Here's a crazy idea: why doesn't someone just ask Lego?

Clearly none of the people doing the "reporting" have journalism degrees.

I would expect something special for 40th anniversary!!
  • FireheartFireheart Suffolk, UKMember Posts: 462
For it to be special it needs to be as good, or better than #10179, and on the same scale. If it's not then it will go down like a lead balloon. And there will be many that say why didn't they do something special that hasn't been done before... I just hope they get it right, what ever the 40th anniversary UCS is.

I would like to hear what @CapnRex101 thinks on the rumours? In his personal opinion.

I think we need a UCS Falcon now. The only people who don't want it are those that have one in the loft and hope it's going to bring them £5k, the other 99.5%+ desperately want one to actually build.

Don't get me wrong, I am not criticising those wise enough to get one originally, and I hope the original still stays a solid investment, but I think the fan base has expanded so much that Lego need to do this. A Force Awakens version would help differentiate and maybe appease people who are still holding the first as an investment play.

I was in my dark ages when it came out, and then I couldn't have afforded it any way. Now I can't afford it... But I would totally get it. :)

Is the news of the possible rerelease of #10179 gaining momentum purely based off the speculation of this forum and others.
We're reporting other boards are saying it is confirmed, others are basing their facts on it's reported here and so on and so on......
Does anyone have any real facts are we just throwing darts and hoping one will hit the target?
I read it on the internet.  It must be true!

@Fireheart - I think the rumour has the potential to be correct...

@CApnRex101 - Have you considered a career in politics!?!

But, in all seriousness, thanks for your reply - that's good enough for me.  After a rubbish 2016, this year is shaping up to be a good one for AFOLs!

I bricklinked mine, when the expensive unique parts were quite reasonable, it only has 6L bars where 6.6L bars should be and light grey antennae on LBG antennae bases, the minifigs from tthe last OT system variant #7965 everything else is as it should be.

I would love another, as long as it was built differently to the 10179 - hopefully with an interior and perhaps with a full complement of TFA and ANH or ESB or ROTJ minifigs - maybe Lando and Niem  nunb (attack on DS2) just for a change?

If that were to happen in UCS flavour (hopefully with at least 4k pieces) i'd be buying it for sure, and i'd stick my 10179 on the wall out of the way on a telly stand. I wonder whether there's any panic selling about to happen for those holding unopened sets?

Just finished my second viewing of Rogue One and got really sad at the end.  I thought that the CGI was a bit jarring the first time I saw it, but now I'm really glad they were able to get Leia in there.

A non-Hoth Aluminum Falcon would be nice.  Lando and Niem Nunb would be excellent.

If a new UCS falcon is on the way I would like to see it come with a large number of figures as the "UCS" players do. There are  17 in Ewok Village, 14 in SandCrawler, 15 in Assault on Hoth and 27 in the new death star.
Unfortunately  I don't see it happening though.

    I would like
    Luke -Tatooine
    Leia- ANH/Empire
    Han-ANH/Empire/Force Awakens
    Chewbacca
    Ben Kenobi
    Darth Vader
    Finn
    Rey
    Lando
    Nien Numb
    BB8
    R2D2

I don't think they'll include minifigures out of continuity. For example Ben and Rey. Wouldn't really make sense.

I so want this to be true just because to me its the golden fleece of Lego Sets, even though I have the bricklinked parts to build the original.
(actually more parts than the original as I also bought the parts to do the engine modification that  Scottish Dave from EB came up with as I thought it looked better)

After all the speculation about this though, I had to laugh this afternoon when a Lego store employee asked what I was saving my VIP points for and I said then next big UCS set.

His reply was 'what, the Snowspeeder?

    Either way, would be happy.

are UCS designers getting lazy? another re-release? though it seems this one isn't getting a bad reception. at least so far.

it's a 10 years old set, isn't there a risk it will look dated? the death star looks kinda dated.

I would agree except credible sources have stated it included both the circle and rectangle radar dishes so you can display it as original trilogy or sequel trilogy.

I'm thinking of making some sort of Scarif Base playset based on the giant black tower w/ satellite in the movie. Any ideas? Play features and stuff, nothing too huge or piece-greedy

It's not necessarily laziness. If there is in fact a UCS Falcon, it's most likely intended to celebrate the 40th anniversary of A New Hope—and to be honest, there's not much in A New Hope that hasn't already been covered, either in regular or UCS sets. With that in mind, I think the Falcon is a fine choice—it's almost ten years old and because of its higher price and more limited production than most other sets, it's much harder for most people to obtain than many of the other possible subjects.

Beyond that, if the rumors are true I doubt it'll just be a straight rerelease. Even if there aren't major structural changes there have still been plenty of small greebly parts and versatile connectors released in the interim that could be used to improve the Falcon's look or build in minor ways.

It could come with a circular and rectangular radar dish - for when the rebuilt archive at Scarif Base is re-introduced in Episode VIII.

(The new one would have a rectangular dish.  That's how you know it's an upgrade.)

Or a brick-built rathtar would be most excellent as well.

Sumo just beat me to the punch. They should do a UCS Falcon with "alternative" builds - OT version and TFA version - just like the Back to the Future set. That's a good excuse to expand the mini fig collection to include a variety:
    - New Hope: Han, Chewie, Ben, Luke, and the droids (with the Dejarik table and training helmet / remote)
    - Empire: Han, Leia (each with alt gas masks), Lando, Chewie w/ disassembled threepio (with
    mynocks!)
    - ROTJ: Lando, Nien Nunb
    - TFA: old Han, Chewie, Finn, Rey, BB-8

If it does happen, it means I can part out the #75105 for MOCs & not have to BrickLink a round dish for it. The only down side to this, yet more TFA minifigures to offload somewhere.

Well I can guarantee it won't be me. As it is, apart from the minifigures from #75105, I also have the extra minifigures from the second sets of #75126 & #75125 to get rid of. I grab doubles of all the microfighter sets so I can build one & throw the second into my MOC parts collection (before anyone asks, I'm keeping the other extra minifigures).

The falcon is cool and stuff but there are tons of other good sets that could be done on the same level as the falcon. With a 500 price tag (assuming lego still loosely based their price tag on the parts) it would open the door for a tier one quality set. Yet again looking back at some of the previous UCS sets just about anything will feel tier one. I think the best scenario is that lego puts the expensive parts in some random throwaway sets (with the exception of printed parts). This allows people to "bricklink" the ship at a cheaper cost without plummeting the originals price. I would rather see them out the effort into something new such as an AT-AT, Venator or providence class cruisers, or Mom Calamari cruisers. I think making falcon parts in other sets is the best case scenario because it allows people who really want it to get it, no you won't  original parts but I doubt nearly anyone is going to notice the difference. I personally do not own a falcon although I would love to have one but it's something I'll slowly build over time. I think remaking a UCS version of the falcon, especially with the way lego has been pumping out sets is not what I want to see happen to the set.

Personally, I don't see issues with a new UCS MF release, so what if it makes the aftermarket price for the first UCS MF to dip a little, it's meant to be built, it's not an investment portfolio. BrickLink is not an option for everyone, having been involved in it for a little while now, I can safely say I know quite a few people who would be frustrated & lost trying to use it (they have enough issues with eBay, Amazon, etc), but would love a UCS MF. A new UCS MF could end up being a massive improvement on the previous version, after looking through the instructions & seeing one in the brick, I'd prefer to see what TLG could do for a new version, as I wouldn't touch the original even if one one were to fall in my lap for the original RRP.

I'm in agreement with Jackad. A different UCS MF will have my enthusiasm and my cash, but it hasn't been gone that long and as redos go for ANH, I think the ISD needs a re-release more - it has been gone far longer and had those clumsy magnets holding it together, is just as iconic and it is begging for a modern building technique update.

UCS AT-AT would be great, but ESB isn't 40 years old, so we may have to wait for that one unless Disney requires Lego to make a Rogue One AT-ACT (that would hopefully have an ESB Hoth alternative build.

I can see MF being a bigger draw for Disney - reeling in the fans of EP7 (new money) and EP4 (old money that may or may not have already gotten a 10179).

I'd still wager that there will be plenty of people here and elsewhere that will still procrastinate on getting one, waiting for a sale that may never happen and miss out again.

With X-wing and (presumably) MF redone in UCS flavour, I doubt resellers will ever see 10-fold increases again - as that SSD/IS/Advanced Tie/AT-ST etc that you missed out on will probably getting redone in the near future, there's not many iconic SW vehicles that haven't yet been done in UCS.

There may be a new wave of SW AFOLs that are of an age that grew up with the PT (they generally prefer PT to OT or at least don't think the PT was poor), but based on past experience, I don't think TLG have much enthusiasm for PT UCS sets as the have sold poorly previously.

Yes, I totally agree but not necessarily from the actual sales of it...

With the retirement of the Sandcrawler & Ewok Village, the high-end SW sets are a bit limited at the moment (with the exception of my favourite #75060).

TLG badly need something to create some interest in the range (especially following Insult on Hoth and 10188 v1.01 which were mediocre at best); and something like a new UCS Falcon or  UCS Star Destroyer would do nicely!

If the pricing is set around the £6-700, possibly for a limited pre-order run of 25,000, I'm sure they'd do quite well out of it, but the real profit would be from the additional interest/publicity and associated sales.  I'd guess that the majority of more 'casual' Star Wars fans would be drawn into a shop by a new flagship set and end up walking out with the UCS TIE or Slave 1...

Time will tell, but I'm already budgeting for it!

Just watching a ANH on Sky. The OT could've been wrapped up quite quickly if the MF had blown Vader's advanced Tie to bits after it was sent spinning out of the trench by the other Tie that clipped it. :P

Having a set with availability of 6 months or less that isn't a promotional or special event exclusive is a bit of a concern. It's hard enough to collect sets from multiple themes with big ticket items when you're working off the idea they'll be available for around 2 years approximately, but if TLG start pulling this, I might have reevaluate our Lego purchases...

#75098 was previously £219.99, so it hasn't escaped either.  It's an interesting strategy by TLG as it was already ridiculously priced; perhaps the sales figures are better than I'd anticipated!  I'm still waiting for a serious discount on it, otherwise it's an easy pass....
