Fixing 9V train motor

I'm trying to figure out how to fix these two motors as the top pin on them has broken. I'm not sure how to proceed and was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this and had found a solution?

Maybe cut it flush, drill a small hole, and epoxy a Technic pin in its place. Only thing is be careful with the drill as I'm not sure what is under the location.

The rotating assembly is directly below the pin from what I remember. One thing you could try is grind the pin area flush and then super glue part of a Technic pin there. Or sell the motors to someone who doesn't need the pin (4561) and buy good motors.

Or you could try this if you a dead motor.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59UYgL4GRCI

Personally I'd sand the pin flush to the top and use them for models which don't need the pin.

If you do think about replacing the pin, dismantling them to do it would be better ad the motor is in the middle.

Reviving this old thread to see if anyone has tips on cleaning a 9V train motor to where it runs well again. I pulled out my old 9V stuff to sell and want to make sure its in good condition first. The Speed Regulator is delivering power to the rails but the motor response is spotty at best. Any thoughts on what could be wrong and how to get the motor running smoothly again?

Most likely just a lack of use. Put the motor on the rails and turn on the voltage to high. Just push the motor around the tracks, it takes a bit but if you keep doing that it will self clean and should work fine after 5 or 10 times around the tracks.
