Or sell them for $3.99 and subsidize the costs for Ideas, the GBHQ, and a myriad of other sets that don't sell as well...

    I doubt GBHQ is subsidized...

There is nothing altruistic about the continuing price rises on CMFs, it is simply TLG figuring they can push the prices higher. Why the more recent CMFs haven't seen the aftermarket jump that the older CMFs have, is because of a few reasons; Demand plays a factor, most of us have managed to get all the S13 Fencers, S14 Skeleton Guys or S15 Astronauts we were wanting, but many of of us weren't collecting back around S2 or S3, heck a number of us were still in our dark ages. Time is another factor, S3 came out in 2011, while S13 came out in 2015, so S13 CMFs haven't had as much time in the aftermarket. Also, how many resellers were around in 2011 grabbing a dozen S4 Musketeers as opposed to 2015 grabbing twenty or thirty S14 Specters...

The only series that was ever difficult to find was series one. I only ever saw it at Toys R Us. By series 2, they were at Meijer, target, Wal-Mart, toys r us and kmart, and that was just in my part of KY. The higher price is simply because we are foolish enough to pay it. LEGO is adept at finding ways to take my money =)

The figures should be $2.99 max. LEGO would still make a killing off of them.

Yep.  At $3 each I am more open to getting multiples.  At $4 each, there needs to be something amazing in that packet otherwise no way.  Even more so now that BAM bar is constantly being refreshed with new CMF parts.

Found one retro space guy out of two boxes that had been rummaged through.  I'll say he looks a lot better in person than the reviews show.  My kids think he looks fat due to the round belly.  But aren't all minifigs fat?  The sand green suit and orange/yellow cape and helmet look great though:  IMG_2631thumbjpg1a593d424994d871b4f125f716543979jpg

Indeed. I wasn't very excited about this one. The review pictures made him look very cheap, but once I saw him in person, that changed very quickly.

The word from others up your way is no goer in supermarkets but strachans have plenty. Suprisingly very few sold in tescos cumbernauld. I managed to get a hot dog seller for my possible new display and female elf for the wife. Still hunting a baker

To be fair all the little blind bag toys are overpriced.  The worst are the Minecraft figurines at $3.50 and they're about half the size of a minifig with no accessories and no articulation.  Then there are Pokemon cards.... talk about a ripoff.  My son spent $20 of his hard earned money on just four cards one time.  I wasn't present at the time or I would not have allowed it.  At least with the minifigs you usually get a new element or two and they can be incorporated with other Lego things.

Never said or implied it was altruistic. If your customers are making a 4x larger profit on each Zombie or Spartan Warrior sold than you are within just one or two years of release, that indicates untapped sales potential. Raising the price on the primary market capitalizes on that potential. Whereas leaving substantial primary market demand unfulfilled is throwing away those potential profits.

Got a few characters from WH Smiths in Chester today. Picked up 2 Rocket boys, 3 Corn on the Cob guys, a vet and an Elf.

When I have a bit more time probably keen to also pickup a single Retro Spaceman, French man, Baker, Butterfly Girl and Hotdog Guy.

At £3 a go it's just too expensive to pickup entire series and duplicates nowadays.

Picked up another 3 today, Baker, Retro Spaceman and French man (who I actually thought was the Hotdog Guy - must have mistaken his tray with the display stand!)

Really enjoying this series - they look great and seem to be better quality than the Batman Movie figures.

Found most of a box at the Renton,WA WalMart. Picked up the Butterfly Girl and Rocket Boy. The baggette surprised me when feeling them out. Didnt realize it had a groove in the back.

Likely the easiest series to feel.

There were eight almost full boxes at the local ToysRUs yesterday. I went through all of them and got most of a set plus a few extras, but no corn guys or rocket boys whatsoever. Someone had cleaned them all out already. Very frustrating

Started on my own, sorry. Was in Sweden all week last week and had a rough month with a lot of time from home so I treated myself to some bag feeling.

I originally went out to buy some small sets for my boys but the store had an almost full box of s17 CMF's. Prices in Sweden are even more ridiculous than those in Belgium by the way.

You might notice the missing butterfly girl... she girl got mixed up with another corn cob man when paying; it was the last bag I found. No problem as I sent a colleague in to pick it up first thing the next day; I remembered correctly where I put the bag back in the box.

Toys'r us by me had several boxes of series 17 plus series 16, disney and batman minifigs.  I got a complete set with three extras.  I really like the highwayman and butterfly girl.  Rocketboy is rather adorable as well.

Two boxes in the Chillicothe, Ohio Walmart, one full the other nearly full. I collect space, fantasy, historical and whatever I find cute in CMF. Easily found Retro Spaceman, War Dwarf, Elf Girl, Highwayman, Gladiator, Rocket Boy and Circus Strongman, and went ahead and got an extra Spaceman. Even for my clumsy fingers, this seems to be an easy series to identify, the only one I wasn't sure about was the Veterinarian.

I found 2 highway men, 80's guy, the vet and popcorn guy, and the Parisian with dog. I didn't feel just grabbed 6 of them.

Stopped at my Walmart earlier today, was thinking about picking up a big Killer Croc TLBM set.... until I spotted two full cases of minifigures!! :D Quickest feel-test EVER. Grabbed 9 bags total of the exact figures I wanted, although Retro Space Man took a bit longer than the rest.

I really enjoy this series! Rocket Boy and Hot Dog Vendor are my favorites, and I think the Bakers' whisk might end up as a gun-arm for a Dalek...

There were quite a lot of resellers doing that back in 2011. By series 4, these were already very well established and people knew there was money to be made from them. Unfortunately, the musketeer is one army builder that hasn't actually risen that much.

I would have been happy with that random selection - those two are the best of the bunch imo.

Were there any Bricksetters at the Arundel Mills Lego store today, around 11:30 or noon? There were about five of us adults helping each other get the figures we needed.

Did a a couple of feeling sessions over the weekend. Smyths netted me Baker, Corn Guy, Rocket Boy and 80s dude.

Then in Camp Hopson (a little department store in Newbury) I nabbed four more. Got Butterfly girl, Elf princess, weight lifter and hotdog seller. As I paid the lady gave me a card with stickers on and said "just one more and you get a free one!" Picked two randoms and got a second hotdog seller and....

....he is so cool. Printing looks great with the boots and cufflinks on the arms. I think I need to collect the rest now!

Found them in my local tesco just now, much to the chagrin of my missus, who had to do the shopping while was fondling.
Found all the ones I was looking for, but picked up the wrong bag at the end thinking it was the Frenchman and now have two hot dog sellers. Had two bags set aside and forgot which was which. Doh!

Walmart [in central NC] was the only one cheating around here.  Snagged about half the group on 4/29, and then got the rest today from a different store.

    Oddly, Toys R Us did not have them.  Like someone mentioned above, they had set out, a full box of Disney, TLBM, and S16, but none of the new series.  That is odd, as normally, TRU sneaks them out a week or two early.  {Here at least}

  • preusspreuss Member Posts: 101
After a week trying multiple Walmarts and combing through 10 boxes at Toys'R'Us, I've finally managed to complete the set today.
Got the corn guy and rocket boy at an Indigo bookstore - they only had one box with about 2/3 left, including 2 corn guys. I asked if they had more boxes and the attendant managed to get a sealed one from the back.

My dealer* came through. 1 complete set, pre felt out, and a buy 5 get 6th free deal.

Was very civilised. Rang a few weeks before to let them know I would like a set. Rang me back once they had stock and my order was assembled. So much better than standing in the supermarket late at night trying to feel them, getting unwanted duplicates, not finding the ones you want, and getting odd looks.

    * dealer is a local toy shop in Wycombe.

Went to the Walmart where I got them first last week...finally got a Veterinarian and two Corn Guys, an extra French Guy, and one Highway Guy (yeah, had to do it :p)...I'm still looking for an extra (or a few, we do need more doctors in our towns) Veterinarian and Food Vendor.

Found in Belgium. Passed by the Wijnegem Lego store (Belgium) to buy something Star Wars-y . Guess what, they had series 17 minifigs. According to the staff the series not being available in the Benelux is just a rumour, albeit a very stubborn one.

All the rarer ones were gone already but they expect fresh boxes to be on display over the coming weeks.
