Someone else here on the forum said it would be nice if Lego would sell a "living room" set or "office set" add-on in a polybag to give the option of making these buildings more detailed. I think it's a great idea.
They already did! Many of the small Friends sets are basically furnitures, plus can also look at the Friends & City Advent sets.

I would also classify the Ideas Big Bang Theory set as a furniture set with many minifigures :)

^Yeah, I want to fill up my Modular Buildings with bright pink couches and purple chairs.

The friends sets do provide excellent templates for furniture. It's not too difficult to use the instructions and either brick link or use existing stock for more appropriate color schemes.

My son's version made from two sets and about 12 other pieces he had.
    Really like your MOC!

Is it possible that you can share more pictures to try and replicate your MOC?

    Thanks!

This month's Blocks mag (which I was amazed to see for sale in Sainsburys!) had a nice article on making a modular deli out of three of these (and a list of the extra bits that were used - mainly pavement tiles) - I appreciate that this thread has recently been resuscitated but seems rather timely!  To be fair I wish that these had been the sorts of articles in the magazine when I was a subscriber, it's the sort of thing that would tempt me back!

i would like to think that it was this post that started the idea of making a modular from 3x Deli's came from some one reading this post.
and i have to say for the 1st time i may pick up blocks this month.

my plan's are on hole for now.
until i can find this set on a offer. any offer at this point (£24.99) is not a offer. it been that price for so long that at this point it may as well be it RRP.

however the idea of picking up 4 of this set dose sound good to me.

I got mine on Amazon for $30 USD a piece which wasn't terrible. I ended up getting 4 sets and I've used 3 so far to do what I did.

Here is a second update gallery link: http://imgur.com/gallery/bFwvo

I worked with @chrisalddin and got some of his plan ideas and integrated them in with my design. I couldn't have done any of these updates without his work and ideas that you've all been seeing the updates on here. Really clever workmanship and it was a blast to build and adapt the ideas in.

I took his footprints, but expanded the height on the second floor to include the stone decorative window bay I had prior, changed the first floor front to include the expanded order window I had before. Additionally I added a trim detail on the first floor to break up the levels a bit more and added another red/white awning on the back for the same reason.

I adapted his staircase which is a huge win vs the ladder system from before. As it's using the roof accent pieces to make the steps I added plates to help strengthen and connect them and they were a bit wobbly before that.

Took and integrated in my interior details and some roof designs.

Still more tinkering to do, but I like the direction it's moving in.

Here is a taste from the gallery.

    look's good.
    good work that AFoL.

Looking good! I recently turned the Creator Bike Shop and cafe into modulars, and if I can find some good deals on this set I'll do the same. I really like the colors of the walls included in this set -great for some nice variety.

    been rethinking this idea.
when i 1st come up with it, i did not have mass of spare parts to full back on,
    now,.. well now i do.
i think i may try to build a 32x32 corner Modular for this set.
still going to need 3 maybe 4 copy's.
only thing is. i only have a spare 32x32 red plate.
dont know it that will work or not.
there is also that little nag of Finding any for under £20. each.

Are there people here who made a modular out of other sets apart from the three in one builds (for example Medieval Market Village, Diagon Alley ...) ?

I made the black/dark green Diagon Alley building into a 16x32 modular a few years ago. It is a little too dark and could use some lighter highlights. I will probably rework it one day but that is on the furthest of the back burners.

It is only 2 stories so it is smaller then the other modulars, but how he has it displayed next to the detective office set it kinda works since the buildings then all "step" down.

Honest.....out of place/scale.   Need to double existing size to compete with the modulars.
I know this is way late to the party, but to me? This looks much more realistic as far as the way buildings are radically different in size on a city street. The height of the building doesn't bother me, just needs some detailing and thematic elements...you know, that "story aspect" that the modulars have. But it is a cool start.

Right i now have my 3 Copy's of Deli. and my plans have changed.
when i 1st come up with the idea, i did not have a lot (if any) spare parts.
i do now i have a hole load of spare parts and part from pick a brick wall.

so i going to try and build a True modular Corner Deli. on a 32x32 plate.
will have to be a red plate as that all i have.

but 1st i have to understand the build and the part's i will have to work with.
this is going to take a long time.
good thing i got the Hole day to mess around with this plan :)

Walmart.com has the Deli for under $30 if that helps those looking two buy a few.

Looking good! Enjoying the big windows and symmetrical shape. I have tried something similar, but I kept the little alleyway on the side so they could roll bikes to the service entrance.

@wardm looking good! I would try getting another set to make the building a bit bigger.
  • blogzillyblogzilly Member Posts: 598
@wardm, both sets are cool, but I would love to see them next to existing Modular sets or MOC Modulars, to better judge the exterior details and size. But they are pretty neat. I might have to try one since Corner Deli is a great price at the moment.

    @CaptainRogers @josekalel @blogzilly thanks for the feedback!
it's the same height as Pet Shop though, so I don't feel the need to make it bigger. I'll make a picture combined with pet shop when I'm able to!

"Accidentally". "For a friend". Uhuh ;)

One-up everybody here and create a way larger Corner Deli than the ones posted here so far?

What would you do if you accidentally ordered 8 corner deli sets? Asking for a friend.
Tell your "friend", why not go for a nice round 10?

@wardm As I mentioned on another thread, I built #31036 next to Palace Cinema yesterday...as I was laying in bed ready to go to sleep, I saw both sets side by side (they're on top of my dresser) and realized how small the set it...that's when it clicked, I need two sets to make a 'decent' modular out of a regular Creator set. Ugh.

@Briking looks good so far! It'd be awesome if you keep us updated on the progres.
meanwhile I've "completed" the café part from the bike shop+cafe set. They're both about the same height as the pet shop set, but they look rather small next to my (blue) green grocer.
what do you guys think? Things I should change?

I think they look good next to the green grocer. The green grocer comes across as a rather grand building and the bike shop and cafe more modest ones. But that's what a lot of streets are like, which different styles and sizes of buildings next to each other. So it ads realism!

@wardm It is looking really good, the only thing you might look into is to 'expand' the third floor, I think that's what makes the others look a bit taller.

@wardm I wouldn't change a thing. Building heights being different is great.

@Briking  I like the start of it, especially the fact that you are making it a corner 'Cornet Deli'. The only thing design wise that is sort of abrupt to me is the color change to dark bluish gray right at the top to the upper window panes. My minds eye wants to see a single brick line of color going across that space. Whether or not that raises the ceiling height of the first floor would be a judgment call, but that was the only thing that jumped out at me.

Then again, if your goal is to mimic the Creator set as closely as possible, ignore what I just wrote! ;)

@Briking btw I love that Blue Grocer...how did you choose the colors?

And now with a roof.  Interiors, balcony window glass and grilles for the drains still outstanding. Not the worst thing I ever built!

The one thing that annoys me is the blank canvas above the entrance door to the flat.  Feels like it needs some sort of detailing, but I can't think of what.

How would it look if you moved the two windows above the flat door and centralised them on the wall, so you didn't have the blank space above the door? It would mean the internal wall above the stairs would nee to be reduced in height or even adjusted so their is some floor immediately above the door to the flat? Do I make sense?

@Briking I was about to buy another Corner Deli (so that I would have two in total) to try to do what you did...then I realized you said you had FOUR and I stalled haha...but I really wanna try your model but tweaking it a bit.
  • BrikingBriking Member Posts: 768
@RogerKirk I thought about that, but for now I have a wall on the first floor separating the flat from the stair well, so the wall would be in the middle of the window.  I was wondering about an extra small window above the stairs, but there would be no symmetry.  Thinks it needs more interesting.  Maybe a DELI sign, like there was on CC and PC?

@josekalel I had a lot of blue bricks that needed using.  What you get in four sets would probably be better suited to a 16x32 baseplate.  Alternatively, use another colour for the "hidden" walls.
