@KingAlanI, safest to do that without logging in, especially if you are using US$ for your store as you will get the same figures whether logged in or not. What you don't get that I find very handy is how many new lots the set will add to your store.

If you just want the total part out value the easier way is to go to the price guide link and put the set number in on the right box.  Then it doesn't go through all the parts list and verify etc.

    http://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp

And if you accidentally add it to inventory, just go to the page to part out another one and on the first page you can set the quantity of the sets you are parting out.  Set it to -1 instead of 1 and go through the rest.  It should then just subtract the parts that were added.

I hadn't thought of that. Still, when I try to go directly to that page ( http://www.bricklink.com/invSet.asp ) I get redirected to login. Are you following another link?

Target had sterilite tubs on sale recently; I got a lot of my inventory into those.

@brumey I leave feedback ASAP after payment and some buyers don't do so after they receive. My feedback score is 149 now, but this is sitll frustrating.

Hey, everybody. I just found a real jerk of a buyer who I advise you block.
His order was delayed slightly (which my splash page says). Then he left neutral feedback, and when I offered him a partial refund to change it, he wants a 50% refund.

I have a question for other BL sellers- what do you use for international insurance?
I usually use insurepost, but it turns out they don't cover shipments to India.
  • ColoradoBricksColoradoBricks Member Posts: 1,659
I use insurepost and limit countries I ship to to those covered by insurepost. If I make an exception and ship to countries not covered by insurepost I ship UPS or Fedex (or USPS Priority Mail Express).

    I just don't offer insurance.

I've added a lot of CMF S16 lately - especially Penguin Boy, Banana Guy and Babysitter. Also 14 #75132 First Order Battle Pack (have at it, Syar Wars army builders) and a few other things.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
I use u-pic.com when international insurance is requested.  I've never had to file a claim so no idea on how good their service is, but it looks like they do India.

Question for other sellers.  I have a buyer who paid via PayPal without a shipping address but just put it in the comments.  It looks to be one of those aggregator type businesses that gives foreign buyers a US address.

For now I've refunded the buyer and asked him or her to resubmit with a verified PayPal address.  My question is am I being overly harsh you think?  It is a relatively large (for me) order so I don't want to be out since I would not be covered under seller protection.  Plus since there is no shipping address I would lose any PayPal shipping discount and have to pay full retail when I already gave the buyer free shipping.

    Thanks for the feedback all.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
It isn't unreasonable to want a verified shipping address.  Personally I've never had trouble with the freight forwarding addresses, but the person should be able to put that in paypal as their address, or at least all of the ones I've shipped to have had it as a verified address.

On the paypal shipping issue: you can ship using paypal without having a payment to click the "create label" through by using this link

    https://www.paypal.com/shiplabel/create/

Not sure how you get to it from the menus.  It might be intentionally hidden, but I've shipped that way a lot.
  • ColoradoBricksColoradoBricks Member Posts: 1,659
If your buyer paid with PayPal On Site, they can not put a new address when checking out, only "regular" PayPal allows it.

I shipped multiple order to forwarding companies, but all of them were to the PayPal address. I also allow Canadian buyers to use an non confirmed US address if they have good feedback and never had an issue.

The link I have for PayPal labels without payment is https://www.paypal.com/shipnow,  We each have our own sets of tricks :) I use it for all money orders and Stripe payments.

Thanks guys I was not aware of this method until now for shipping.

  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Member Posts: 2,353
I had one order where the buyer used a freight forwarder, but they did officially use the US address with PayPal.

Thanks @ColoradoBricks for the https://www.paypal.com/shipnow link. The one downside to no PP fee was not getting the discount and convenience of printing a label. It was still worth it, but this gives me the best of both worlds.

Streamlined the store, removed all fees, simplified shipping inc. much cheaper international rates and added thousands more elements! (Still not quite caught up with adding to inventory though!)

Have a look and let me know what you think and take a 5% discount for any order placed before the end of the month as a thank you! (Mention brickset in the order comments)

I have two ARK-170s for sale all year, with no interest. Now I'ev sold both in two days. Why the sudden interest?

  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Member Posts: 2,353
Heh, 2 #75072 (the ARC-170 microfighter) was one of my first BrickLink sales. Sometimes it takes awhile to get a bite. I don't want to scare off people with high prices, but I don't want to undercut myself rushing to get a sale. It can take a long time to build up enough inventory to interest people in your store in general.

I get things like that sometimes that makes me wonder.  I parted out like 5 or 6 of the Star Wars Desert Skiff sets like 3 years ago and sold most of the major figs but still had 3 or 4 Kithaba's left.  Had 3 orders within a couple days recently that each bought one.  Just thought it was really odd after a couple years selling them that close to each other.

In general, I've sold a lot of parts, but not very many minifigures.
  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Member Posts: 2,353
I might stop selling instruction booklets. They rarely ever sell, and when they do, the weight and size increases what I have to charge for shipping. They're getting to be annoying to store. The plan is to keep them until next recycling pickup and hold into 1 of each personally.
  • DaraghDaragh Member Posts: 363
I agree, I only keep the very large ones e.g. modulars and the technic ones and haven't sold any. I hate throwing out the others but the reality is there is no point keeping them, they take up too move room, weigh a ton and are a fire hazard (I imagine). Same with boxes.

    KingAlanIkiki180703
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
I definitely don't keep boxes.  I occasionally sell instructions but it is a pain when someone orders a larger format instruction and a handful of parts together.  The instructions are so cheap but expensive to ship.  For now I'm not going to get rid of them as I have a double wide 4 drawer filing cabinet that has supplies in the top drawer and instructions in the lower ones.  If it ever starts to fill up I'll probably purge all of the < ~$50 set instructions and anything in kids themes as I don't think I've ever sold any of those.
  • KingAlanIKingAlanI Member Posts: 2,353
    @Daragh
Okay, so it's not just me.
I already stopped keeping boxes, except ones that are useful for storage. Heck, I have smaller booklets in a #10692 box, and freeing that up is part of the idea here.
I just started getting rid of booklets.
  • DaraghDaragh Member Posts: 363
@KingAlanI luckily from the start I didn't keep the booklets, if you have a load I can imagine it's hard to just dump them, but the right thing to do. I keep the smaller boxes as they are great for large parts orders. The cardboard is nice and sturdy and I think it looks good getting an order in a Lego box, wrapped of course.

You could always tear the pages out and crumple them up as packaging.

I'd recycle the pages for wrapping small gifts - I did the same with the facsimilie editions of old comics that a British newspaper gave away a few years, and people tend to really like stuff like that even if they're not an AFOL or comics collector. Actually that reminds me that I've been meaning to do the same with the 1/3-of-the-instructions for a Star Wars set that I found in a bulk lot...

    @Daragh
I figured LEGO boxes would be too flimsy for mailing. I have used regular notebook paper before. I saved some stryofoam peanuts and air filled bags. They're lighter like how bubblemailers are lighter than boxes.
Getting rid of my accumulated booklets shouldn't be too hard, it's just that I was in the middle of other things when I got the idea.

I finally made my first Bricklink order! eBay was just far too expensive for pieces now I'm a 'real' AFOL!

I too have a Bricklink store, and it's Brick Repository.
Only been at it for a few months, getting close to 50k parts which is the short term goal for the store size.
Send me a message over on Bricklink before placing an order and I'll send you a 10% coupon.

Has anyone else noticed that BL buyers seem to be getting exceptionally... whiny... lately?
I mean, neutral feedback because I didn't respond to a message I never got? Come on...
  • LuLegoLuLego Member Posts: 1,010
I used Bricklink for the very first time and gave nothing but praise for my experience. I even separately emailed the seller to thank them as I was so impressed.
Ill never be using eBay again as I'm converted!

Also cut prices on a lot of minifigures were I was already around average.

Interesting discovery made today... A complete Cafe Corner fits quite nicely in a medium flat rate box.

Also, do you all think this is enough packing noodles?

Business seems slow. Even 22K items feels like a small store. I want to add more and drop prices. Sales could be put towards more inventory.

I have 3 sealed #30350. Recent part outs include a bunch of nexo ultimates, 2 #70600, another #70324 and #75132, most non-minidoll parts of #41172 and #41124, extra parts from #41122.

I edit prices manually for more control and to avoid partial cent prices. When changing prices, I'm focusing on relatively expensive items and/or large quantities since that's more worth the trobule.

@SprinkleOtter I decided to keep lots of packing peanuts and a few cardboard boxes even though I rarely use those.

It all depends on your selection and pricing. I have a few hundred parts in my store, and I've gotten 5-6 parts orders this month.

@KingAlanI I would suggest saving the packing materials from everything you get. If you're just a parts store, then maybe saving bigger stuff won't help you, but I've saved everything I get, and never had to buy packing materials (besides tape and small bubble mailers).

@SprinkleOtterPriority Mail medium flatrate boxes are often good for orders weighing a few pounds. I do save bubblemailers I get though I also need to buy a lot more of those. I often use large bubblemailers instead of small boxes.

Hi! Idk if this is ok....let me know if it isn't!

I'm looking for 2x4 duplo bricks in any color.  My library is using them for a project.  I have purchased duplos on Brick link but would like to minimize shipping costs and buy from one store instead of multiple and haven't found a store with a larger amount.  Do any of your stores carry a larger inventory of these bricks? I would like to donate to this neat reading incentive program! Thanks!

@gobias1234 Have you tried entering a minimum quantity to your BL search? You can also sort your search results by Lowest/Highest Quantity.

A quick search seems to indicate one seller in the Czech Republic has 1500+ of these bricks in stock. Their shipping rates for large parcels, including to the US, also seem reasonable-ish.
