It's really nice, thanks for pointing it out!
;)
My parents will be arriving from Ireland in a few hours for their annual visit, which means I won't have to cook for ten days ;-)
And my 17 year old son might even sway himself into having a few friendly & fun conversations with the grandparents around, a nice little added bonus!
Bring it on!
Let me say that to you again. No way is it your fault. In any way, shape or form. Your parents, like many couples, might have arguments about money, and if those arguments discuss any surgeries, remember that the issue is just money. Not you. Not the surgery. Just money. Bottom line is they wanted you well, that's why you had surgery.
My own son had brain surgery when he was 21 months old. Money has been an issue in our house ever since, as his disabilities before and after led me to a descision to retire early and not continue with my career, which I had some success in. I've also lost a home, filed for a bankruptcy, struggled with issues of feeling like a failure as a Dad and man, and was separated briefly two years ago because things got so bad. Yet I've always known that despite the issues between my wife and myself I've always felt love for my children just as I know my wife feels love for my children.
The stresses of life can just get so...complicated between people. I can't, I wouldn't...sugar coat it for you, things might be difficult for you on the road ahead, but there is absolutely positively nothing wrong with you, and certainly nothing wrong with you reaching out to a community where you feel connected for reassurance and warmth. Apologies should never be necessary. Certainly not to me.
I don't know you, but I wish you well and if you ever want to talk, send me a message. I'm a great listener.
@LostInTranslation
since I work at a library I find it odd to see DVD cases without our markings. I'm visualizing the genre stickers. Those would have blue COM (comedy) or pink FAM (family). My example pic is green DRA (drama) - http://www.mediafire.com/view/bbg372bne58tpyq/
Also, in the US, ratings are on the back of the case near the bottom rather than on the spine
I would have been happy with receiving it in a padded envelope instead, but it seems Kuehne+Nagel/DHL doesn't have any padded envelopes in their warehouse, only oversized boxes. And airbags. Lots of airbags :)
Trouble is it's the only size they've got, the Disney Castle would have been in the same box. ;)
But yes, it seems they only have 3 box sizes:
- medium (wouldn't call the one pictured above small; there's about a dozen smaller box sizes)
- large (used for sets that could fit in the smaller version, but then the 15+ airbags they want to add wouldn't fit)
- oversized (fits 2x 4000 pieces sets with still space for 30 airbags, or 1x a 2000 pieces set + 75 airbags)
Having a limited number of box sizes but a mountain of airbags must work out cheaper/more efficient for them./rant about first-world problem (well, not even a problem) over ;)
When we complain about too much packaging companies revert to plastic bags instead of boxes and we all know how that often turns out. :o)
...the bad news is for my wallet. After watching this movie I'm more keen on purchasing the #75827 - Firehouse Headquarters, it would be a fine addition to my collection.
I say that's the price you have to pay for not watching the movie sooner ;-)
Your stories and and everyone's support really made me feel better. I was really touched in knowing that there are people who are willing to reach out and share their experiences and give support even tough we are just a LEGO Fourm.
As a word of caution, if you do not want to read anything that might make your day worse or just aren't interested, you can just skip these paragraphs until you see the smiley faces in the beginning of the paragraph. :D
To start of and clarify things, what happened was when I went home yesterday, I started hearing my parents arguing. It first started of about two months ago, but then started progressing. Our family has been losing a lot of money because of multiple things. First, my Dad hurt his foot and was diagnosed with Gout. It cost a lot to fix and took a while until he could start walking like normal.
Then, I got injured by dislocating my kneecap. At that time, we didn't know a lot, so my parents just took me to the hospital. There, I was given crutches and was back to normal in two months.
After that, my Dad had broken the news to my Mom that his company that he was working for would be diminished. From there we lost a lot of money. I actually injured my other kneecap again and by then, everything fell apart.
My parents had a discussion about how we could get more money again and what would happen to the future. These discussions were then frequent and turned into debates. Fast forwarding, my parents got really mad at each other.
Now, I may have written this unclear in my last post, but some people might've interpreted that my parents called for divorce. I'm very sorry if you misunderstood what I wrote or that I didn't say it clearly. My parents have just been talking a bit about if they were going to divorce, not officially.
It has just been hard in my family and reading all these LEGO posts and discussions have let me drift my mind away and enjoy a bit of what's left. I have been fealing a bit better and again am really thankful for you to open up your story. I hope you understand what I have written. Now to something related to LEGO.
:D To get my mind away from what has been going on, I have been building a TMNT set that I have held for a long time.
Again thank you everyone for all the loving care. I truly wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Cowabunga!
Austin :D
P.S: I just realized this is my 100 post.
A screenshot image as below, as not sure how to post video here.

Speaking of Target, they also use huge boxes with tons of airbags.
The others are a second banana guy (I mean, he's my second CMF with a banana suit; I don't think he's specifically intended to be a Second Banana :P), a second Rogue, who'll be good for my medieval/fantasy scenes, and the Desert Warrior, who I've been wanting to get for ages. :)
Bit frustrating still not to have found the Spooky Boy, but I'll either trade for some in the new year or buy a bunch of the heads on Bricklink (still thinking about my custom Vampire Chronicles figures)...

After (ice fishing):
The full scene (the ones at the back are SW ones)

it make for Quite the display all them Ninjago Skybound sets.
and Misfortune's Keep was a fun if a little tricky build.
moved the christmas display to the living room. next to the christmas tree.
played Nexo Knights Game on my new Fire Tablet. it is a nice game when it's not crashing because your ipad 2 (2011) has run out of free system ram, and dump's the open program with out telling you why. i love my ipad but some time apple mass up big time. the only system to block games that will not work on older ipad is the apple OS. and a ipad 2 can be updated still. so you can download a game or app and you only know that it's to new to work on a ipad 2 when it crash's on you.
ipad 2 rant over now. back to lego.
i plan to post a pick of my Christmas Lego haul on here on christmas day. but we will wait and see if i remember to do so.
i now have a Amazon Fire tablet. and would like to know what is the best app to use to view info on Brickset. the app made just to view info. not loading up a webpage.
^^ Oh no! What's wrong @Legoboy?
Many more of these and you will have a wing in the hospital named after you. ;)
Hope the recovery is swift and that you are well enough to enjoy yourself over Christmas.
@MaffyD
Glad your getting back to normality after your op.
(and I'm not really posting, this is all a figment of you imagination).
SKOOLZ OWT!!!
Finished work now until 2nd January :-)
Will hopefully find time to rearrange the man-cave a bit and get stuck into Palace Cinema - another set that's been waiting over 3 years to be built!
