I found an E.T. at Walmart yesterday for $5.  Lucky coincidence I guess.

I don't even want one (although I would've but for $40 without hesitation). I was just bored and excited about 27% as it was a long running joke.

Me too. I guess I'm gonna have to buy them at retail price. That's disappointing.
I have the the ones I got from TRU and Target, but I was hoping for a few more cheapies.

27 is used a lot by Weird Al; maybe someone in charge of pricing is a fan. More likely, it looks better than 25 without taking a big hit, like x.99 prices.
#31048 Lakeside Lodge $18.99 might get that for LEGO camping collection. price is apparently not prime only, might sign up for the prime 30 day free trial anyway

27% off is an old joke in the forum because someone made the claim of being able to get 27% off at [email protected], but never provided proof as to how but did not stop them from bragging about it.

There is third party seller, rtalley50, on Amazon that has a lot sets with discounts of up to 40% or more. He has a Porsche up there for $188 with shipping around $7. He has got a lot of other sets, including exclusives such as Assembly Square, Volkswagen Beetle, and Brick Bank.

The person has only got three reviews, 2 from 2014 and 1 from 2015 that all give him five stars but I am still suspicious and unsure if this is a scam or if it is fair game.

Ordered a few and hoping for the best.

I would like to take back my previous comment as I believe that what is above may be too good to be true. Apparently amazon has been struggling with third party scammers recently and while I am unsure of whether the seller is real or not, I'm leaning on the side of caution and going back on my previous purchases.

I ordered three lego dimensions sets, gremlins, sonic and et for $6.99 each from a new amazon seller. No other LEGO that I saw listed. Order was cancelled. Not sure if it was a scam or mistake. Kind of random for a scam. I don't know how Amazon can't police that stuff better if it's a scam. I was under the impression LEGO was a gated item now for new sellers meaning you can't sell it unless you pay a large fee and can show you have an account with LEGO.

I almost fell for the same thing with #71242 for $6.99. The order was from Paul Gipson, Newly launched. Looked up the dude and well take a look for yourself:

    https://sellercentral.amazon.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=342961&tstart=0

Called amazon customer service and one of the things that they said was to stay away from New Sellers and those who appear to have been inactive for some time and are just starting up again as they are dealing with scamming problems with these new and old accounts.

Yeah, that guy's listings look mighty suspicious; especially the big sets.

^I was about to order from him but I'm glad I read this first. Nothing against new sellers (we might or were one once) but big sets at 50% is a bit distrusting.

Tried to cancel my order but now it's in transit and I am in a loop with amazon in trying to get my money back. I did however get an email back from the seller. I think this quite possibly the most professional email I have ever received.

    hello friend
sorry that we have shipped out the parcel , if you don't like , let me know , i will try best for you to stop it and refund you
    pls contact me

I don't mind unprofessional looking messages, as long as they're honest and respectful. That same seller is selling Assembly Square for less than $200.

Has anyone been able to verify if they truly are Lego pieces and not some knockoff or damaged/heavily used Lego?

Well I have not received my package to see if they are real or fake... but I don't think I ever will end up receiving my package.

I ordered a package on Mar 18th, Elsa's Magical Ice Palace for a total of $18, and its supposed to be here by the 23th - 28th. However amazon says that the item is in transit, halfway here but when looking closer, the only tracking update is "Package has left seller facility and is in transit to carrier." I have the tracking # but UPS has no record of the tracking # ever existing or being used. This all leads me to believe that the item is not currently being shipped. I believe the same technique is being used with my shipment from rtalley50.

The feedback of the seller seemed good but looking back at it now, the same tactics were used, all of the reviews were from a few years back and it did not seem as if the user was active recently and rather taken over by someone else.

Good luck Mynatt.  I almost pulled the trigger the other day on a few sets but "too good to be true" sensor went off...

Boy sales have quieted down a lot in the past few weeks. Most of what has been on sale is only around 20% off. About 5 years ago that would be a big deal, but with the (IMO) inflated LEGO retail prices, 20% is probably around where most sets should be as a regular price

^I think the biggest perpetual discount of a notable investing potential set is the Civil War Airport Battle #76051. Consistently at $59 off an $80 retail price. 5 Years that would have never happened.
  • teal93mr2teal93mr2 Member Posts: 1,009
^I would actually argue that the RRP on more sets, especially of the licensed variety, has been inflated last couple of years, making sets "appear" to be on sale. Not saying there haven't been some great deals available but feels like sets that stay on sale like we've been seeing with #60134 and #76051, etc are not really sales in my book.

All licensed stuff is inflated. That's the nature of licensed. I checked back on the first Slave I, #7144, 166 pieces - 12 cents per piece. Even back in 2000, these licensed sets were inflated by comparison to the regular sets of the era. So nothing has really changed here.

I was not me either, but what $20 coupon? I might consider getting one because, well, NCC-1701 :-)

I think it was @blogzilly the one that was asking about it a while back.

Oh well... pulled the trigger anyway and paid with points.

First ever MB set... It'll be a standalone model that will not "interact" with my LEGO ;-)

^ I ended up buying all of the sets around Xmas. They were discounted around 60% each and did get the Enterprise for $99.99. Be prepared to have open a hundred bags, which are packed seemingly at random. I have the stand and frame done and have just started the saucer section. Problem is, I don't have the space to leave everything out. I'd probably get more done that way but having to pull everything out and put everything away each time really doesn't sound appealing.

I find that, even with Sales Tax, Amazon is typically well ahead of every other retailer out there.

Of course, every other retailer probably has to collect the same tax now if it has a physical presence in your state. Myself, I typically ignore the tax when making purchase decisions. It's just less stressful that way.

Ha!  yes, agreed with all this.  I think I will still find that purchasing on amazon will always be the easiest and most straightforward - even though no freebies/promos or double VIP points are included.  Items that I will typically purchase from Amazon are discounted beyond comparison to [email protected] plus, I can order today and in 2 days will have the set, versus a typical 4/5 business day window with [email protected]  Not knocking one or the other, just a simple comparison which shows even with the sales tax going into effect I might shrug my shoulders now at checkout but probably wont notice much difference otherwise.

Rant and rambling on is over.  Thanks!
