Got #9516 Jabba's Palace and #75005 Rancor Pit used from Craigslist for $150 total. (Sets were $180 total when released in 2012/2013, so I was especially stoked to get these two. They were on my "dang, I missed those and there's no way I'm paying third party scalp prices now" list.)

That tower does not look happy...

@Switchfoot55 That is the worst feeling! Luckily I had bought a #75055 Star Destroyer from her a few weeks ago, and she told me that if she was selling anything else, she'd let me know before posting online. I've missed so many good deals, I was glad to score on these!

@SprinkleOtter Oh, those 3 Technic pins are holding it up just fine.....(don't worry, I took it down right after I shot the photo, I thought it looked precarious as well!)

Have just pulled the trigger on Assembly square and parisian restaurant to complete our modular collection (minus the 2 we don't like). Triple points was just too enticing.

Now hoping they arrive before the end of the school holidays so we can have a 'build fest' next week as I'm off with the kids for 2 days.

someone quickly figured how this forum works. 2 posts, twice off-topic.

also got the iconic chess set to take (a bit) advantage of promos at S@H. 50€ for 1600 pieces isn't the worst deal.

Just picked up a few retired 2015 Elves sets:
    • #30259 "Azari's Magic Fire" from eBay
    • #41075 "The Elves' Treetop Hideway" from Toys R Us (no discount)
    • #41078 "Skyra's Mysterious Sky Castle" from Toys R Us (9% discount)
The new Goblins sets out this year have peeked my interest in the Elves theme. I initially thought the colours and bling were excessive but they have grown on me! Especially when I'm drinking a glass of wine!! :)

It is curious considering that more people probably have no idea who One-Eyed Willy is in the first place.

^ You forgot the Rube G Gate!  I'd think most kids of the eighties know who One eyed Willie is, though my own kids were horrified by the name (and the liberal use of the word shit).  I vividly recall my daughter leaning across and whispering in my ear "Dad, was that a dick joke?" My response? "Considering that Data's real name is supposed to be Richard Wang.....probably!"

Last Friday, I went to my local Lego store and purchased 10252 VW Beetle so I could snatch up the miniature version :)
  • JudgeChuckJudgeChuck Member Posts: 1,591
I popped into the Stratford store this afternoon, to pick up #21029 Buckingham Palace and #21131 The Ice Spikes and to take advantage of 3x VIP again and was lucky enough to pick up a second #40252 Mini Volkswagen Beetle, as they still had a few left over.
If you're quick, you might be lucky as well.

Not sure yet what I bought at the thrift store Wednesday, but it filled two 66 quart Sterilite tubs. Started putting together #269 Kitchen last night, also see a good bit of #7019, #79111, #3818, #9446 #75112, and some Chima stuff.

I completed CMF Series 16 a couple of days ago, I already had 7 of the figures but I saw a large display of them at Smyths so I thought I'd buy the remaining 9. Absolutely wonderful series, not a single figure I dislike!
  • mmozzanommozzano Member Posts: 417
Yay, series 17 has arrived in WH Smiths.

At £3 a go my days of completing every series are over so I just purchase the ones I like (and a few duplicates of the ones I really like)

@floridabrick I'm a bit embrassed but The Collector above is a poor quality clone :(
I'm not willing (at present) to pay the going price for a real version and haven't managed to find a decent Lego based clone.

#75158 Rebel Combat Frigate from Toys r us for £89.99 saved £20 + a £10 gift coupon. that i will get at a later date.
could have got this set from lego for "may the 4th" offer (10%) off. but getting it from TRU gives me more saving. about £15 more in all.

also got #75119 for £6.99 from amazon,

just need to work out what to get for the R2-D2 freebie next week.

Lately I've been picking up sets on clearance at 50% off at Barnes & Noble. Mincraft sets bought for the parts, mostly.

Dumb question: if they are sealed, how do you know you got them all, as opposed to a bunch of duplicates?
  • CircleKCircleK Member Posts: 1,055
While I'm sure @Dad's transaction is perfectly fine, I did purchase a sealed S1 Zombie from eBay shortly after my dark ages and received a sealed Cowboy instead. I was already pretty good at feeling out the figures by that time, having successfully put together a S7 and S8 complete set + extras. So when I got the pack in the mail I just started trying to locate the small parts for whatever reason, rather than opening it.  I immediately identified the pistols and knew I didn't receive what I had ordered. I don't think I knew at that time that the S1 figures could be identified by codes on the pack.

I messaged the seller and explained that they sent me the wrong item and that I could tell just by feeling the pack. I felt bad about the whole thing b/c I could tell the seller thought I was ripping him off and was pulling a switch-a-roo, but that absolutely wasn't the case at all - they screwed up. The person ultimately refunded my money and sent the cowboy back (still sealed).

So... Shit happens when buying sealed CMF.  Always a chance of a mistake.

  • Farmer_JohnFarmer_John Member Posts: 2,405
^I've had that happen too, albeit with a less expensive CMF. I was purchasing a complete set of all 16 CMFs in sealed condition and I could tell two were the same. Since I'm also pretty good at identifying CMFs through the packaging, I notified the seller immediately and they sent me the missing CMF a few days later. I offered to send the misidentified CMF back, but they told me just to keep it. They seemed a bit miffed and initially implied I had pulled a fast one, so I tried to reassure them I wasn't the type to do that (for whatever good that did). I probably made it onto their "never sell to again" list, but it was their mistake...not mine. I can live with it...

Nothing.  Nothing is peeking my interest.  Perhaps it is time to pay bricklink a visit for some classics.
  • SeanTheCollectorSeanTheCollector Member Posts: 765
^ I've also had this problem. I bought a complete sealed Simpsons series 1 set but found a duplicate Milhouse #71005-9 instead of a Ralph Wiggum #71005-10. I looked at the two minifigs and couldn't work out how I would tell the difference by feel! So I let the seller off and bought another sealed Ralph Wiggum which thankfully turned out to be a Ralph Wiggum! I probably would have contacted seller if the cost of a replacement turned out to be excessive.

  • MAGNINOMINISUMBRAMAGNINOMINISUMBRA Member Posts: 993
^ As someone who has sold a LOT of complete sealed sets I can tell you that Milhouse/Wiggum is the second hardest combination in ANY series to tell by feel (the trick is in the heads - Ralph's is considerably rounder).  The hardest (in ANY series)  to feel is the S2 Homer/ Dr Hibbert as their heads are essentially the same shape - the trick is feeling the round textured hair on the back of Hibberts head.  EVERY SINGLE TIME I sell a S2 Simpsons series I sweat until I receive positive confirmation from the buyer! As far as @CircleK 's Zomnie dilemma - I couldn't feel bad about that as a buyer - if anything it sounds VERY suss on the sellers behalf - mixing up the most and least valuable figures when it's impossible to 'misfeel' those two different figures and they had a barcode to boot!

I've had this problem with simpsons series 2 . Received 2 smithers instead of one of marges sisters  (pink dress). Seller said they had posted 3 complete sets got no other complaints so told me to deal with it as they had no spares.

For figures like Homer / Hibbert or Milhouse / Wiggum, just use the dot codes on the packages. If they came out of the same lot, you can tell pretty much instantly if the two packs are different. Different dot code = two different figures. Easy enough. That is the only time I use the dot codes anymore is to differentiate between two similar packs in the same case. It has NEVER failed me and I have sorted in excess of 1200 figures at this point.

Well, today was awful and I thought a City set would be a good balm, so I bought the Airport Cargo Plane - £4 off at Argos, not bad at all for an impulse buy when I was prepared to relax my usual rules about waiting for deep discounts. Was tempted by the Volcano Crawler (£10 off!) but I'm a bit obsessed with planes and flying at the moment. Other half is very skeptical about the moulded cockpit but I kind of like it...

Just picked up Nether Fortress for 50% off at Barnes and Noble, as well as the SW U-Wing and Batmobile polys.

Also, picked up Batwing polys at Target though I swung and missed looking for the cheap Easter polys.

Went in to John Lewis (yay for staff discount!) for a #21035 Guggenheim Museum, picked that up and somehow came out with a #21030 Capitol Building, 2 #42058 Technic Stunt Bikes and 2 #42059 Technic Stunt Trucks too!

    These things happen.

Went to my usual trek to find sales at Walmart and Target, and I didn't really find anything worth it. Like many have said, Target does have Angry Birds on clearance, so if you are into them you might wanna check the stores close to you.

In a Walmart I did find a #31036 Toy & Grocery Shop for $30...I know it's not a great price and the box was banged up a bit, but it has good pieces I think are worth like doors and windows. At another Walmart I found #30521 Mini Batmobile and #30496 U-Wing. A bit odd since they had a display and all, and I had never seen a display like that at any Walmart before.

Really wanted the R2 freebie but April and May are shite months for me so as the Star Wars sets are 10% off, I put £50 of my VIP points to good use and picked up #75168, #75175  and a Hoth Leia Keychain (to get over the £60 spend) for the polybag.
Lego itch scratched, minimum expenditure. Happy!  :)

    on order from lego.com
    #75060 Slave I with 10% off. (£161.99)
    #30611 R2-D2 (Free.)

i had to have that R2 D2, so had to use up my VIP points,
the only set that lego.com had that i still wish to have, that i don't already have a double of in some forum or other is Slave I. (I own the 2011 Millennium Falcon, i own Poe's x-wing, I own a smaller TIE fighter so the big one is not a need to own, the deathstar is out of my price range, and other set's I can get for less from other shops.)
so i only ended up paying £111.99 for Slave I.

  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Member Posts: 2,355
3 #41115 $5.99 and 4 #41105 $21.99 at Marshalls. okay deal since I want the minidoll parts. I thought 41105 was a better deal but the part out value I had was out of date, since lowered prices on a lot of the parts.

@TheFew @VorpalRyu re MB star trek:
yeah, MB has some molds that LEGO doesn't (part of the fun is the change of pace). and licensed stuff in particular has unique figures and prints. So I quickly ruled out getting the instructions and building in LEGO.
I haven't had time or space for the Enterprise model yet but I've done some of the smaller sets. Been meaning to post comments, but don't wanna type them up right now and will put in a different thread when I do.

@mmozzano buying only the figures I like has been my policy since I got into CMFs. I spend more than enoguh on them and LEGO in general as is without playing gotta catch em all.

re misidentified CMFs - I sell singles rather than sets. Thus I don't need to find all of a series. The only ones I sell sealed are particularly easy to identify.
