@catwrangler and @blogzilly, I've had some more conversation with the guy. It seems he is extremely reluctant to sell, so I'll attribute his high price to that.

He did weigh it out to 40lbs and adjusted his price to $360 and said he's willing to work on the price. So we'll see. He also confirmed that the bulk of the large ship is not there, but he thinks the Armada Flagship is 100% accounted for.

I'll see if I can't arrange a time to come dig through the bin a bit before making any decision. I'd jump on it for $200 probably just to increase some stock of parts. Though I'm doubtful he'd come down that much.

I wasn't really sure where to post this (or if this type of post is okay?), but as it pertains to buying, I ended up here.

I've stumbled upon this pile of Lego for sale. It is apparently someone's childhood collection and they're very hesitant to sell it. But I think I see some good bits in there worth going for. I know I see the front of the Armada Flagship (top middle of pile). I also see some pieces from at least one old Pirate ship (unsure which - left side). But I'm a bit lost on everything else. Anything catch anyone else's eye?

He estimates this is 45-50lbs of bricks and wants $450 for it. I think that's a bit much, but depending on the opinions, I might take a gamble. He's trying to nail down how complete the ships are as this was only 70% of his childhood collection...his parents tossed the other 30%.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Run like hell. You're not going to be completing any sets from that, if 30% is gone. And I don't see any minifigures.

If you can get the price down considerably, you may be able to sell then for $10 a pound on Ebay, but otherwise.... eck.

My local supermarket was putting the new 2017 sets out when I went shopping there this evening, including these ones:

After a shitty week due to illness, feeling much better now with these in hand :)

With my luck I'll of course have managed to get 4-8 duplicates... (the bags were not in their box) Goes find scissors to carefully open the bags...

Bought #4342 Lego Explore set just for a fun display piece.  A local bargain outlet had a few of them from a toy buyout.  It certainly looks like it should be older than 2002...lol

Wegmans clearance prices went down further today, including CMF S16 for $2.42. I had enough on me for 10 - 4 Rogue, 4 Penguin, 2 Babysitter. For that price I'm inclined to get more.

I got 3 10723 for $6 earlier. 60113 for $5.42 was one of the deals I saw today. CITY generally isn't a good deal for parts, but that kind of discount is great if you want a set yourself. I made note of all the sets and prices I saw, so I can look up values and know what to get when I go back.

Just ordered #75154 TIE Striker @ 23% off on Amazon. This will be my second Rogue One set; #75153 AT-ST Walker being the first one. Planning on getting all sets eventually.

Also ordered my second #5005031 2x4 Storage Brick (Black); last week I ordered a yellow one and liked how it looks. Not sure what to store on them yet; brick collection already sorted and stored by type on Akro-Mils cabinets and other bins.

Just came back from the LEGO Store for the Nexo Knights promo:

    - #70363 Battle Suit Macy (already have Battle Suit Axl)
    - #30376 Knighton Rider (the promo)
    - #40165 Wedding Favour Set (50% off; already have one, but I thought it would make a nice present in the future)
    - #5004930 TLBM Accessory Pack (2nd one)

The Nexo Knights sets will be build today as I need my fix for the week; still cleaning the apartment, so can't build "regular" sets.

Oh, for those in the area, they re-stocked the LEGOLAND train.

The WalMart near me still had one at $15 last I checked. :( Mediocre price especially with other deals running right now but I'd gladly bite at $10.

@DeeC2_Josh I have most of the 2016 Blocks issues. I found out that different B&N carry them in different schedules. I missed a couple of them because I never found them at my local store.

For example, the latest issue I found at my local store was #24 back in December; the issue you have is #27 :-S

I think a subscription ends up being the same price after you factor in S&H. I've been tempted to subscribe to the digital edition instead.

I just realized something. I always hold off on buying the modulars because I think "ohh they're too expensive, I can't afford them right now." But then I go and buy a bunch of parts on Bricklink and it turns out to be the same amount as I would have spent for a modular building! Anyone else do this?
  • sid3windrsid3windr Member Posts: 1,460
^ Yes, I've regularly not bought a 150€ set (yet, because no budget for it) then fire off 2 or 3 bricklink orders totaling 180€ ... I've created my own budgeting loophole by not including part orders into the "I've bought enough Lego this month" ;o

No I don't think I will be opening it, if it was a regular retail set & I could get a second copy at a normal price I would. Will probably just bricklink the bits to make the models as it does not seem to have any particularly rare or expensive parts.

#41066 from the amazon warehouse for £16.13.
    said "Packaging may be damaged"
as i am only getting it for the mini fig's (dole's?) the box this time is not a big deal to me. still it is a costly set even with the whopping 35.45% off RRP. it still works out at over 9p a part. still #41062 is getting harder to find (and i am not willing to pay more then £24 for it) and i am after the Anna from that set. the Anna in the new Ice castle is not the same as the movie (or the part when she is at the Ice Castle anyhow.) and is missing a cloak. getting Sven and Kristoff help's. Kristoff sleigh is also a nice bonus.

this is probably the most i payed for a set just to get the mini fig's. as the main point of buying the set. ah well. it would bug me to only ever have just Olaf, Anna and Elsa and to know that Sven and Kristoff was out there and not to have them.

again not going to bother me.
we all know the only reason anyone buys this set is "BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
maybe the wheelchair help's. but for me "BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

    from amazon.

    #70349 Ruina's Lock & Roller for £14.24
#70600 Ninja Bike Chase for £17.09 (that's the last of the Skybound set's i am after.)
#75151 Clone Turbo Tank For £19.99

Total Cost £51.32 ( offer code BIGTHANKS used = £10 off.)
    Price payed £41.32

    i view it as paying £9.24 for #70349 and £12.09 for #70600,
with #75151 RRP now at £109.99 getting it for £90 off, is already a good deal.

i like to note that i was never super interested in the tank, it was a it be nice to have, BUT not at that price point. so i was Shocked from here to neverland and back when i seen it at £19.99 on my star wars amazon wish list. (i have lists setup for each main theme i buy. (Ninjago, Nexo, star wars, and so on.) and i put set i like to own, and need to own, in to them.
i even have a list for set's at highest priority, (it a mix of themes) the set's i wish to have right now type thing. witch part from #41062 (who i have given up on it need to be dam cheap for me to get it, more so now there is a better model of the same building.) and #70591 who need's to be sub £10 before i even think about it. the list is empty right now, witch is a good thing as so is my Lego budget for this month. (well with out my mum's help that is.)
anyhow got side tracked there. as i was saying i was shocked to see it at £19.99, i was fast enough to get the price to over £50. so i could use the offer code that is today only. kind of wish i held off a little bit on getting the other set's, (fun in the park and Anna.) as i was looking for better deal in the other 2 set's (Ruina's and Bike Chase) that i got with the tank.
still think i got the best deal i could. (hindsight is 20/20 after all.) yes i could have maybe saved more if i had held off on the warehouse deals, but then maybe someone other then me have got them and then it not as good of a deal. (fun in the park is £29.99 right now and Anna £17.97.) (and i am shore that Ruina's and Bike Chase will come down way more before Lego stop making them.)
in all today i placed orders for 5 sets. who RRP when all added up is, £202.95, i payed for all 5 £81.42, this has saved me, £121.53 in all and that is about 59.9% off RRP.
ok so most of that saving is down to the Crazy deal i got on the tank. with out that i save about 33% on the other 4 set's. and i save about 82% on the tank.
sometimes, it pays off to be up at 1:30am :)

(please note that i have spent over 1 hour working on this post. i hope i got all the spelling and grammar, with each read over i find more mistakes.)

on a side note, i wonder is the £19.99 Price on the tank was a mistype by some soon to be sacked amazon worker who missed out the "0" when he type out £109.99 ending with it saying £19.99...

Stopped by my local TRU after work to grabbed two #71258 E.T. Fun Pack with the BOGO free promo. Already have one, but wanted more E.T. minifigures. I guess I can trade the base if anybody is interested.

Also grabbed two LEGO Dimensions Gaming Capsules (storage case) on the same BOGO to store the sets I care less about (I'm looking at you Chima) until I have a proper Dimensions display area (read: never).

And, since it's not marked up, grabbed #31054 Blue Express. Will probably get more later on to build passenger cars.

Was very tempted to grab two #71256 Gremlins Team Pack to starts a Gremlins army, but did not.

3 #10824 for $5 and 5 #10819 for $8 at Marshalls - what little they have is generally clearance DUPLO. there were 4 more 10824 marked $10 and another marked $11.99 but the cashier said they're in the system as different items so I couldn't get the others at $5. the higher price is still an okay deal, but I felt I should pass with current cash flow and after being turned down for the lower price

@chrisalddin I've bought from a few packacking may be damaged listings with no problem at all, especially since I buy to build and/or as a parts pack. yeah the baby fig is a highlight of of #60134 - CMF S16 Babysitter is an alternative for people who want more babies and/or less other parts

    cool.
and i know it the biggest Quinjet.
btw it's also been out of production for some time. so to me, it may as well be from the 80's. it's old and out of my mind.
i spend enough on the current set's lego make, i dont need to start looking at older sets that are limited in availability.

Thought it would be rude to ignore the £10 that Amazon was taking off a £50 spend.
Started my TLBM collection with #70905 as they have it marked down to £50 from £54.99 which was convenient.
I was also given an Amazon gift card for christmas so used that as well.

    well that is easy,
the biggest one is a troop/cargo transport. (maybe 30 people)
the middle one is a small team transport. (maybe 10 people)
the small one is a stealth quinjet. and has room for maybe 4 people at most.

@chrisalddin Not a bad idea, but I'm not quite sure what you mean by, "i know just the item to hang it from"...
The only thing I've got in my study / LEGO room is a ceiling light and I'd not want to hang it from that for two reasons:
    1. I'd bang my head on it every 2 seconds
    2. I'm not sure proximity to a lightbulb would be very good for the LEGO
I'm sure I'll come up with something. :-)
