Participating locations for the Walmart TLBM event tomorrow,I'm guessing the free gift will be a lame cardboard Batman mask similar to what was given out at the Lego stores but we can still hope it's a polybag

For anyone whose going, can you please snap a pic of the "free gift" quick please? I really don't want to go out the house with crutches, but if it's something cool, I'm willing to. :)

My 4 year old and I are heading out in two hours. I expect this to be a well oiled Walmart operation, so this could be anything from a coloring book, to a polybag, to getting to dress up as Batman and run the loss prevention department for an hour.

I'll post a pic if no one has posted anything.

There is a sign up at our walmart but no one knows anything about the batman giveaway. Anyone else having this problem? The managers say the lego vendor said nothing despite the obvious posters.

Managers do not know whats going on? Not surprised. I would say call to other local Walmarts, if you have them, and see if they are doing anything today.

I stopped by my closest Walmart right before the 11:30 start time. It didn't look like much, the employees weren't any help but I asked a lady wearing a Lego shirt about the poly bags and she handed me 3! Made it worth walking into a Walmart on a weekend for sure.

Anyone get the comic or crayons or any of the other swag?  I didn't see any...already looked for the comic on eBay to no avail...
  • MrJ_NYMrJ_NY Member Posts: 592
Nothing but polybags at my location
  • LegogramLegogram Member Posts: 321
We didn't have polys at either of my 2 local walmart stores.  The one store did have a table with the comic, 4 valentine's and the crayons.
It seemed like the polys were only in Walmart stores in and around cities.  Guess the rural customers don't rate a poly, unless they can drive several hours to a store. :-(
Oh well, I guess I will go read my comic now.

Walmart's FB link listed specific stores.

So if you visited one of them that wasn't on that list, then that would explain why you didn't get or see one.

The store listing was rather odd. I assume it was opt-in by each store, because the one store the promo took place at in the Columbus area was almost out in a rural area. Not a high traffic, high income area at all.

Plus, I think the promo people were contractors, since ours was asking a store employee where she could set up and if they had a folding table (still didn't have one an hour into the promo window)

Yes - typically there are third-party event vendors that handle large-scale make-and-take events.
  • sonsofscevasonsofsceva Member Posts: 542
To follow up, the promo people are indeed a third party. The asst. manager at Wal-Mart actually took the time to call their LEGO rep and found out that the third party co. cancelled their store literally the night before. He was apologetic and gave us a number to call to find out which stores actually had the promo going on. He then gave the employees in toys copies of the number and told them what to say to anyone else who showed up. Way to go, useful manager Derek!

We had another one in the city that we found the polys at, so a good ending for my boys too!

Interesting. I thought it'd be one of the duties these retailer jobs performs for Lego.

Decent stock of stuff yesterday at a nearby Walmart. The find of the night was several bins full of #30523 Joker Battle Training. There had to have been at least 100 bags. I picked up one...seriously considering going back and grabbing a bunch more.

Walmart and Amazon are both selling the Caterham 7 for $67.99.  Interesting that Walmart shows the original price at $89.99.

The problem is much of the theft happens outside of the store.
How so? Return with the wrong stuff in the box?

I sometimes mention store location (the WalMart near me is on Hudson Avenue) but hadn't thought of using store number.

Whether to take current price or wait for (further) discounts is a challenge of LEGO shopping. I wanted a few of this year's sets and was willing to wait until they went on clearance, but ended up getting them at full price to get S@H promos.

Haven't been to WM lately, going for something else, so of course I'm going to check for LEGO.

Yes! That's how it happens. I actually stood behind a guy at the customer service counter returning 3 Star Wars sets. After he left and it was my turn, I asked to look at them and each box had 1 bag from the Lego Minecraft Tree House set. Some people are dirtbags!

IMO 'wrong stuff' implies the buyer made an error. These scumbag thieves know exactly what they are doing.

I can see your point about choice of words, add a 'deliberately' in there?

Lots of rollbacks at store 03280 but nothing spectacular. 1 batman cmf that I'm confident is King Tut. 1 rogue and no babysitter in 7 s16 bags. Some new sets are 50c to a couple bucks off rather than a few cents like they often do.

^^ I remember a couple of years ago when someone returned a Forest Animal set distinctly full of Lincoln Logs...and they put it back on the floor to sell.

I've taken boxes with broken seals or other such damage to the service desk only to often see them put back out.

This is why I made a big stink about the 'seals' in the Packaging survey that is out there for LEGO, they really need to address this. I would feel far better buying a set in a brick and mortar store if I had the confidence in knowing no one is screwing with the contents in the boxes.

Experts like us can recognize hack job seal tampering (some of the box cardboard pulled away, for Pete's sake); my intent was to protect casual buyers. I suppose I could miss a higher quality job. I feel similar about counterfeit currency, but governments put more effort into making that difficult.

There are hack jobs and expert ones. I always check the seals, but still got burned by two LEGO passenger train boxes (seals looked perfect). The only reason why I knew they were tampered with is that they were not the same weight. Opened them both and found Clone tank parts. Since then I rarely buy LEGO sets in a store, and if I do I weight them against another sealed box of the same set (if I have it).
Like others have said, If LEGO would simply use the same type of seals they put on electronics that  is super sticky and when you try to pull it up it separates, I think you would stop most of this kind of theft.

Yeah, I just received a brand new set via online order yesterday that came with seals basically off the box already.

Set was all there, but its sad to have to check a brand new set because of poor seals.

@madforLEGO Bricklink set weights seem to include packaging, so there's that to check against at least if you don't have your own copy

Yoda they're still $7.97 at my store, and gray at $14.54, I really wish I could get those on sale

For CMF, just 2 TLBM and a S16 bag lying around

Lots of rollbacks mainly on Star Wars nothing spectacular

    On clearance shelves
#75151 $69 box beat up but looks intact
#70327 $19 box cut open (stockboy went too deep with box cutter on case?) looks complete will get for general value and king minifig. Will put with S15 Queen I already have rather than get Nexo queen

Why couldn't I get the opportunity to ignore loose tape for a 91 2/3% discount? I thought getting those half off on Thanksgiving was hitting the jackpot. "Lord, give me the chance to prove winning the lottery won't spoil me."
Since that doesn't have any minifigs, let alone licensed characters, it seems like less of a theft target.

None of the stores have said yes or offered any discounts. I know it's annoying for us on the look for a good sale (and who do not mind open boxes), but still.

  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Member Posts: 2,354
Probably so hierarchical the grunts don't have the authority for discounts, and WalMart is already cheap so have less room to come down.
No new deals when I went there last night.
