, why are companies replacing tried and tested websites with crappy bug ridden new ones!
looking forward to see the big cats better. so far I think I prefer the one in the jungle exploration site (leopard?) but I may pick the black one instead (panther?) cause it's cheaper.
kidding. I know he was in the 1930s or something and lego city is modern.
Likewise. I know it's a business and they always put the most wanted elements in the most expensive sets, but scattering the three big cats like that and giving us yet another crocodile (which I had bought a Swamp Police set for) on the smallish one is mean.
A "Fun at the Zoo" set modelled after #60134 and #60153 would be a dream. Or a CMF-like series just for animals, including those elusive goats.
Or the Ostrich, which only appeared in the Prince Of Persia theme, or the seagull which has only appeared in a CMF series...
Sorry for the P________ reference. I hadn't bought any since I was a kid, but did get this one as a gift to a friend who loves meerkats.
How popular were the Friends animal packs? Some of them were pretty cool (the ones without bows) and were similar to this idea. I remember buying the penguin scene. If they rolled a similar product into the City line, rather than friends, that'd be amazing.
I wonder why it has never been done? They already have many animal moulds.
I think this series is very weak, especially when you compare it to the Deep Sea series.
I am surprised there are no birds of any kind in this theme. A monkey would also have been nice. The Friends Jungle Rescue theme was much more diverse in it's menagerie! The theme is still a great improvement over last year's Volcano Explorers.
Back in 1958 TLG was thinking about using a wood fiber Masonite Town Plan board for a zoo theme... including.......
Using creatures from 2 LEGO zoo and farm animal sets they made back then....
The final product never made it to market in 1958, but the model sets exist in the Billund LEGO Archives/Collections.
Today this would likely be a hit with collectors, but with more realistic animals....
Images from my Unofficial LEGO/Sets Parts Collectors Guide... Chapter 17 - LEGO Sets/Parts never put into production.
Here are the test strikes for the Zoo and Barnyard set animals....
We already have the molds for Vines and Ferns from the Friends line. All TLG needed to do was print them in new colours? Sand Green, Olive and Mid-Green?
Throw in a few coconut prints from the Moana sets and a couple of Palm Trees.
I am guessing the designers got carried away by the new Giant Venus fly trap.....
Brown Vehicles would have been a nice alternative to the Green ones just phased out with the end of the Volcano sub-theme. But I guess the kids preferred the Dark Yellow.
I guess the minifigs are not planning on hiding?
The Half Track Mission did not really need the buggy and could have had more vegetation.
And did we really need another badly designed Cargo Helicopter set?
Even with these small niggles I predict this theme will do quite well with all markets.
Unfortunately the tiger isn't available. :-(
Very happy.
Personally I'm not a huge fan of the man-eating plants in the city theme considering my preference for the brick-built ones in Elves, but I know better than to assume laziness on the part of the designers when there are plenty of more plausible reasons for the designs.
:-D
I suspect everyone is fearing they'll be like the goats and only appear in one set each!
The thing I found interesting when placing the order is that it was obvious that the person I was talking to didn't get the pictorial inventory as they could see the name of the piece and colour but in the case of the tiger didn't know what animal it was (the name on their system is PROTECTIVE BAG,ANIMAL so she could tell it was an animal piece but not which one)
