    I particularly like the reindeer car and present car. The stockings on the side of it are fun, The hot cocoa car is such a cool ( or should I say hot) idea.

    That's excellent. The Hot Cocoa Tanker especially is an inspired idea!

    I sort of wish the Santa chair rotated too. Maybe the Grinch in me wants to see him fly off at high speeds.

    @Mouseketeer - that is fantastic and very well done to keep to the Winter Village theme.

    I'm planning to try and extend mine, but I know it won't be half as good as that.

    It's disappeared from my watch list on eBay.
    shame as this was just what I was after as it was instructions and piece list for Bricklink too.

    Clearly, a lot of hard work and thought must have gone into this build so I was prepared to buy the information.

    It's hard to say exactly because I had some of the pieces in my collection already, but I paid roughly £80 so the full build would be a bit more. There are around 800 pieces.

    Not sure if I can guess a cost, but the passenger carriage is 242 pieces, none of which are hard to get (perhaps maybe the white leaves because they're new?). The files on eBay split the wagons up all individually, so you can easily upload just one wagon to Bricklink and leave the rest.

    Those extra wagons look glorious @Mouseketeer! I was on the fence about getting this train, but now that I have purchased your instructions I guess I will have to buy it :)

    Would it make sense procuring a second train set to build those extra cars, or would that be a waste? :) I have no train-related spare parts, and I don't think I have much else that I would need just lying around...

    I'd actually expected to buy a second train set, but once I'd made the model digitally I quickly realised it isn't actually worth it. There are very few pieces that can be reused aside from the caboose (maybe the wheels and couplings too?), so unless you can maybe sell on the other carriages it makes more sense to Bricklink all the parts.

    Yep.  Pretty easy.  Just do a find/replace for MINQTY to QTY in the XML and it will import to BrickStock correctly.  

    You will want to get those 6 x 16 Red Plates on BrickLink quickly.  Last released in 2009 and the inventory of really cheap new ones is rather small (especially if you aren't buying bulk).

    I was also pleased with the way the price worked out.  It is awesome to get a design that isn't packed full of rare or limited parts.  I'm in it for about $60 including shipping for the tree hopper, cocoa car, reindeer car, and some extra reindeer.  Full disclosure - I already have train wheels and procured about $20 inventory from my own store.

    Quick question. This is my first lego train and after building it I am now thinking of adding power functions to it. The only thing I have is the #88000 (battery box) so I would have to get everything else. Is the #8879 (remote control) absolutely essential? Can I just turn it on and off from the battery box. 

    Sorry I am a neophyte in this area.

    You can connect the train motor directly to the battery, skipping the IR receiver and remote, then just use the power button on the battery to switch it on and off. The only drawback is that you won't be able to control the speed so it will bomb round the track at full pelt...

    Good point, I can't believe I forgot that - though if the object is to save money, that battery and accompanying charger come to £62ish...

    But the battery/charger combo depends on how many batteries you're using, how often you're using them.... etc. etc.

    Yup, I once ran a normal battery box in a train at a show, and I went through 24 AAA batteries (Duracell ones!) in a single weekend.

    I've used the rechargable battery boxes ever since.

    Alright, thanks for the input! I was indeed thinking couplings, blue roof pieces, etc. Also still want to extend the locomotive to the nice build that was presented a while back in this thread, so I'd need more green parts and more of those red train wheels as well. I'll go buy the instructions and see what I can recover :)

    Not a fan of this,the scale also looks a bit off when compared to the other wv sets. If you make a wv display with this then the train will look to large?

    A few people have mentioned having to put rubber bands on the driving wheels to stop them from slipping, when using power functions. Are these Lego rubber bands that are made to be exactly the right size? If so, which ones are they please? Bricklink shows the most recent ones as being made in 2001. If not, do we just have to find any rubber band that seems to fit? 
    --obviously a train newbie but learning as fast as I can!

    Bricklink has as x37, all the recent ones have been in red, as it happens.  These should fit the big drive wheels

    I'm guessing you've never put a train next to a house (or a bakery, or a post office) then?

    I think they are mentioned in the READ ME.txt file, aren't they? Also some other parts that I guess were not available in LDD (and the part lists) are also given in the text file.

    Flurry of questions incoming: Has anyone who's built Mouseketeer's additional cars used Power Functions?  How many cars can the train motor pull?  Are any of the parts particularly rare or expensive?  Thanks!

    Looks amazing by the way!  I'm glad they listed the parts for the cars separately.  I'll probably be picking up the instructions soon.
