Went to get some vinegar to deodorize some smokey bricks and look what I found!

I've been trying to grab that same set in my area for less than retail, but they either haven't been marked down or were marked down and sold quickly. Nice find!

Having lived in VA for a while, I can attest that a lot of rural Wal-Marts (Appomattox, Altavista, etc) can have good deals on valuable sets that hang around a while. I've found Benny's Spaceship for $13 and that First Order Transporter pictured above for $45, among other things.

I've got most of the Lone Ranger sets, never seen the film but I really love the sets, especially the Constitution and Mine, its great they're still available dirt cheap!
I used to see them marked down in Walmart here in the US, and never thought of grabbing any (although, to be fair, they looked kinda cool).

Picked up a #75114-1 First Order Stormtrooper for $4.99 at the local Walgreens. They also had a dozen S16 minifigures, and I was able to find the Spooky Boy (for $4.49 - ouch), now I only need to find Kickboxer Girl to complete the set.

I'm hoping to hit a couple Walgreens that are way out-of-the-way to see if they have any other of the buildable figures.

^I've stopped by around 4 in my area and have only seen the Stormtrooper.

I stopped by a local Goodwill store on my way home, and found #60132 Service Station with a somewhat crushed box for $29.99.  Used a discount card to take 10% off that price.  Honestly thought I would never buy this set, due to price, but instead I bought it, due to price.  :-)

I'm so stoked just snagged me a brand new in box Ghost Buster HQ for 150.00. Found the deal off 5 mile...box is a bit bang up but for 150.00 I can't complain.

The other day I received my Lego Indiana Jones promotional sign for the total cost of £6.01 including postage.

The postage itself being 1st class tracked and signed for delivery cost the sender £6.80 After messaging the sender seeing if there would be anyway I could compensate them, they insisted that I won fair and square even admitting that they they had lost out on the auction. What a great person although I do feel kind of bad that they paid the postage which cost more than I paid for that and the item... :-D

My first brag - a new UCS Tie Fighter #75095 for $165 on Craigslist. Guy bought it for his son but son wanted a modular instead.

Not a super great find but I managed to pick up #60134 Fun in the Park off of Amazon for $32 shipped. I really wanted this one but paying $40 seemed a little to much, though I probably would have broke down anyway :)

Thank you!  After many hours of sleuthing, I managed to identify most of the 100+ bags. Tons of old sets such as #928 Galaxy Explorer and #6970 Beta I Command Base, although no set appears to be complete.

All in all, the lot yielded 13 brand-new 70- & 80-something era space men: 6 red, 4 white, 2 yellow, and 1 black. Alas no blue, but not complaining. :-)
That's still an awesome find! :-)

As a huge fan of Classic Space, I'm very jealous of all your mint minifigs! :-) Most of mine are a little worn, having been played with by an 8 - 10 year old Judge Chuck many years ago... ;-)

That means your guys got plenty of love and did some awesome exploring in their days! My guys, on the other hand...

(Having said that, I'm not sure if I have the guts to let them out of the bags myself, knowing how rare it is to find them like that these days.)

Got #75157 for 40% off at Lego store. It was already 20% off and I used a friends and family coupon (which is the first time I've seen a coupon like this).

You are absolutely right and the reason that, of all my LEGO sets, old and new, they are the ones that I will never, ever sell. Under no circumstances... :-)

Some brand new ones to add to the team would be great though! ;-)

I got a #4597, still in a sealed, albeit somewhat damaged, box for only $9.50 + shipping on EBay. The cheapest new (sealed) sets on Brick Link are around $50.

I'm not a big fan of the buildable figures in general, but I do like Captain America.

I picked up a new #70733 Blaster Bike for $9 and a new #76012 Batman: The Riddler Chase for $13.50.  I have had the Batman set on my wanted list, ever since I discovered I didn't have it.

@buildalot  The sealed classic space sets are a really nice find. When you identified them, were the older sets the ones that used the polyethylene bags (sandwich bag-type plastic)? I was pretty young when I got my first classic space sets like the Beta I, but I always thought the bags were made out of a similar plastic like they use now, although some were perforated. Just curious what you found.
  • buildalotbuildalot Pennsylvania, USAMember Posts: 31
Yes I noticed the difference in plastic types! It offered a clue when identifying the sets. The older ones come in softer, cloudier type of plastic bags with no perforation. Of the three photos I posted, the last one shows a bag from #6970 Beta 1 Command Base, which was released in 1980.

On the other hand, the bag full of red and yellow spacemen shown in the 2nd photo is from set #6930 Space Supply Station, released in 1983, and you can clearly see it came in a newer type of plastic: it's clearer, crinklier and with perforation.

Strangely enough, though, one of the four bags I found for #6970 came in the newer-type plastic bag. I don't think I misidentified it (I double checked). It could be LEGO was switching production at this time, or it could be that the original owner of this lot had multiple copies of the same set produced a year or two later. (The lot does contain multiple copies of some sets.)

With a couple of exceptions, all bags from late 1970's -- 1981 do come in the older type plastic, probably polyethylene as you said: #600 (1978), #590 (1978), #928 (1979), #6375 (1980), #6927 (1981) etc.

My willpower has evaporated as I've just ordered #60052 Cargo Train at 50% off. I really couldn't pass it up. It's my first train, mostly bought as parts for when I buy the Winter Train. We'll see if it's actually in stock (last one apparently). I've been trying to avoid buying anything before Force Friday. I've been failing miserably since I also bought Ghost Rider (45% off) and Raptor Rampage while they were on sale this weekend. Restraint? What's that? Actually I did manage to delete some other 50% things in my cart that I really didn't need. First Order Troop Transport? Bah.

    Humbug.

I didn't do anything. The guy I'm dating decided to buy it for me because he knew I liked Lego buildings. It was a bit of a shock to be honest, given the value of the set.

Possibly. I'm starting to get the hint that he's gradually losing interest. Sad but true.

^ I wonder if the site admins will let you start a "Dear Judge Chuck..." column that posts to the front page every week.

    "Dear Judge Chuck,
My wife won't let me buy any LEGO because she thinks it is getting in the way of us time. But I am trying to convince her that it actually gives us an opportunity to bond. She won't relent. I haven't bought LEGO in months! Please help me! - Brickless in Bakersfield" :)

All joking aside, I'm sorry to hear that, but I have to say that I wouldn't be thinking about spending that kind of money on someone I was losing interest in... Perhaps he's just going through a bad patch? Best of luck either way! :-)

Yeah, that was what I thought at first, but it's true anyway. He decided that he just wants to be friends, so that is that. Though I do have Big Ben now, so I guess that's something. Still, I would have preferred having someone over having a Lego set. :-P

Actually, I still like to play with my Classic Space sets now and then. Though I am more careful doing it than I used to be ;-P

By the way, one of my best finds was a 920 Rocket Launch Pad a couple of years ago on ebay. The seller hadn't written a lot about it and only uploaded a generic picture of the front of the box. Could have been a scan or just taken off the web somewhere. So not many people seemed to be interested. I won the auction for 15 Euro including postage. How surprised was I when the set arrived. In its original box (mint condition), opened but probably never built, as all the pieces were in absolute pristine condition, as was the instruction manual. That really made my day back then. :-)

@AustinPowers The space sets were for ages 6 and UP, after all! ;-)

And, yep, I love ebayers who don't know their goods. That's one reason to still shop at ebay, alongside brinklink of course... I have a script that filter out power LEGO sellers in my ebay searches.

I managed to get all this for £60 off eBay a few months ago. Some of it wasn't 100% complete but I managed to make the sets whole again at minimal cost. It was well worth it for a few of the sets; the CMF Series 1 Nurse Tile; and the Team GB Brawny Boxer alone:

Picked up an interesting CL lot yesterday.  Three bad pictures made it look like it was an XL ziploc bag full of pieces, and there were some interesting manuals pictured.  So I drove a half hour (each way) and the woman is moving out of her house and selling everything.  She takes me down to the basement and it turns out that the scale on the pictures was way off as it's a HUGE spacesaver bag full to the top with about 60 pounds plus a second half full bag with tons of boat hulls.

Sorted through most of it this morning and the boats are mostly those AWFUL pirate ships from about 15 years ago (seriously, those things were terrible!)  However, I am now flush with at least 4 of the LBG barrels so I think that is the final push I needed to commit to Cavegod's UCS AT-AT!

Plus there is a near complete Jango Fett's Slave I which is missing the figs, and I think that's a sign that I need to do a UCS Slave I in the Jango color scheme...so many projects!

    Not bad for $150!
