$4 is my limit on CMF's.  If they pop over that, I'm done.  I'll focus on other stuff entirely.  Unless of course the quality goes up immensely, e.g. No more Chinese crap with loose fittings, wobbly legs, and a less dense plastic feeling.
Same here. 4 USD is my limit too. I'm guessing many more will feel the same way than those who will pony up and buy them still. They are neat, but I have a hard time buying what is (IMO) a 3 dollar figure for 5 dollars, or even 4.50. Especially since many of these special parts appear in later sets or in the BaM bars at LEGO stores later on.

even at $3.99, the target redcard discount (5% off, $3.79) helps get me to buy a few more figures

^^^ Fair enough, it just reminded me of warhammer in white dwarf and thought you might have meant the same. I guess both of us liking Lego, Red Dwarf and Liverpool is enough similarities already :-) As for this series, I really like it all round.
My brother had a few of the White Dwarf mags when we were younger but that's a hobby that's too expensive for me, plus I'm terrible at painting. A Liverpool CMF series would be the first time I collect them all!

Red Dwarf is a BBC TV series, White Dward is the Hobby Magazine for Warhammer

Who is the guy with the white suit and 80's phone? Did Lego actually just make a cocaine dealing cartel member as a CMF? Ya know they're scraping the bottom of the barrel when they start making druglords. x'D

    Crockett?

    Or Tony?

What a great episode of Vice that would've been.

I had completely forgotten about that. After opening #60134, I realized how well those minifigures feel compared to most CMFs.

The only decline in quality for CMFs I've noticed is that lately, many of the more recent series seem to have clutch power issues with the stands. The legs will start to pop up slightly on some of mine after a while.

I would hope that they don't start feeling like Best Lock stuff after a while, this is LEGO we're talking about, and Minifigures are still the core of most LEGO sets.

Unless you live in a tax free state or are using a tax exempt number the 5% redcard discount does not = $3.79 for a figure. If you are using a tax exempt number you have to account for that down the road.

3.99 plus CA tax is 4.34

    with red card,
    3.79 plus tax is 4.12

    22 cent savings.

Which means 19 CMFs will be needed to get 1 CMF for free in CA.

Your taxes will help/hurt your purchasing power.

For me I was more than happy to purchase full series at $2 each. I was disappointed when the price rose to $3 but I still continued collecting full series up to series 5. After this I gave up with trying to collect full series. As much as it would make me happy to continuously collect full series, I found that the cost for each series would be too much, especially when the price rose to $4.

At the point of series 5 I gave up and figured that getting only the figures that interested me would satisfy me and rather than spending money on whole series, only get the ones that please me.

What solidified this idea was when the mixels started up. I found the idea of a bag of 60 bricks for $5 much more appealing a figure of 6 pieces for $4.

I can't and don't want to imagine them going up to $5. Miss the days where you could get 7 figures for $21 instead of 5 figures for $20. Fearing the price increase to $5 getting 4 figures for $20 doesn't sound appealing to me... this including the idea that an entire series at that point is $80! Would much rather spend and extra $20 and get the Volkswagen Beetle for $100 than only getting 16 figuers (Or to make it even 20 figures with $100).

But yeah... would like to collect them all, but I find $4 for each figure is already too steep.

^^and this is why those of us in Europe paying 20% or more VAT are so pleased that our prices include it rather than it being added when we reach the checkout.

US prices are generally expressed before sales tax, so that's what I meant by $3.99->$3.79, even though it's really $4.31->$4.09 (8% in Monroe County, NY)
VAT is nationwide, so it would be feasible to quote all inclusive prices, whereas sale tax differs by state, county, sometimes even municipality. For example, the Eastview Mall LEGO store is in Ontario County NY, 7.5% instead of 8%.
I assume Crocked County Illinois is a typo for Crooked, which in turn is a sarcastic name for Cook, which includes Chicago.
I don't notice any problems with CMF quality, still well above clones.

Potential bad news for Benelux Bricksetters : Lcc builders are reporting that series won't be widely available in shops in these countries, only from Lego direct.

I wonder if it's the increase in price. here, I've only seen maxitoys sell them. (the batman ones) maybe if shops don't want to sell them the price will decrease?
and it looks like king jouet have them too, but they apparently already sold the serie 16 for 4€...

    Yeah, I know.

    But you pay to play.

Salaries are higher but they don't go as far. But opportunities are many out here.
Can't imagine what it's like having to fight for a low-paying job against a crowd of people in a small town. I pity them, really.

High end salary for one occupation in the Bay is $100k. Similar near Sacramento is $78k, at least what I was looking at. With the latter, you could buy a house (since it was cheaper) but if you wanted to do anything...ANYTHING...you had to drive, drive, drive (usually a long way and with traffic) to get any type of culture, arts, really good RR, major sports, etc. That's the tradeoff, I guess.

I have all my sets on a huge IKEA bookshelf in the basement (where we usually send kids to play when we have friends and their kids over), so basically anytime that happens I have an anxiety attack...until recently when I figured out that the bookshelf slides easily on the carpet into the guest bedroom that can be locked.

@TyresOFlaherty I used to have most of my sets squeezed onto 14 IKEA bookshelfs (tall Billys) until a recent move when I packed everything up into 50 large packing crates for storage in a 20 foot shipping container. No way would I have been able to slide that lot into the guest bedroom! :)

I've just heard series 17 won't be available on retail stores in Belgium and the Netherlands. Apparently shops aren't getting any boxes.

You'll be able to get them from [email protected] but that's it. Pretty annoying cause I only wanted to pick some up (higher price plus lower budget ATM) so wanted to go and feel for them.
  • William_TownsleyWilliam_Townsley Member Posts: 880
@snowhitie You could split a box between you and two other people. That should help you're costs

^I tried to get a box from my usual advance supplier yesterday but alas, nothing yet. And no date for arrival either. I was hoping to have a good feel up session over the Easter hols.

For anyone interested, a sealed case of series 16 now goes for a low as 99.00 on Ebay and a sealed case of TLBM now goes for as low as 180.00. Even the Disney series is down to 225.00.  Watch what you pay for the pre-order prices.

Hoping not, My wallet sure does not want to see this series appear.
  • TheBigLegoskiTheBigLegoski Member Posts: 1,437
I did not buy any TLBM minifigs! I thought about collecting them, but €4 is utterly ridiculous for one minifigure!
(Okay €3,99 actually, but you do all realize why retailers/companies hardly ever try to sell products for a 'round' price, don't you!?!)
However I also noticed there are local retailers that sell them at an even higher price point, though those do not come in their original mystery baggy, and prices vary between the minifigs depending on how sought after and/or rare the figure is.

I am sad to read here on this thread series 17 won't be widely available in The Netherlands (and Belgium), since I absolutely adore the vast majority of figures in this series, and I have collected almost all of them (the 'regular' series), except for the: UK Olympics, German Football-team, Simpsons, Disney, and TLBM series. The fact that TLG won't release series 17 in NL&B&L means we are getting screwed over here in the 'Benelux', just like we did with series 11, which was not available either in The Netherlands.

Next to that, this series will also be priced like the previous Batman series at €4 for one minifigure! That is just insane! Preposterous! Isn't it about time to start rubbing it in over at TLG that these items are hugely overpriced, even more so given the fact that many of the parts of these in Chinese sweatshops produced minifigures are not of the same quality as the minifigures produced in any of the European Lego factories! I would very much like to see TLG decrease instead of increase the price of these CMFs!

When I started collecting CMFs and series 3 was just released, the minifigures were priced at €1,99
Now that was a fair price! (At least IMO)
I might reluctantly decide to stop buying CMFs given how expensive they have become, and how hard it is to collect some of them (such as this new series 17).
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,793
^- I would also say to check sites like BL for a box of 60 packs as sometimes you can get them cheaper there, sometimes from another country, but generally they are cheaper.
  • datsunrobbiedatsunrobbie Member Posts: 1,818
I also have purchased none of the TLBM minifigures. Local Target had them for $3.99. Hoping there will be another 2/$5 sale through Toys R US, like when I got the series 15 figures, but otherwise I'll just wait for them to show up in used lots.
  • SumoLegoSumoLego Member Posts: 15,229
That 2/$5.00 sale was excellent.  Too bad that sale is not a regular occurance!

@snowhitie I would definitely be up for splitting a box if you'd go that route.

    That leaves
    1. Finding a 3rd person
    2. Obtaining a box
    3. Identify who would do the feeling (I'd vote for it being anybody but me, as my CMF bag-feeling skills are between horrid and non-existent)

2: Buying a box via a third party like @minifiguresplus. They generally have good prices for a box IMO. If I were buying boxes still I would get one from someone who is selling retail or under per pack, which can sometimes be found when buying a box from one of the wholesalers on eBay or BL.

I've never bought a CMF figure before, so I'm totally clueless regarding these wonderful little minifigs. There are one or two in the series 17 set that might make me finally dip my toe into the water, but before I do, I have a few questions for the experts here.

Firstly, do the minifigs come with the black 3x4 stand as seen in @dspigel 's pic?

Also, are the numbers of minifigs per box revealed at some point? I assume there are more common ones and one or two are harder to come by, right? I'm hoping the ones I want aren't too rare!

And finally, I'm obviously a CMF bag feeling virgin, so I have to ask, just how hard is it to identify the minifigs by touch alone? Is there a code on the bags that tell you which fig is inside for those in the know?

Apologies for so many questions but I think this could be yet another line of Lego that I might start taking an interest in. It's totally the fault of me finishing the Assembly Square today and seeing the female chef who is obviously crying out to be placed in the bakery, as well as the dance instructor who can rent out the ballerina's studio and the French minifig to frequent the Assembly Square cafe.

    WHAT !

Youve missed out on so many good Minifigures, lemme tell ya.
Yes they come with the black stand, and a little pamphlet with a checklist.
Its usually 3 full sets in a box with some having 4-5 to a box.
Its usually pretty easy if you set in your mind what that piece will feel like. I wasn't smart enough to feel the bags until Series 14 - saved a lot of disappointment and money, and since then I've always gotten a full set on the first try. There are some pieces that are big and obvious, for example the Rocket Boy's rocket costume should be pretty easy to feel. There are dot codes on the bottom of each bag.. but I consider those crap and I think usually some are incorrect Sidney they're hard to make out. I prefer feeling. It takes me usually 20ish minutes to feel out a whole series.

Hope you take interest in these, they're really awesome. Happy hunting!

Finally a recolour of Mjolnir I'm happy with, also liking the 30/40's Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers space trooper.

Thinking with that frenchman, combined with #8684-9 the mime & a few other parts, could create the potential for MOC of this videoclip:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRZ-jLOrFfk

Upshot, I might be able to get the last missing piece from my SDCC #41492 Captain America, as the 80's workout girl has it on the top of her drink container (guessing that's why TLG had a hold on that part).
