1) where is the seller/buyer from? In metro Detroit, I would avoid Inkster (this location), Garden City, most zip codes in the 'hoods of Detroit, Highland Park, and a few other select places.
2) depending what you are selling/buying... I would meet in a public place... a gas station, or a fruit market, etc.
3) if it's someone who lives nearby, I get their phone # and call them to verify, and if it is a cheap transaction, I will sell from my front porch... if it's costlier, I use a public place as mentioned above.
4) NEVER let someone enter your house, or you enter theirs.
5) always a cash transaction.

But what if the seller has over 400lbs of bricks (literally a pickup truckload)?

I must say I disagree with the above in some cases. I feel it is more important to make sure the house is in a good neighborhood, have someone with you, and let others know where you are going to be.

If you have $400 lb of LEGO, I would think that Craigslist would be among the worst places to sell it, unless it's just bulk bricks in common colors. Online might be better. And if you don't know the area you are going... then you really shouldn't be going there (I covered much of that in item 1 above). And if you have expensive items, then different rules should apply as well.

I've sold the same guy from 30 miles away... unused concert tickets at a halfway between us gas station location on 3 different occasions for the same guy. And I sold an elderly lady a poster at a fruit market parking lot.

Not everything should be done via Craigslist, and not all scenarios fit the same set of rules. I was just giving some general rules of caution.

Maybe it's just a totally different culture (here in Australia) or just the passage of time...I vividly remember buying my first semi automatic rifle (back when they were legal) of a guy out in the middle of nowhere, a couple of grand in my back pocket, nobody knowing where I was and without a care in the world as to my personal safety. The only thing that stops me these days from inviting any Tom, Dick or Harry over to pick up Lego sets is fear of later burglary. I couldn't imagine being concerned about a purchase though (particularly something as mundane as plastic bricks!). Maybe I DO live in the lucky country...

Samsung is wonderful. High quality product and responsive customer service. But, they are sending me a totally useless FitBit thingy, and a memory card that isn'the compatible with my phone...

Yeah but you can redily buy the unopened, factory-sealed polybag for a fraction of the price of this one that's been opened and put in a ridiculous plastic case with a rating that says it's almost as good as new. Bonkers.

I don't usually leave sets unopened but there's a few exceptions. Sometimes I'll buy sets when I can get them at a good price to store away to a bad day. It's nice to have them. I also don't plan on building any UCS sets I get, not because I intend to resell but because I don't have any place to set up numerous overly large sets without covering them in dust which is not something I want to do.
