Set 9494 (Anakin's Jedi Interceptor) Collectibility?

  As a rule of thumb, I'm staying very conservative on Clone Wars; Moderate on Episode I-III; and slightly heavier on Episode IV-III. I'm just worried about re-issues in the long term.

  meh. it will be collectible for LEGO SW completists and/or clone wars fans. in the greater scheme of things, not likekly.

  Been there done that and its a smaller set. The money is in the big sets. If it weren't for all the hype of the Walmart/Target sales going on here I never buy the smaller sets for investment purposes. My only exception are the battle packs.

  I bought it yesterday for 39.99 at my son's insistance. It is WAY overpriced.

  I bought mine at Lego store with $15 in VIP rewards. So $24.99 was easier to swallow.

  @gmpirate Battle Packs? I don't even want to know how many of those you have. (he he) I have a few dozen of those too, from previous years. How long does it take them to appreciate in value? Also, what is your pick of the 2 out now? The ARC/ARF one? Finally, what price do you try to get them at in order to make it worth the effort?

  battlepacks take about 12-18 months after EOL to appreciate well. In 2011 I sold lots of 7667/7668 for min £20 up to about £28. Most purchased under £7.

  What do you all think about set 9494? I'm thinking it will end up being relatively collectible. The only thing that would ruin it would be if Target ran it for over a year. Like WM is doing on Luke's Landspeeder. Other than that aspect I think the set will be sought after when it is retired. What do you think?

  I don't see anything to suggest that this set will be particularly sought after. It's about the 4th version of this ship for starters, all of which are pretty similar apart from the colour. And it's hardly iconic or particularly interesting either. I'm intrigued as to why you've picked this one out as being potentially collectible, as opposed to any other run-of-the-mill set - would you care to elaborate ?

  The only thing that makes this set stand out (for good or for bad), is that it appears to be jam packed with minifigures for a small set. I think this is a trend that appears to be rather succesful for Lego. It's certainly a good way to make you consider buying further iterations of the same vehicle.

  @drdavewatford. Several things...
  
  I have noticed the Rogue Shadow 7672 shot up nicely since EOL. It has some unique minifigs and it has Anakin/Vader.
  Also, Anakin's Starfighter 7669 shot up nicely too. Again, it had Anakin in it.
  All 3 minifigs in 9494 are selling well on eBay and the set has.... Anakin (kids want)
  The set is exclusive to Target. Which I think will mean limited supply and maybe a short run.
  I don't know how much this matters, but it has good playability since you can act out the 'lava' scene.
  Lastly, it has been picked by several LEGO reviewers on Youtube (again, don't know how much this matters) as their fav SW set for 2012 (granted, they aren't all out yet).
  
  Yes, it is a bit pricey, but that's the norm for SW sets. I don't know if it is any more pricey on average for a SW set.
  
  So, that was why I asked. :-) Just some things I had noticed.
