Managed to drop my phone yesterday so the excess on the insurance means I won't be buying much for the rest of the month.

    well i do.
then again i may have one of the bigger lego budgets to play with.
no ware close to the budgets of the like of jangbricks on youtube.
i also try to make the best use of offers/VIP programs. i have found myself some killer deals over the last 9 months.
i always try to plan for the next buy.
however i think i need to try and save up for black Friday now.
unless there are some killer deals before then.

    Not me...

Being a reseller really alters the dynamic. For example, I don't normally spend anything on LEGO sets, until I find them on sale or there is a good promo. But I will spend $100s or (highest so far $1000) at a time on used sets. Or when a set is retiring. Like the Tumbler. I snagged 4 or 6 of those.

Me! Apart from spending the odd fiver on a couple of CMFs, I don't like to buy Lego without checking the bank account first, and thinking ahead about what bills are coming up, whether I'll need to make a big grocery order the following week, etc. etc. If I know there's an expensive period coming up then I'll just presume I'm not going to be buying Lego for a month or two.

I very seldom pay RRP; charity shop finds, gift cards, loyalty/VIP points and sales are the reason I can buy as much as I do, which isn't a huge amount by Brickset standards, but keeps me happy.

I set myself a monthly budget purely because I have other interests as well.
The boss and I also like to travel a bit so if holidays need paying for, the Lego buying stops for a while (unless the exchange rate is really good and there is a suitable establishment abroad to buy Lego from).

I definitely need to budget what I'm spending on lego. Since last new year, I've tracked all related purchases, hopying next month's spend will go down as a result. However, every month seems to bring new sales, new sets, rare or must have finds on eBay! The thing that is starting to limit my purchases now is that I'm running out of space to store stuff! :)

My wife also budgets my Lego spending. I must say she is very generous, due to that my shelves are full. Each month I find more and more sets I want. It's a never ending cycle.

I'm not much of a car person, but @Yodalicious, that is an AWESOME car.
Yeah that is awesome.  If it only had the steering wheel on the correct side then I would be all over this.
Thanks! It's pretty darn fun to drive. Even with that pesky steering wheel on the left (right...haha) side.
Reminds me of a Ford Capri :-)

I ordered LEGO Star Wars Eclipse Fighter #75145 yesterday. Regular retail price for it here in NL is €44,99, which is totally insane! Bol.com (sort of a Dutch amazon) has it discounted for €38,95 , which is still expensive, but more along what I believe the RRP should be for it. However I got it for €26,45 as I still had €12,50 in gift-cards I could use to bring it down some more to a price I am happy to pay for it.
It should arrive tomorrow I hope.
I bought it mostly for Dengar, his swoopbike, and the other minifigure Naare. Though her spaceship looks quite nice too. Plus I am a total SW Lego nut! Seems like a really nice little mid-sized set to me.

Lol, I bought that set for Dengar and his Swoop too! XD The Boy liked the ship after I went ahead and built it (cool battle-ready feature!), so it's all his. :D

I, too, budget for LEGO, look for sales, take advantage of VIP deals, as well as recycle cans & bottles for even more fun-money. I have a closet shelf/table display area in our only extra room in the house: Boy's Playroom. Running out of space, so that's always in mind when I'm looking at larger sets (though I couldn't pass up that deal on the Airjitsu Temple several weeks back), but I'll always grab the mid-sized airships & other vehicles and find a way to squeeze 'em in, or hang them with clear thread!

i picked up #70603 Raid Zeppelin last night, just cuz it looks cool.... and it'll go nicely over the Temple. :D

Airport Starter Set 60100, Star Wars Encounter on Jakku 75148, and Corner Deli 31050
     - at Tesco with £10 off, and another £40 off because of the 1000 Clubcard points offer a couple of months ago.

I don't have a budget, but I do look out for offers :)

Finally watched Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice last night, so ordered #76046 Heroes of Justice: Sky High Battle from Amazon at 22% off and threw a $5 Bing Reward. This set has all the main characters, so it made sense to me, but mostly for Wonder Woman... and her invisible jet! ;-) This has been probably discussed before, but feel a missing opportunity missing here by not including a bigfigure of Doomsday :-(

Today got #76045 Kryptonite Interception 20% off at TRU for the Batmobile and the kryptonite (need to keep the guy in blue tights in line).

I guess I should get #76044 Clash of the Heroes at some point to complete the series (already have the polybag).

Doomsday may have come after LEGO was shown what to make sets out of, ala First Order Snowspeeders.

@SprinkleOtter Could be. Still, a miss opportunity on both parts (LEGO and WB) in my opinion.

Also, shouldn't Lex have short legs? LOL

Forgot to mention that looking into a box of Mixels found a single CMF Series 12 bag for $0.03 (yes, 3 cents!). Already got a complete set from eBay last year, but an extra CMF is always good :-) Turned out to be a #71007-11 Pizza Delivery Man, which is perfect to deliver late-night food to  Tony Stark and Bruce Banner* when working at the #76038 Avengers Tower.

    * I just realized that there's no Bruce Banner minifigure... what's up with that?

I do. But it's more saving up over several consecutive months instead of budgeting. For instance, the Brick Bank took me 4 months to save up for, Big Ben will take 6, and the Disney Castle probably 10. And of course, not all of my savings are going to Lego; just a portion of it, while the rest goes to pay for tuition (I study part-time while working full-time) and the occasional holiday. It's financially impossible for me to buy much Lego, so I'm focusing on the big sets and ignoring the rest.

i live a pirate life at my grandmas 1st floor, dont need much money for living (water, heating, cleaning maid.) my job is programming C+ and VBA. really not into drinking booze or travelling. i have 3 passions

-nerdism/gadgetism/ubergeek (not a early adopter tough, more like in the opensource DIY spirit)
    -DUB vinyls and soundsystem culture
    and
    -LEGO

living on a budget is cool, cuz spending money effectively is inevitable. its not that difficult, i did study for 3 years on university, so i know how to keep a budget!

My love for LEGO resurfaced about a year ago or so, when I started buying some sets on sale at Walmart...most remain unopened (I have no space to display them yet), but I want to keep on collecting more.

However, to answer your question, I had to stop from buying sets that were only <20% off, or else I would go broke and would not have space to sleep. Overall, I think a $100 per month budget is very generous, with 'discretionary' spending if a set is over 40% off.

EDIT: My budget is about $50, but ideally it would be the $100.

I definitely have a budget, but it's more a "balanced spending" than a particular amount of money I stick to.  If I spend a lot on Lego in one month, I'll stop spending in the next, sometimes for months at a time.  My other hobby is travel and that's quite expensive too so it all needs to be worked out in advance! (Although, with some of the prices for those larger sets... I think travel can work out to be cheaper - I just booked a three night/four day trip to Paris for two people for less than the cost of a Disney Castle!)

With all the large new sets that are out now though (I've got my eye on the Ghostbusters Firehouse, Brick Bank, and Disney Castle in particular), my plan is to stop buying smaller sets and "save" that money to put toward the larger ones (with the exception of Architecture, if I've been to the place, and CMFs).  It'll be hard though because I really like those holiday vignettes!

That being said, I just bought the retro Knight set off eBay, so we'll see how long this "small set ban" lasts.  >.<

I am currently in college, so as you can assume money is tight. I decided to go to community college for my first 3 years. The community college has a partnership with the state school. So my 4th year I'll transfer to the state school and get my 4 year degree. Being at a community college I am paying a lot less for school. I am also able to work as well. I don't really care about missing out on the college experience. Because in the long run I should be able to graduate debt free. I am able to still buy Lego and continue my passion while still paying for college and a car.

I have been holding off on buying sets right now. I am waiting/ preparing for October's double points (if it happens) and black Friday.

I have a budget as well, or more or less a limit per year, which is now set up to a maximum of 1.000,- EUR/year for Lego. This year I managed to stick to it by refusing to buy the Batcave and Hoth set and still getting GBHQ, Disney Castle, Brick Bank and WV Train soon.

Err - so my rule about only buying OT sets was bent a bit by buying a Star Wars Battlefront set a couple of months ago, but I've now broken it completely by buying #75082 (13% off at TRU). I came to the conclusion that the UCS Tie Fighter was just going to be too big to display, and I was won over by the JANGBRiCKS review of the Tie Advanced (along with the lure of the Inquisitor minifigure).

    What have I started?

I'm going to have to buy Season 1 of Rebels now too...

I was going to say that I have the same rule, but then realized that my rule is really 'no prequels' sets as I have OT, TFA, Rebels and Freemaker Adventures sets.

I join @MaffyDin welcoming you to the 'LEGO Star Wars Slippery Slope Club'.

@dspigel The Ghost + Phantom combo is definitely my favorite too. The wookie ship is a fun build and I think it does look nice. I have not yet build #75106 Imperial Assault Carrier and I'm missing the two new big sets: #75157 Captain Rex's AT-TE and #75158 Rebel Combat Frigate.

I try to get most, if not all of the retail Star Wars sets. No UCS (yet), SDCC, or other promo stuff I can't get. So today I got #75108 Commander Cody, one of the few contraction figures I have yet to get.

At first I wasn't sold on the action figures. However, while browsing the local Lego store. I saw the display for #75112 and I was hooked. I am really impressed how awesome it looks on my shelf.

I don't care for the buildable figures. Somebody gave me #75111 Darth Vader for Xmas; later I found #75110 Luke Skywalker at 40% off, so I bought it to make it more of a display, but that's it. I guess it's not my thing.

I do have a few UCS, but currently only the Sandcrawler is built. Looking forward to #75159 The Death Star later this ye... LOL *wipes tears* not really *sigh* LOL

I haven't bought any actual LEGO for awhile because I have been building/sorting sets I got on clearance last month. Instead, I have purchased some storage. I bought a couple of Akro-Mills 24 drawer containers for $20 each through Amazon and 2 tall three drawer containers from Walmart for $9 apiece.

Hi all, I passed on purchasing #75053 Ghost which was sitting on the shelf in a toy store in a country town here in Australia.
My question is does it display well as I would be buying it purely for that reason.
Just coming out of my hiatus since my younger years and have bought up a number of sets in our mid year sales.
  • JooTogJooTog Member Posts: 945
@Johnyk668 I think it does. This picture might not do it justice as my display area is pretty crowded.

I also think that it needs #75048 The Phantom to "make it whole", which fits in the back of the Ghost.

@JooTog thanks for the photos, I'm a fan of Rebels so will definitely go back and grab it.
I've been stalking the set on ebay and was a bit of suprise to see it on the shelf at RRP.
