Hmm, buying two of everything... yes, I admit it, I'm a polybag collector too :)
But actually it was pretty thoughtful of my wife to allow me to keep it.
Backstory: I begged for #6285 for years and never received it. I got mostly Tyco Blocks and other knock off brands.
Fast forward to last year and my mom harps on me for a Christmas list every year. I'd rather she just spend money on the kids and not worry about me, but she is retiring soon and wanted to spend money on her kids while she can still afford to. I told her any Lego set would be awesome and she got me EV.
I still haven't opened it yet, but it's probably the best Christmas gift I've ever received, second only to maybe the He-Man toys I got as a small child, specifically the one Christmas when I got Castle Greyskull and Skake Mountain in one Christmas!
Better late than never! I still want #6285 though...
I made that mistake and came home to find my mum laughing, shouting something about money and packing all my lego into a large box.
My girlfriend at the time (now fiancée) and I met, we were both pretty poor students, which meant that many of our gifts at Christmas were homemade (thankfully we haven't completely lost this knack). She came up with the idea of a LEGO snowglobe, but because she didn't have easy access to seasonal minifigures (and this predated the Elves from Series 11) she decided to go the custom route. Series 2 CMFs were on the shelves at this time, so a maraca and karate champion became Santa and Elf respectively.
I think I might have fallen over with laughter and joy when I got this - and to this day it still works!
I thoughtfully bought myself #70327, #70325, 2 mini figures cases, Star Wars build your own adventure, great sets and the book of knights.
My family and friends got me #60102, #60129 and a 2x1 brick LED torch.
But, by far, the most thoughtful Lego gift came from a super secret Santa from this very forum. A custom made set which is set in a similar setting to where I work and, incorporates one of my Lego loves, monster fighters.
Its called "Fun in the Derelict Park...
Very thoughtful, even my family couldn't believe it.... I believe though, in Lego loonies.
