Putting Lego bricks together also de-stresses me, just like jigsaw puzzles do. Now, when I need to explain why I order all my jigsaw puzzles from Japan: that's a much more complicated conversation...
Honestly, everyone that sees my collection and what I have built wants to go and pull out their old LEGO and start building, so I have not really had to explain myself. I have had to explain why I willing to pay so much for that LEGO, but that is easy since most of my friends have expensive hobbies that many would not understand.
- I don't mind collating the list in the morning.
If they are more stubborn I show them pictures of some of the great MOCS people have built to show what's possible with Lego.
If they are just being ass-hats about it I just show them the DS2 & SSD UCS sets on Amazon then show them built on my coffee table and for afters show them The Millennium Falcon set & say that I haven't got round to building it yet. (They don't know that it's bricklinked, but it does stop derogatory comments). :)
If the person was mean I would ask them why they have a brick up their a**.
I would also inquire how they think collecting Lego is any different than collecting sports cards, coins, or stamps, since they are considered more adult oriented collectors' items.
This 'non-judgemental' and 'someone who accuses you' is completely contradictory, as an accusation is by definition a judgement, or at least an allegation that you are guilty of some fault, committed an offence etc.
However, my experience is that, although I am sometimes apprehensive about sharing my Lego hobby with people, no one so far (except my mom, who thinks that I have bought more than enough of that stuff; well she can sod off!) of all my friends and acquaintances, girl friends/special lady friends etc. have judged me for being a Lego fan.
And if they do; those that mind don't matter, and those that matter usually don't mind.
And otherwise I will just tell 'em to: 'get the fudge out of my house! '
