I do like the Ninjago dragons, as they are all very different, but look fantastic. I may have to get the Green NRG Dragon as well, as it's very different again from the previous ones, being technically a large wyvern, with what look like plastic wing membranes.
Getting a Tournament Zane minifigure is a welcome surprise. Zane never wore this outfit in the show because he didn't compete in the Tournament of Elements (rather, he was what the other Ninja were competing for). But it's neat to fill that void in the sets.
The new Samurai-X doesn't fill as obvious a void, looking largely like a blend of the 2012 and 2015 versions of the character, but since there have been so many fewer Nya minifigures than the other Ninja, getting another is still a treat. This is actually one of four new Nya designs this year alone!
The two sky pirate foot soldiers are the best army building fodder in this pack. They both feel fairly authentic to sky pirates that have appeared in the show, and their lack of futuristic armor might make them a good fit even for a more traditional pirate crew!
The weapon selection in this set is nothing extraordinary, but I still think the weapons are good choices for the characters. I like Samurai-X's naginata especially, since it is basically a recolor of a weapon from #9566, which in turn took cues from her classic daggers in #2507 and #2172! She's never used weapons resembling these ones in the show as far as I can remember, but I still like seeing this sort of design continuity in the sets.
Battle packs like this usually aren't too great a value (RRP in the U.S. tends to be $14.99, or $3.75 per figure), but that's because usually they're made up in whole or in part by generic figs you can also find in other sets. Last year's #851342 stood out just for having TWO unique ghost figs and two generic ninja. But this new battle pack contains four unique minifigures, so it's less like a City Starter Set or Star Wars battle pack with a higher cost and only a fraction of the bricks, and more like a pack of four CMFs. So the price feels a lot more fair for this pack than it normally does. I hope that's a sign of things to come in other themes as well!
Does anyone know in what format the new Cole "polybag" #5004393-1 is being released, and where it is / will be available? Is it a magazine release?
Thanks...
HelloBricks.com says it will be available as part of an promotion at JouéClub toy stores in France, but I'm sure it will be getting a wider release than that. If I had to guess I'd say it's probably going to be a LEGO Brand Retail promotion.
The ninja were previously seen in these costumes in a couple leaked screencaps from a future episode of the show.
I do think it's a little disappointing that despite finally bringing copper back for next year's sets, they didn't take advantage of that opportunity to add a giant copper penny to the new Batcave. :P
Also, the sets are beginning to show up at Target stores in the United States. legozebra from Eurobricks has posted a pretty great pictorial review of #70627 Dragon's Forge, and Jangbricks has likewise posted an excellent video review. That's probably the single most exciting 2017 set for me so far! It's a beautiful set with lots of display value and playability, and at $79.99 for 1137 pieces it's an amazingly good value!
I would imagine they're still completing some of the final rendering - after all, if the series doesn't start until next year there's still time for final tweaks and effect adding before doing a final render.

(sorry @Huw i don't remember the set numbers now.)
I guess thinking about it a second time, TLM made sense cause the movie was out by then, and it'll make sense for TLBM too. But since the movie and probably no teasers will be out by NTF I don't think we'll see anything for Ninjago.
Maybe a blank red ? box for the minifigures series.. even then..
A certain amount of secrecy is to be expected, as always, but the Toy Fairs exist specifically for retailers to get an idea of what sets would be coming out over the course of the coming year. It would make zero sense for Lego to keep the Toy Fair attendees completely in the dark about what's in store for one of their biggest themes. Remember, this isn't like other movie licenses where Lego is under duress not to reveal any spoilers ahead of time. This is a movie where Lego and Warner Bros. are equal partners in development and promotion, and as such unlike things like Super Heroes or Star Wars sets based on externally-produced movies, Lego isn't going to be beholden to any sort of NDA that would prevent them from making a big deal of such a huge media tie-in.
