@Wido, do work on this and keep us posted and @CCC I think @philiptoys is right as this way it can work better but we do have to keep the postage costs in mind.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
^ Right for him, but not right for me.

Worldwide postage on 1 or 2 CMFs is just not worth it for me (and probably most people). Within europe is just about acceptable if for a large trade, whereas in country is fine for even 2 CMFs.

If I only have the option of in-country or international, and no option of just selecting europe as international, then international remains firmly off.
  • CoolsplashCoolsplash Member Posts: 935
@CCC how about set up a limited to trade at least 5 or more mini figures? I know there will be lots of folks who are looking for just 1 mini figure to swap but for postage cost it will be feasible to set up a limit of 5 or more mini figures.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
I cannot work out how to set minimum limits on there. It is something I have thought should be implemented for ages, and why I prefer to use swapfig.com instead. You can set minimum trades, and set locations for trades in a much better way.

trade limitations have pros and cons.
Pros that you always swap an minimum amount of minifigures.
Cons that you can miss out 1 on 1 swap with something very much wanted.
Thats why i leave that to the users. They can decide per swap if it is worth it or not.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
^ But you don't leave it to the users. I want to be able to block people offering just a single minifig for one of mine. They are simply not worth the postage. I have been getting 5-6 trade offers per day, all with just one trade offered. I started to cancel them, but now I just removed most of my wants from the site as it is a pain to keep getting the same offers from different over and over when I know they will not be acceptable. Now if I was only shown trades that I would accept, then I would accept many more.
  • CoolsplashCoolsplash Member Posts: 935
I do agree with you @CCC and the pain it can be and I guess it won't work in swap like it would work in selling. @Wido can there be a way out of the situation @CCC just explained?
  • WidoWido Member Posts: 25
    @CCC @coolsplash
agree, site is about saving money else you just wont swap.
Postage for 1 is high i agree too.
Dont you think the risk is too high that you trade with a POS that will not send the items back?
I always get SO pissed when i receive stories that people do not send the item while the other party did send the item. I must also say that for the current countries i do not get a lot of reports. In holland with less users a little more reports of unsuccesfull swaps then the english speaking countries.

if risk is low then lets continue

    [brainstorm mode on]
would you set a minimal amount for all incoming trade request per country that you wish to trade with?

Let say you are from the UK and cost to swap to ireland is same as within UK. would you say. I allow swaps from Ireland but with a minimum of 3.
Then i am from holland postage from uk to holland is higher.
Would you want to select holland as well as a country you want to swap with and set a minumum of 4 items.

Or is this overcomplicated and makes it difficult to set all countries + trade amounts.

Coolsplash is from Dubai and he found someone in pakistan via this forum to swap with. Great but how would you know this if you preselect the countries you want to swap with.

    Or would you say.
Set swap minimum for my country and another swap minimum for the other countries.

    [brainstorm mode off]
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
Well, on another site ... you get to specify the minimum number of figs to trade for domestic and international separately. For UK, postage to Ireland is the same to France or NL. To Northern Ireland it is cheaper, as they are part of the UK!
  • CoolsplashCoolsplash Member Posts: 935
Why can't the person manage to bear the postage cost on their own? I know I would IF I get a nice enough trade. And @Wido a little correction my friend as I am from Pakistan and I found someone in Dubai :P and we are working on a possible trade so hopefully it will go through. But I think we can work on a limit set as I have experienced that postage within the European countries is mainly the same, US postage is steep, Canada post is steep then US, and UK postage has lots of options I feel, so it is a doable option @Wido.

@CCC the other site I did register but its been 2 days I still didn't receive the login details on my email so I don't think any better for the other option, lets see....

Wido how do you update your profil on your site ? i want to put UAE as my country .
  • CoolsplashCoolsplash Member Posts: 935
@Wido, forgot to mention I still cannot register cause my country is not showing in the list.
  • kylejohnson11kylejohnson11 Member Posts: 508
@coolsplash did you check your spam e-mail folder for your registration confirmation?
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
So something else that is useful.

Do you have a way of blocking trades from specific users that I do not want to trade with? Someone asked me to trade 4x of my figures (from Series 2,3,4) for one of theirs (a common one from S9) so I denied it and just put "no way" as the reason. They then send me a message saying I am not polite for saying that. Is there a way I can block them from ever offering trades again?
  • WidoWido Member Posts: 25
    @coolsplash i have added pakistan..
@philiptoys I have changed your profile to UAE. (and added to the country list)

Gimme a couple of days to enable to swap between different countries option. I guess i will have it finished this weekend.
  • WidoWido Member Posts: 25
this will be added to the profile page
  • philiptoysphiliptoys Member Posts: 31
    awesome !!
  • WidoWido Member Posts: 25
    @ccc
i was thinking of that too the other day.
where would we want to block a user?
we can do this in the swap page or where you accept / refuse an incoming request.
So if CCC blocks Coolsplash then in the profile of CCC he can see a list of persons that he blocks and should be able to unblock right?
also CCC can still see Coolsplash his items in the swap page but Coolsplash cannot see CCC items anymore and therefor Coolsplash can never request to swap with CCC anymore.

  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556

Another thing that is really useful is if you can input that you have more than one of a figure for swap in the haves list (and that you want more than one of a figure on your wants list).

Also using recognised notation for non-CMFs.

Eg. your cx932 is really what brickset and bricklink call sw239. You copied their category names and their images, so why not their names? It makes understanding which figure you have / are after much easier to use a reconigised number, rather than a new one. Especially for the endless variants of storm troopers and clones and so on. And it makes it quick to search for on a long page.
  • WidoWido Member Posts: 25
    @ccc
for the non-cmf`s. Sure that can be done.
About the amounts other then the have and want list where to display this more?
In other words what is the benefit for storing the amount of minifigures?
    for haves and wants?

  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
If I have three stormtroopers (for example) to trade, someone wanting an army of stormtroopers might be interested in more than one. There are some people that want multiple of the same figure.
  • CoolsplashCoolsplash Member Posts: 935
Thanks for the update @Wido and will check my spam folder now @kylejohnson11...

  • WidoWido Member Posts: 25
how do you know that someone wants 4 items.
would he contact you? send a message saying hi i see you have 4 stormtroopers can i have all 4? something like that?
or when someone initiates a swap add a comment to the swap request?

Another option is that every user needs to supply for each minifigure an amount.

  • RastRast Member Posts: 111
Everything went well for me, as a first time user.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,556
^^ Take a look at how swapfig.com works

If someone wants four of a figure, they should be able to input that. If someone has four of a figure, they should be able to input that. They will get 4x matches, so could have a good trade.

If they can only say they have one of a figure, and the other can only say they want one of a figure, then the trade could well be denied since the system only allows you to swap one of each figure at a time.

    @ccc and all other readers
Can you give me some creative input to block a user.
When do you know that you want to block someone to send you swap requests?
For sure after a bad swap Or a bad attitude.
And where would you expect a button saying BLOCK
It would be cool to display the amount of users that blocked the person in his profile.

Tomorrow i will be putting live
    - minimum trade amounts
    - profile page
    - More info in view profile page
    - Selection to swap with other countries
    - Brickset IDs for the Non MFC`s
    - Some small checks, bug fixes and textual stuff.
    - Block users to send swap requests.

Need some time to think about inventory management.

    now in production
    minimum trade amounts.
You can set this in your profile page.
If you are from the uk you see now 1. You can change this typing in a new value and press edit. If the value is 3 then in the swap page you only see people where you can swap at least 3 items.
This is also the other way around. Still they can send you a request for 1 item. But by denying this request and do a new request you can still solve this
I will create a protection that its not possible anymore.

    Profile page
will show all items that you need and have and all the comments from the swap results. All other users can see this too.
In the profile page you also can manage the minimum trade amounts and countries you want to swap with.

    Selecting other swap countries.
if you are from the UK and you want to swap with the US people you add USA to your list.
US people also need to add UK to their list. Then its possible to see the users who want to swap international.
Tip. just add all the countries with minimum swap amount is 1.
Overtime other people will also add other countries to their list.
So the swap requests should come in.

    Deleting swap countries.
You can delete a swap country except the country that is in your profile. A UK person cannot delete UK in the swap country list. Just the minimum trade amount.

I assume Swapfig.com is still working, but I signed up awhile ago and can't remember my password.  It won't send me a reset link, and when I tried to contact them, I cannot get a request through.  Anyone on here work for them that could help me?

Sorry to resurrect a zombie thread!  I was doing a search for swapfig.com and this came up.
