Yesterday I picked up my order of baseplates from Walmart (do I need that many? I say yes), and during lunch I picked up a few things at Target (not much on clearance). Now I have a couple more animals for my Pet Shop.

After showing up to the Disney CMF game quite late, I just finished my collection this afternoon. My wife got me 13 for Christmas, I already had 1, so it was a quick trip for the final four (Genie, Maleficent, Daisy, and Peter Pan).

My local Lego store had 2 full boxes out, plus probably another 4 opened boxes in bins on their shelves. The lady who cashed me out said that they have tons of cases left (emphasis was put on TONS). Go figure!

As I suffer from mild completionism, it feels good to officially check my first CMF series off. It's unlikely I'll go after any previous series. I'm considering the Batman CMFs, but will probably wait until the next series...whatever and whenever that may be.

    @blogzilly
I haven't ordered a 75149 yet, but I will. I just noticed that happens to be the set you had trouble with. PM'ed you about transaction details.

I started writing order numbers to avoid confusing myself when packing multiple orders at the same time. Then I realized buyers might be similarly befuddled when receiving multiple orders.

The order I just got had the number written on the bubblemailer under the mailing label. The contents were in one midsized bag, but the order was mostly a large quantity of one lot, with the other parts easily identifiable.

I have the same username on BL; my store name is The Brick Baron http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=KingAlanI

@chrisalddin you're hardly the only person to buy a keychain to get a promo. I go for small regular sets, but sometimes all/moist of the cheap ones sell out.

    oh i can bet.
but. i plan to use this Key-chain with my keys.
the shock, the horror, a key-chain getting used in the way it was planned to be used for.

side note. order has shipped. it look like if you order around 5am, and it not a new sale/new stock/new freebee day. your order may get shipped out same day.

I'm not happy. But to answer your question, a shitty eBay Seller, and there are many. Sadly as big as eBay is? They don't have the simplest features for searching that BL does like being able to have a Dislike list, search with Favorite Sellers on Top, etc.

eBay is great, I owe it a lot it's been great to me. It could be better. :)

Next! On the @blogzilly saga: a boxed set with the bags and instructions removed, box folded in four, all shipped in a nice Ziploc bag. Will the minifigures be taped on the outside of the envelope? Find out tomorrow at the same bat-time, same bat-channel!

    Seriously, that sucks big time!

I got jestro's volcano lair for like 40% off on a amazon, because the box had a corner crushed and seals open. at first look, nothing seemed to miss. and I think it was about 15€ cheaper than the normal discounted price, so I figure that receiving a damaged box isn't always bad.

@blogzilly I've had Lego Dimensions stuff shipped in bubble mailers from both amazon & TRU, more than once from each, and the boxes are always damaged and or folded to fit. So it isn't just bad ebay sellers - at least you can ask them if the items will ship in a box. I feel amazon is ignoring all of my angry packaging feedback.

The reality is, for something like dimensions, the VAST majority of buyers couldn't care less about the box. It will get opened and discarded. This is why I always block buyers on eBay that ask about box condition and how I ship and all. I always ship in outer protective boxes with bubble wrap or air packs. I just don't have patience for people that want pristine boxes though so I nearly always put in my listings that the box has minor shelf wear even if it is pristine.

Sounds to me like I would have no issues purchasing from you. For the most part, I could care less about a bit of shelf wear, the important thing is that the contents are all there. The only real exceptions to this for me are SDCC stuff & a few other special boxes like the Classic Space, Pirate & Castle mini fgwp sets. I worry more about the state of the seals & signs of actual tampering, etc.

Literally the only time I care about box condition is if I'm buying something that is to resell later. Even then, if the price is right, I don't worry about it. I got several Batman UCS Tumblers for $117 each with trashed / crushed boxes. Everything else was sealed. At that price, I don't care.

I ship quick in general, often just a day or two, but sometimes same day if circumstances are right, so I get this. Was it simple to sort/pack?

@pharmjod not having to worry about box condition is one reason I like selling parts or polybags rather than boxed sets

@pharmjod  Really, you block a Buyer who asks you about it? Isn't that a bit like putting the cart before the horse? Wouldn't it depend on how the question comes in? It's been a steady supply of shitty packaging in the last 2 months on eBay, and it's never been great. If you buy on eBay and sell you know this better than most. It's natural for some Buyers to be concerned about how items are shipped. And it's not good business sense to assume that since some Dimensions players don't care about packaging, that all Buyers of Dimensions product don't care.

Best at bet is to just showcase the product you have well, then assume everyone wants the item  in the condition you've shown it. Then...make sure that's how they get it.

My opinion? Receiving the question re: how are you going to DO that? It is an opportunity to do what you just did, explain how YOU ship and the extra steps YOU take, what sets YOU apart, but also explain, if it's important to your business model, that small amounts of shelf wear can't be avoided. You don't have to answer these inquiries differently every time. Keep a note saved that you like...copy/paste and build around it. Takes seconds and you don't turn away potential Buyers.

    just my two cents.

As an ebay seller myself, I welcome questions like that. I pride myself on decent packaging and
want the buyer to have a decent service. If that means explaining how I pack and send their goods and most of all reassuring them. I'm more than happy to do so.

Oh almost forgot to show this weeks disgustingly over the top haul. In the first image I replaced the Slave 1 but kept the U-wing that was scratched across the front. Also the last image is from here. I opened it within seconds of its arrival and started building. It is one of my favorite all time Batwing designs.

Went to Walmart today and the aisle was totally wiped out. There were three City sets that had been heavily discounted, a totally empty and ripped box of LEGO Batman Movie mini figures, and a couple of Star Wars sets. Nothing that I needed/wanted so I left empty handed :(
  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Member Posts: 2,342
Supermarket January clearance, same thing that brought me out of my dark age last year - #41112 for $3.32, got 22 so far for parts*. Many sets are only 17% off. They already had 41112 at $3.99 instead of $4.99, so 17% off that is like 33.5% off MSRP. Nexo ultimates aren't that great at 30% off. The bigger discounts were already gone.

**Also got a few at Target for $3.48, about the same after redcard discount

@Glacierfalls265 There were two Jokerlands at $88 each at the Walmart I visited afterwards; however (and I should have taken photos), one of them was sealed with clear tape, and the other one looked like someone took the time to open the box very carefully so they could reseal it again. Now I have experience what many of you post here.

Wegmans, it's a regional chain unfortunately not in your area. Tops, one of the other local supermarkets, doesn't have a toy section at all except for a bit of dollar store type junk, so I understand.

^Thanks, KingAlanl, I know the chain from visits to customer sites in your area. My day job is writing software for food service distributors, and a couple of my customers sell to Wegmans. Sadly they sell food, not LEGO.

@SumoLego I was afraid going on about how great Wegmans is would be off topic. We Rochestarians do like to talk about that. They have some fancy food but also a lot of regular stuff at regular prices. Think a large Trader Joes without the goofy aesthetic. The service is great.

    At one now, got 7 more 41112, 3 #10723 for $6 and #41141 for $3 (got 4 at Target for $5.03 and that's a deal)

I wasn't really sure where to post this (or if this type of post is okay?), but as it pertains to buying, I ended up here.

I've stumbled upon this pile of Lego for sale. It is apparently someone's childhood collection and they're very hesitant to sell it. But I think I see some good bits in there worth going for. I know I see the front of the Armada Flagship (top middle of pile). I also see some pieces from at least one old Pirate ship (unsure which - left side). But I'm a bit lost on everything else. Anything catch anyone else's eye?

He estimates this is 45-50lbs of bricks and wants $450 for it. I think that's a bit much, but depending on the opinions, I might take a gamble. He's trying to nail down how complete the ships are as this was only 70% of his childhood collection...his parents tossed the other 30%.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Member Posts: 2,342
    also got 8 #41069 for $3.22
They had S16 for $3.42, not worth it to resell lower end figures but great for higher end or ones you want anyway.
About 20 loose bags, found 1 Rogue. (Nearly) a full case behind it, but didn't have time to feel those, taking that way home to check them ASAP

Sounds fishy. One doesn't have to estimate weight.

    LEGO + Buckets + Scale = Knowledge

So far in my experience, and not just LEGO, when a Seller shows you a big pile of stuff dumped out, parts are usually strategically placed. It's less a pile and more of an orchestration.

@Switchfoot55 I'm with @blogzilly; get him to weigh it for you. The relatively high price most likely reflects his reluctance to sell. So you can always try talking him down (particularly if, when weighed, it turns out to be substantially below his estimate), but if the ships don't turn up whole and you had your heart set on them, this might be a better pile to buy if you just want to increase your MOCing stockpile, rather than for specific parts...
