Dare I say, Walmart?

If the Walmart near me wasn't 3.2 miles away (one way), I wouldn't be a fan of going 'browsing' for sales/clearance items. Thankfully, this one is not a busy store, so I don't mind going (and sometimes helping customers...but that's for another post haha) and browsing around...

That said...half of the stores I visited yesterday made me realize why I dislike humans in general (in my mind, I am a Vulcan)...either way, I can stand people if I get LEGO sets at 50% off (or more!).

Anyways, don't lose hope and try going to Walmart stores you haven't visited, you might be surprised at what you might find. By the way, some of the stores had the toys on 'clearance' in the holiday clearance aisles, so make sure to do your due diligence when it comes to looking for good finds...and don't forget to post them here! Oh, and unlike Walmart, #EmpireDidNothingWrong.

#76054 Batman Scarecrow Harvest of Fear- $45

Also in the Electronics department I saw the Trickster, Nightwing, Batzarro, and Cosmic Boy DVD with minifigure packs for $7.50 each.

    Just picked up a #76030 Hydra Showdown for $9, and... a #10697 for $19!

Edit: Almost forgot to mention, I also picked up a #10674 Juniors Pony Farm at Sam's Club for $9 and change earlier today.  I was hoping to find a cheap #60130 Prison Island there.

The Creator Corner Deli and Grocery Store were both $30 a piece at my local Walmart. Not marked, had to scan them to see the price. I passed- this time last year the Grocery Store got down to $21 at my local Walmarts. I shouldn't have passed!

@GIR3691 Thanks for the tip on #76054! I used Brickseek to find a Walmart (naturally the one closest to work) which supposedly had the set in stock. After digging through the entire remains of the Lego aisle I finally spotted the box on the very top of a shelf where they store the overflow. Luckily I'm 5'11" so I could reach it. The box has some shelf wear but the seals look okay. I never had any money during all of the pre-Christmas sales so I am happy enough with the price.

^Oddly enough a wal-mart before Christmas had ONE copy of that Scarecrow set. The box was definitely not in great condition, but the seals looked intact. I haven't opened it yet. But I figured it was the same price as Amazon was (but at the time of purchasing, Amazon didn't have any left), so I bought it.

That's the problem with most in store sales that I find; They never are any cheaper than Amazon. I know some people find great deals, but in my experience, I can just wait for Amazon and find it just as cheap compared to in store sales.

Tis the season to scan your boxes, ladies and gents.

My area is shopped out, but there were two #31051 Creator Lighthouse Points sitting on the shelf at full price. I remebered the post that @GIR3691 made and gave them a quick scan: $30!

I bought them both and wish they had more. Central Ohio Walmart. YMMV.

@Sethro3 I agree with the idea a of online sales but it's much easier to sneak things into my house from the car than to explain countless parcels arriving in the mail. My dad is semi-retired and works from home so I prefer to have stuff shipped to their house rather than sit outside tempting passersby.

The Scarecrow set is really the first time a clearance item has worked out for me though. Especially at Walmart.

^That was my line of thinking too. I didn't want to have to explain the set being shipped, especially before Christmas. So Wal-mart worked out for me in this case also. But under normal circumstances I will stand by what I said. But I will take a sale wherever I can find it. I'm not stuck on just ONE store.

I was thinking about the theft of parcels, now that it is after Christmas my guess it will be less frequent, but if you are worried and have the space on your front porch/front door area, I would suggest a large potted plant on something else where a post man/delivery guy can kind of hide it behind the object to mask it a bit from the street. OR tell the delivery guy that you want it delivered to behind the home, which some will do to try to prevent such theft.

A security camera may be a touch much but if good enough resolution you can at least get a picture of the scumbag to provide to the cops or to the news stations around your area.
Finally they now have those camera doorbell devices now that you can use to try to scare off those scumbags that want your package and most can stream footage to your mobile phone.

Definitely scan everything. I picked up #31039 Blue Power Jet for  $17, it was marked full price on the shelf. They had a couple of Chima sets too, but they were oddly full price.

Clearance/rollback items (in regular aisles) nearly gone except for some bigger sets.
Several 2017 sets, especially DC Girls and Moana. Most of a Batman CMF case hiding behind a half full S16 case.

I ended up next to a Walmart today running an errand and figured I'd run in to check out the stock and see if there were any deals to be had. The shelves were pretty bare with a few sets. One picked over Batman CMF box. Not much.

I did however see #60047 marked down to $79.00. Now, the price isn't what caught my eye, but instead the box. It only resembled a box due to the amount of tape that had been used to patch it back together. Who knows if the contents are in okay shape. But as I haven't had a lot of Walmart buying experience, it made me wonder if they would be willing to negotiate or lower the price down. Does anyone have any experience with this or recommendations for approaching it? At $79 I would still pass. But based on the state of the box, I figure if I can drop that even more, then maybe it would be worth it.

    Thoughts?

A couple of weeks ago I went to a store and saw the Final Duel marked down to either $15 or $20, but it was opened (one of those 75% off clearance deals). I went to the customer service desk and told them that if I could open it and see if it had all the bags inside (it didn't, it was missing one) and asked if they could lower it more, the cashier told me no (I still should have gotten it). Maybe had I asked for the manager, but for a thing like that it's not worth the hassle.

Again, like everything, YMMV. Try it, worst case scenario they say no.

Scanned the last Millenium Falcon my local one had. Full price. And box didn't feel right. Packing tape on one side and the box was way too heavy. Sounded like LEGO inside, but far too much. It barely moved it was so packed inside. Took it to customer service and simply said "you might want to open this; what's on the box isn't in the box." Already have the set still sealed at home and picked it up just now. Completely different weight and sound.

This made me think of the end of the movie Seven where Brad Pitt keeps asking, "what's in the box!?!"

We will always be wondering what was inside the box...

No. Sorry for the confusion. I already had a copy of the set at home. I wasn't about to buy it after it feeling so oddly heavy. And definitely not for $149.99. I didn't pay that much for my real copy.

But yes, UCS would've been amazing. Maybe I'll do that if I'm ever insanely rich. But $20 sets and return them with incredibly valuable minifigs included. I'll be the Brick Bandit...or something.

At various stores I take opened sets to the service desk. some have sounded like loose rather than bagged LEGO. Damaged seals including peeled cardboard are the first clue.
Yeah, it's probably not gonna be UCS, but I do dream of stores putting out valuable old sets for MSRP or even a discount.

^Wal-Mart does that sometimes. I found the old Glider Batman/Catwoman set just a few months ago for $1 and saw the big ship from Space Police III about six months ago at a different one. That one was retail.

It pays to scan everything. I found a #75103 FO Transporter today in Burnsville for $21. There was only one left and it had one of those weird stickers on it that looks like it may have been a return or something. Box is in great shape!

    #75825 for $30, getting that
#75915 for $15 would be cool if you want it yourself
Also they stocked up on new sets

Guessing a CS person took back a set from another store? Unless CS is now tagging returns with a specific barcode/sticker maybe?

This was right in the middle of the front of the box.

more than likely it's an inventory sticker that was placed on the box as it was being re-routed to your store.

I've seen plenty like these on the Best Buy PS4 Lego Dimensions starter packs.

Went to a local Walmart and they had all of the new TLBM sets out,  all at around 10-20% off.  The Batcave for $88, Joker's Lowrider for $45,  Clayface Splat attack for $32, and the Scarecrow and Catwoman sets for $16, etc. etc.    They also had a couple of boxes of the CMFs, which I grabbed 5 of to start(got Red Hood, Catman, Fairy Batman, and sadly, two Calculators(my feeling skills are terrible).  If anyone wants to trade for a Calculator, let me know!

^I saw they had a lot of the sets at the lower prices. They had the main 4 out before Christmas at those same discounted prices. But the rest of the line were at that discounted price now too. I am still going to wait on the big sets for a better sale, but I did pick up the remaining $20 sets I needed at $16.42.
  • josekaleljosekalel Member Posts: 682
Very weird stock at Walmart, they need to get their stuff straight and restock and label properly. The store before this had Batman sets but very disorganized.

Walmart faked me out good the other day. I found a #10248 Ferrari F40 on the shelf and figured it HAD to be an Internet return and should be clearance priced.  But, no. It scanned for full price :-(
    No weird stickers BTW.
  • josekaleljosekalel Member Posts: 682
@77ncaachamps I got the AT-TE, which is my project for this weekend! The tank...well, I want it but not that bad, I'll wait and see if it goes at a lower price sometime.

I guess assembly square has to wait to get purchased...

I ran into my local WM yesterday and snagged some Friends Advent Calendars for $19. They also have the #41232 Super Hero Supergirls High School on clearance for $60

    Good move!

The Assembly Square will be around for some time.
But that AT-TE at that price...not so much!

    Enjoy building!

EDIT: I take it back re: the price on the clone tank. It's still a good price, but it can be snagged on Amazon for $79.99. Still better than $109.99!

I wonder how much those weird stickers are for a store's own purposes and to what extent they're for discouraging resellers so regular customers can get it.

A lot of stores have items somewhere that doesn't match the tag on the shelves. Maybe it's an attempt to make the shelf look less empty, perhaps it's a stocking error, or customers goofing around
  • juggles7juggles7 Member Posts: 451

I tend to compulsively move sets back to where their shelf tag is, regardless of how empty it looks :-)

The toy aisles at the Walmarts I've visited are still in a state of despair, the odd thing is that front-end cap was stocked with sets, so I don't know if they'll be 'moving' stuff there permanently or just temporary.
  • sonsofscevasonsofsceva Member Posts: 542
^Since Wal-Mart has a strange clearance policy and older sets linger for a while, they are often reshuffling the Lego aisle, and I hear the employees grumble about it. I know they sometimes let sets mismatch the shelf label for 'zoning' to make the shelves look more plenteous, but there is also some apathy since they know they will rearrange it again soon anyway...
The Burj Khalifa is on a shelf at my local WM with no price on the scanner, but always comes up retail when you track someone down to check it, it has been there almost a month. The first wave Elves set with Farran and his crystal is also there...at retail again, after being cleared last year for $3.
  • josekaleljosekalel Member Posts: 682
Have you tried the WM app to check the price of the set? Make sure you're searching it at the store and not the online store. Most of the times it gives you the price of the item as it would cost at the store even if it is not in stock.
  • datsunrobbiedatsunrobbie Member Posts: 1,813
Hit the local Walmart clearance aisle yesterday. I'd never really looked at the Elves line before, but picked up two #41180 Ragana's Magic Shadow Castle and one #41078 Skyra's Mysterious Sky Castle for $30 each. Also got this DVD set https://www.walmart.com/ip/Lego-Super-Sweet-2-Movie-Collection-The-Lego-Movie-Lego-Batman-The-Movie/42385503 for $13. The DVD set contains a #5002914 LEGO Movie Emmet Key Light.

Picked up two of these on after Christmas clearance recently. Under $10 each. Meant for ornament storage, but should work great for sorting and storing. Rey's speeder for scale.

    Amazon price matched.
  • Sethro3Sethro3 Member Posts: 981
It depends on how you place value on the set. 1000 pieces on average is $100 per the old way of figuring value. $100 definitely feels too expensive, but to say it should retail at $70 seems a tad low for what you get. I would bite at that price if I didn't get it at Target for $75 a month ago.

And the fact that other places price match, even better.
