That was simply the only option available from USPS (the only way I ship). No first class available at all.
Not an issue. It's the only method available. What would you rather I do? Not invoice, and do something that is actually a violation?
I'm saying I wouldn't invoice $200 as the shipping cost, because that number seems incorrect. If you send an invoice with that amount before doing complete and thorough homework you're liable to get a negative.
Where are you getting $200 as the cost to ship a constraction figure to Guatemala? Did you talk it through with USPS? Again, I'm not sure where you're getting the $200 tag, but if you're getting it from a relatively reliable source I would box up the constraction figure, take it to USPS, and get a shipping estimate. Either that or call them.

Don't. I read recently their postal system is shutdown/ non functional. Not sure if there are third party options but it will still likely be a big risk.
Which are you most familiar with? Start there. If you have not bought from either, do a few small test orders to get to grips with how things work on each.
for international, 1st class mail package is listed separate from 1st class mail letter/large envelope.
do you offer/require insurance? maybe the issue is that 1st class isn't available with that

I have just checked Royal Mail shipping to Guatemala from the UK
International signed is GBP 12.45
Priority 1 Day delivery is GBP 71.95
Priority 7 Day delivery is GBP 59.55
and checking the couriers:
UPS Shipping is GBP 76.63
Can't believe US shipping is that expensive - I thought ours was expensive!
First class isn't an given an as an option at all. Not sure how else to explain that.
Since 1st class mail international exists, I'm trying to figure out why you're not seeing it as an option.
It's only available up to 4 pounds. I can't imagine 1 figure weighing that much, are you mailing multiples?
Looking at the USPS website, 1st class isn't available for packages to Guatemala, only Global Express Guaranteed. Maybe that's because of issues with their postal system as mentioned elsewhere in this thread.

international postage from the US is often higher even without weird situations
For example
1st Class Mail package to Canada
$9.50 up to 8 oz (226g)
$15.50 up to 2 lb (906g)
Small Packet to US
$8.61 [$6.33 USD] up to 250g (8.82oz)
$11.29 [$8.30 USD] up to 500g (1 lb 1.64 oz)
$16.82 [$12.36 USD] up to 1kg (2 lb 3.27 oz)
Those are on my list too however I am OK with good condition used with box and instructions.

Made grand progress on part sorting last weekend.
Started using tenth cent increments up to 2c instead of 1c; I'm still using half cents up to 20.

WalMart snack size bags are now squarish, 5.1x4.7 instead of 6.5x3.25. I might try some. I often use the old size for parts/quantities too large to fit (comfortably) in a 3x5, and this would still work. I'll look for a deal on the old size. WM also has 2x3's 100 for $1 [I thought $2 for some reason], making Ecobox *slightly* cheaper. Online is much cheaper on 3x5, brick and mortar for larger sizes.

Foreign buyer wanted to cancel because shipping was higher than expected even though it was the lowest amount stated on my terms page for that country. I told the buyer so but decided to cancel anyway. I figure trying to force an unwanted order could lead to problems and I don't want the inventory tied up during the NPB process.
Maybe people don't read, or assume it will be like postage from another country to the US.

Was your store getting too time-consuming or was the rest of your life getting busier? Running my store feels more involved now so I'm more selective about adding inventory. I'm just as busy at my regular job, and I've got a raise coming up.
I wonder what kind of deal I'd take for all my inventory. It seems like such a big sale would be a logistical challenge; how did that go for you?

Yes, orders with many lots and low value are a pain, but I'm afraid that policies intended to avoid those might cost me orders that aren't a problem to handle.
I try to stock large quantities, but that doesn't prevent buyers from ordering small amounts of what I do have.
About parting out minidolls/minifigures, I've been thinking I should probably start doing it, as a lot of minifigs (mainly City, Friends, and Elves) have just been sitting there forever, not selling.
Do you find it worthwhile to do it, considering all the added storage needed?
I've thought about selling parts but thought people would want all the pieces of a character. Maybe I'll part out common figures. I'm not sure what ratio makes it worthwhile.

I have 84000+ bricks, listed for an equivalent 8350 british pounds.
I was thinking of offering the whole lot, with shipping included (from Croatia) for 3600 british pounds.
First I'd go through the whole inventory so the list would be 100% accurate (I have more bricks to add to BL). What do you guys think? how to aproach something like this?
Had an order which was large enough it took me a couple days to get to. Couldn't do it before leaving for my regular job like I often do with smaller orders, busy/tired after work. Had trouble finding several lots; needed to work on sorting but still frustrating.
Had some more manageable orders; my favorite was the one that was just 10 CMF's. :)
City minifigs generally part out and sell well, most of mine get parted out. I haven't bothered parting out Friends, licensed or themes like Chima etc. as they have too many custom parts which not many people are after.
I recently set all my Friends and Chima figs at 50% discount (I sell at 6 month average sale price) Sold most of them within a couple of weeks, most of the chima figs going to a single reseller.
It depends, most people who try to sell a whole store have already sold all the good stock as they have already started the progressive discounting 10% to 20% to 30% to 40% etc.
If this is the case most of what you have left will be the harder to sell items and so anybody looking to buy will want them pretty cheap. I've heard of other store owners picking up the dregs for 10% - 20% of the original value (80% -90% off). It really does depend on what you have left.
Makes sense that City minifig parts would sell well - there aren't specific characters that people would want whole, which is why I don't usually part out figs. Specialized items moving slowly is a problem, but I hadn't thought of it for fig parts. I buy Friends parts to mix and match for a crowd, and others might do similar with traditional minifigs.
I was wondering about the specifics of selling off remaining parts. I figured having less popular stuff left would be a problem.

Lately I've had a few small orders but per Murphys Law I had trouble actually locating some of the pieces.
Also, I've gotten a few orders from buyers with -1 feedback, but the negative was awhile ago and they pay quickly with no other trouble this time.
Added a Rocket Boy, Vacation Batman and some parts from 2 Elf Girl. Price cuts on all those and some other minifig parts & accessories.
