Dull lime pieces

KingAlanIKingAlanI Member Posts: 2,342
So I got 6 #70593 The Green NRG Dragon on sale at target.com last fall. It includes 4 lime 1x1 plate with clip light (part 4081b). Of the 24 I got, only 5 look Lime. The other 19 are slightly duller shades, though not resembling any other LEGO color I know of. I haven't seen this on other lime parts, including the others in this set (all small plates). Or maybe it's less noticeable elsewhere.

Anyone else have any idea what's going on here?

Pictures would really help to determine the situation. Usually there are just color variations in production, mattering on what batch of plastic they are using, it's very common with reddish brown and light bluish grey along with bright colors like reds and yellows and greens.

Dark red used to have a big problem pre-2010 where most pieces would almost be translucent and being much lighter than dark red parts seen in sets today. A similar situation can be seen with pearl light grey/flat silver, another 2010 transition. The silver became much deeper and not so translucent.

In a review by @CapnRex101 he said similar annoyance with the Mr Freeze Attack. I have noticed a similar problem especially with the light blue, brown and dark red color. Really wish they would become more consistent.

A few other lime pieces I have are a bit duller, but they're not plates or bricks, so I thought it might've been an effect of an odd mold and had forgotten about it.

Needs more chromium.  Or give it an extra bake in the oven at 350°F for 20 minutes.  Unless you live at an elevation greater than 2,000 feet above sea level.  Then bake it for 25 minutes.

Use a glass pan in lieu of metal, easier cleanup

Didn't those insider pictures of Lego warehouses show large bins of parts in storage? That means they produce the same parts at different times and even different locations hence likely will have some slight colour variations.

For me, it's the Tydirium Imperial Shuttle which had white bricks in different shades of yellow within the same set :(

Yeah I noticed that with my #10252 VW Beetle set, not all the azure blue pieces match. One of those things that annoys me but I don't know if they'd replace any of those pieces if I contacted customer service (or if those new pieces would even match either!)

I do try not to pay too much attention to the colour variation in bricks, but I was struck by the difference in the Sand Green 1xX bricks in my Assembly Square, similar to your picture above @Mynatt... It's extremely noticeable. In fact, it was even more noticeable than in your picture... :-(

Contact them anyway. Best case scenario they replace them, and otherwise at least they'll be more aware of how much of an issue it is for consumers.

Had a similar issue while building the Ewok village; color variation for the same part. Worst part is they go side by side in the build.

    Lego did replace them though.

I put mine in the same BL lot with comments about the shading (I often list used pieces in different conditions separately)
I wouldn't bother TLG over a few cents of inventory but have for a key part in something I'm building
