I've noticed that technic sets have low part out values, but it could theoretically work. I do well enough with technic parts from regular sets. Constraction parts can be harder to move.

I do, I find the newer sets have parts that sell very well, but you will have millions of connectors etc that may sit around for years. Easy to part out as they have relatively less lots / set for the size and no minifigures to worry about.

I need to order roughly 10,000 points- Mostly bland colors: Light bluish and dark bluish grays and white (no yellowing!).

I'd love to support some Bricksetter stores- Anyone have a vast abundance of parts in these colors? Any bone you can throw me is also appreciated ;)

Don't give the separators away. Sell them. Price them low enough and if you have decent quantity people will purchase them and may also add to the order with other items.

A couple of times a year, I always look out for a seller with 20+ of them for about 5p each. They are great for party bags for a kid's party. And if I'm placing an order anyway, I normally supplement the order with way more bricks I need too.

I want to refer back to the master list, but it's rather large and cumbersome to get through to find stores that have large amounts of pieces. So I was hoping to narrow it down a bit.

I am currently selling a few complete sets of collectible minifgures along with other items. The sets contains all 16 Minifigures (18 for the Disney series). All Minifigures include original packaging, all accessories, stand and character sheet. Each Minifigure has been opened to verify packaged contents and immediately packed into Ziploc's. I don't think I've ever seen people sell LDD files. It's normally kits or PDF instructions.

As a trend, I am noticing I very rarely find any UK sellers anywhere near the most competitive on just about any item. Nearly always USA or continental Europe have several cheaper listings before I come to a UK seller. I have now taken to almost always importing stuff as it's simply cheaper even with postage.

I guess that's what you're going to have to do: sit on them for a long time.

Interesting point. At least they're easier to ship/store than instructions and boxes, eventually I decided to just recycle those.

Applying stickers and selling parts seems too difficult - I only do that when I'm breaking up the sticker sheet to build some of the set myself.

Would you say that UK sellers are pricing things too high (above average) or that other sellers are selling stuff cheap?

It's a volume thing, big sellers can afford to give away a bit of their margin in exchange for more volume.
Maybe there aren't any sellers in the UK that are big enough to be able to lower the prices to compete with the biggest sellers worldwide.

As a small store I'm subjected to that reality. Even at 5% below average there are a whole lot of other stores that are cheaper for any given part.
The solution might be trying to compete in variety, although that brings its own set of problems.

Running a BrickLink store can be quite tricky...

After about 7 months of BrickLink I've sold a total of 2 sticker sheets.
But that's fine, because they're easy to store.

Now, instructions and boxes go right into the recycling bin, or used as packaging (bunched up sheets torn from instruction manuals work well as padding).

Hey all, I'm new to Brickset, but I've been selling on Bricklink for years. How do you guys go about customers complaining about the quality of used parts? I'm almost ready to give up selling used because of dealing with the headaches.

I've screened all my used parts for teeth marks and obvious damage, but I still get complaints on occasion about abrasions, scratches, etc. When I buy used, I always buy extra to compensate for the parts I won't use, and I rarely say anything to the seller...even in regards to teeth marks. The used parts I've listed in the past were for variety and rarity. Maybe I should just remove the common items and colors.

Recently, I had somebody even question scratches on new parts and demanded a refund. Only way I can figure those scratches happen is in the sorting and picking process. I should probably just refund and move on, but this one is really bothering me for some reason.

There are plenty of big UK stores. They don't reduce prices to compete with German or US stores because often they don't need to. Some UK buyers sometimes find it cheaper to import from Germany (me included), but that doesn't mean the UK seller won't sell at their price.

What do I do with jerks like that? Try to avoid them. If not, and they complain, respond cheerfully. Nothing to gain by being rude. Tell them that these parts have traveled hundreds, if not thousands, of miles to get to him, while rubbing/bouncing off each other that whole time. If he persists, tell him to send you a picture of the damage.

I know dealing with buyers is rough, even more so responding calmly.

I have a question for other sellers. What do you use for shipping boxes, specifically small ones. I mainly reuse boxes that are send to me, but sometimes those run low.

@SprinkleOtter you just got one of mine :)

For First Class, I use Aviditi 7x5x2 (like the one I sent you recently) and 5x4x2 both can have a printed label. I also use the 3x3x1 for expensive minifigs and that goes into a mailer.

Those are small, convenient but a tad expensive. Pratt 9x6x3 are much cheaper, but larger and heavier.

I reuse as many boxes as I can, but for bigger boxes (20x16x4 and 24x20x6) I buy Uline boxes, for smaller boxes I usually get them from Staples when they have a good sale on shipping supplies which is usually a couple times a year and I think like 40% or more off. I buy a couple sizes one of which is 6x6x6. I also try to use the free USPS priority boxes as much as possible since for me most orders USPS Priority is the cheapest option and the materials are free.

I pretty much use bubble mailers unless a box is the only option. In that case, i reuse something I have or go the free USPS priority route. USPS priority bubble mailers are also free but you have to order them to ship free to your address.

As for bubble mailers, I'm going to try out sunuku which I saw mentioned here.

Tricky is right, based on the fairly poor data on sales available on BL you could still spent quite a lot of time trying to price "right" and still get nowhere.

At 5% off I would not sell enough to make it worth my while, I am usually nearer 20% below six month average - which is too cheap medium to long term but I will live with it while I build the store and increase stock, should be at the quarter million mark this month, but hopefully will make the million in the next year or so. When you start to get to that size and have a greater variety of parts and parts in greater quantities I believe you can charge higher prices.

Running a bricklink store is a lot harder work for less return than a lot of people think!

Exactly.
I do use crumpled paper for packaging sometimes, but hadn't thought of instruction books as a source thereof. It can be annoying to crumple and adds a relatively large amount of weight. I saved styrofoam pellets (packing peanuts) I got from something else.

I haven't had any complaints about part condition, but I'm cautious in descriptions. My splash page includes "New parts are fresh from various sets, but might have minimal handling wear." but unreasonable buyers might ignore or not read that.

Sometimes I've had to suck it up about refunds for a few parts reported missing (which could actually happen); yours sounds like a similar problem.

I almost always use bubblemailers or USPS flatrate boxes. Otherwise, it can be hard to find boxes small enough that are durable enough for mailing. Sometimes I have to buy those or other rarely used supplies in small quantities at retail.

I got 250 #0 from Sunuku last June and still have a few dozen left. I'll reorder and get some other sizes once I have spare money and post-holiday LEGO clearance is done.

I have come to the conclusion that a lot of bricklink stores are actually quite unprofessional and poorly run. I suspect this is the case as they are often hobby side endeavours, not actual businesses. I have written to a good few stores this week as I chase a couple of sets, and honestly you are lucky if people respond inside 48 hours.

Recently added minifigs and extra parts from #75149, another #10722, 4 Penguin and 2 Babysitter.
Reorganized my CMF inventory. Lowered Penguin from $5.99 to $5.49. Got rid of packaging, opened sealed, bagged multiple quantities together like I was already doing for other items. Saves space

Did a lot of part sorting in addition to what was needed to fill current orders; I often fall behind on that.

We keep the yellow Minifigures to give them away to kids (birthdays...) and we also keep green plants and other "cool" parts. We are up to 60.000 parts now and my goal this year ist to get it up to 100.000 parts and stay there. Sorting Lego is something I enjoy and I cannot just sit infront of the TV and watch, I always have Lego somewhere nearby. And opening the store was perfect to get rid of all the sorted bricks :-)

I think variety and volume are key although feedback may also help. In the past four months I've gone from around 8000 to 25000 parts. I'm going on the store views / sales ratio as a judge of whether it's working. For a long time I had one sale per forty views but this has changed to one in thirty over the past two months (feedback has risen from about 25 to 80 in the same period). I'm tempted to stop bothering with many used items as basic bricks rarely seem to sell unless they're new (and they take up space). I'm not sure about pricing to the average. When I looked at this in more detail I thought that 20% below the average was needed to achieve decent visibility in the price guide. That said I've had some of the best sales prices in Sweden for certain parts since my variety/volume increased so I'm starting to worry less about being the cheapest.

As a buyer from the UK / Sweden I learnt to look overseas fairly early on. Hungary, Germany and the Czech Republic have all been good for postage for larger orders. Even the US was relatively cheap for one order as it was for several of a very lightweight, expensive piece.

I recently passed 40,000 pieces worth $7,000.

The 33 other CMF's are:
4 Ice Queen - one was missing the tiara, couldn't find it with the packaging, so I listed some of the other parts. Also listed some Wilflife phtographer parts I got elsewhere.

Already had some in inventory and reduced from 3.99 to 3.49 - 6 Arabian Knight, 6 Spooky Boy, 2 Kickboxer, 2 Cyborg, Spy

@the1whitetiger I do part out sets where I'm keeping some of the pieces, but only because I'm running a store anyway, for me sets I want some of wouldn't be enough volume in and of itself.
