@JooTog that looks great! I got the Phantom a while ago on sale at Walmart (I should have gotten an extra one), but now that I have gotten into Rebels I can truly enjoy these sets more.

Found this guy at Target today. I'd previously got one as a free gift from Lego in May.

How often does Lego take old free give-away stock and turn it into a retail products months later?

It varies. I get the feeling that some LEGO Shop giveaways, particularly the ones with exclusive minifigures, are designed for that and ONLY that, whereas some of the other giveaways are just generic polybags that they then decide would make a good gift-with-purchase for that month, but might still have other plans to release.

#30278 was apparently available at Target checkouts before being used as a LEGO Shop GWP.

The short answer is that some 'exclusive' polybags are not actually exclusive.  However, most give-aways and promotional items are only available through the Lego Retail Store or S@H.

The Captain America poly was one of those rare instances where it was available at TRU, a give-away at the Lego Retail Store, and as a regular polybag at Target.  (The Olaf polybag is another example.)

Most extra Lego Store give-aways are sold at the retail store after the promotion.

ya, case in point as @lessjunkfood posted in "polys in the wild" thread, Friends #30398 is showing up at retail now
  • SumoLegoSumoLego Member Posts: 15,241
^ I still find it odd that the Lego Retail Store doesn't carry the entire catalog of polybags.

(Although, this would make the 'Polys in the Wild' thread moot.)

so after i said i was going to try and save money last night. when i was out food shopping. spotted some stacking tray's at £7.99 for 4 trays. don't know if that a good deal. or not but it one of them items that i could use but never see myself when out shopping they was £4 off. so there price before the sale was £11.99 any how. i picked up 6 of them. (that's 6x4=24 tray's)
what good about this system is that it i can have a stack of 2 or a stack of 24. :) or 3 stacks of 8.
    look's a bit like this.

anyhow don't know if it a good deal or not. but i got them now. there going to store my spear parts.

question. dose the point that i got this type of storage increase my AFOL Level?

It's hard to comment on value without knowing their size, but unless they're really tiny I'd say a tentative yes, it sounds like you got a good price for them - and where did you get them?
  • FauchFauch Member Posts: 2,711
    I see 3 trays ??

    @catwrangler
    got them from sainsbury's supermarket.

let me pull 1 set of 4 off the tower so i can get a image of it.

the Red plate in the 2nd tray down is a 4x12 if that helps.

i could not find a 100% match online image was the closes i could find.
now i see that it was no help at all. so i have spent time to get a image of the one i got.

so was it a good deal?

Thanks, @chrisalddin! Looks a good price to me, and it being Sainsbury's I'd assume the quality's decent. Might look into these...

    @catwrangler
the quality is ok. (not having ever seen one before today i don't have a benchmark to tell by.) just don't let one fall off your shopping trolley and hit the ground. it can not take a fall like that and will smash.
i am happy with them. i dont know how long there going to be on offer. but if your interested then pop in to any Sainsbury's that has a good seasonal sale's department.
my Sainsbury's is far from small. nowadays. it having been up-sized 2 years ago.
and that up-sizeing being the 3rd time that i remember (remodeling/sales floor increase) work being done to the store.

I just spent £100 on Lego from Bricklink, and bidding on a Constitution set on Ebay which aside from the main loco chassis is still in all bags!
  • FauchFauch Member Posts: 2,711
I think I got 10 similar trays for 20-25€. I think it's just large enough to fit a 32 x 48 model on the top.

  • Nothing to do with Lego. But these SpongeBob sets were half off on Target and looked really good. Wish me luck on my betrayal!

My experience with some freebie Spongebob Squarepants Mega Bloks I got at a Toys R Us event I randomly stumbled in on is that Mega Bloks color quality is way better than it was in the 90s, but its clutch power is all over the place (some pieces would not want to stay together, others were a challenge to separate). I'll be interested to hear if your experience with a larger set is the same.

^ Mine as well. I picked up two packs on the Minions CMFs (of sorts). One went together fine and the quality was pretty good. The other one was awful and barely stays together.

I also got one of those Minions CMFs and thought they were OK. Quality wise it feels below a LEGO product, and I don't think 'playability' wise it has potential.

I never normally get to these and make a decision before they're gone, but I saw the Marvel sets discounted on the front page and picked up #76048 Iron Skull Sub Attack and #76060 Doctor Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum at £18.99 each.

Free delivery if you're prepared to wait for the Strange set to be sent out in one to three months (otherwise just add a minifig to your Iron Skull order), but I've heard people here say that often Amazon fulfil those sorts of orders sooner than you're expecting... and if not, hey, if it had arrived this week I'd still have put it away for a moment when I really needed it. :)

Took advantage of Amazon UK price matching Smyths myself and ordered #76060 Dr Strange (I like the idea posted a couple of days ago of integrating it in #10232 Palace Cinema!) and Big Bang #21302. Saw the #75904 Mystery Mansion in the Lego Store today and thought it looked great (hadn't considered the Scooby-Doo sets before), so ordered that one and #75902 Mystery Machine as well.
All 4 are listed by Amazon as delivered in 1-3 months. However from previous experience I expect to receive these sometime in September, if not next week. For these things Amazon likes to underpromise, and overdeliver.

Placed an order for the Temple of Airjitzu this morning. Always liked the set and at £50 off on the Smyths website I couldn't say no!

^ Thank you for telling us about the price change for Doctor Strange - I've not been able to keep up with Brickset updates recently. One quick email to customer services and £11 will be refunded to my bank account by the end of the week (I bought it last month from Amazon after it went out of stock at Lego.com and my local Lego Retail Store).

Bought #70751 Temple of Airjitzu today. Have no interest in the Ninjago range, but always thought this set looked great. Saw it for the first time built today in the Saarbrücken Lego store, and was even more convinced that I had to have it. As is EUR30 cheaper in Germany than in the Benelux S@H (most other large exclusives are only EUR10-20 more expensive) I couldn't resist.
Had my wife sold on getting #76042-1 SHIELD Helicarrier, but for some strange reason that one is actually priced the same on pretty much all EU S@H sites, so instead of carrying such a heavy set with me, I'll just get it delivered home.

Also signed the order for the kitchen in our future new house today as well, but much more excited about getting that Temple of Airjitzu and getting the blessing to buy the SHIELD Helicarrier... And that's with me doing all the cooking (so it's not like I don't care) and getting every single gadget for the kitchen I wanted...

Shield Helicarrier, Classic 1960's Batcave, Temple of Airjutsu and Dr Strange Sanctum.
Which is far too much for one day but the bargains were too big to ignore. :)

Was all set to go get a few of the Friend's amusement park sets for my daughters 12th birthday.  She had said a few months ago she wanted them, but she didn't have them on her list.  I asked her, and she said she wasn't going to build them and wanted other stuff.  Oh, well...that was the last of the kids to fall off the wagon, lol.   Now what....I'm not building the darn things???  BTW, what is this Ulta store girls mention?

Absolutely no Legos there haha. It's hard when the kids don't share the same love for bricks anymore. The focus shifts to hair/makeup/nails/boys ugh.

As much as I want it, especially at the current Smyths price, i can't get away with the temple of airjitzu at the moment so settled for 70603 raid zeppelin instead. £5 off in sainsburys.

@SamJ - thanks for that. It's frustrating when I haven't built my own copy yet! Never mind, at least I didn't miss it completely (which would've been worse for me, at any rate)!
