Hey guys, I'm looking to start collecting some Star Wars Legos. Given what is currently available, what do you think I should get first?
    75060 Slave I
Why would you pick this one over the others? As it happens my wife bought this for me. Any other current ones a must have? I still want Rex's AT-TE.
As #75157 Rex's AT-TE has only just come out, that should probably go to the back of your queue. @Bumblepants suggestion to start with whatever catches your fancy of 2014 sets still available, and then work your way up to 2015 sets, is sound.
Of UCS sets, #75095 Tie looks great next to #75060 Slave I. If you like #10236 Ewok Village or #75059 Sandcrawler: both these sets are at risk of retiring this year. Speculating about Lego sets retiring is like reading tealeaves though, only worse, so YMMV etc.

    ^^^

    Go big first.

    Sandcrawler and Ewok.

It makes the smaller sets seem that much more insignificant.

I love the the Rebels sets. You can just focus on those, or just OT stuff or newer SW (TFA, Rogue, etc.) stuff.

Either way, $$$ is gonna get dropped. Prioritize with your budget because SW alone can get costly.

But whatever you do, NEVER pay full retail (except for the huge UCS sets which rarely go on sale).

Well, in your post the word "collecting" caught me. If there was one current set that would be mandatory for a collection it would be 75060. The model is iconic and perfectly done. It is large and a very beautiful display piece. There are lots of great sets currently available, but imo, 75060 cant be beat by any other currently available (non retired) set.

I may also add that waiting for double VIP points seasons could be in your interest. While $20 off a $200 set may not seem like much in comparison to the sales you may see on other sets, it's still $20 to be spent somewhere else.

Since UCS don't go on sale in the USA I always wait for double points and get the oldest ones first.

Just got round to watching the trailer for season 3 of rebels, looks like another good season.
    http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xmXp802sFgQ if you are interested.

There are some really good 'Canon' and 'Legends' bits to spot - but apart from the obvious ones ,the one at 1:08 was really nice as it looked remarkably like Mr Rendar's ship in battle.
(sorry for being a bit vague but do not want to spoil it for those that don't want a sneaky peek).

^That trailer makes Season 3 of Rebels look amazing! Very hyped up for it, to see Ezra inch closer to the dark side. This show is improving by leaps and bounds between seasons.

Yes, I want to pick up #75059 once I have the money. I just hope it isn't retiring soon. I've been picking sets up here and there. I have a good bit just haven't built many. I'm really limited on space so I'm just saving them till I move back to the mainland.

I like the AT-ST, but not the stickers on its feet. Will get it for sure, but unlikely to apply those stickers.
Have these sets been officially announced? If not I guess the pictures will be removed soon.

I like the top of the U-wing but the underneath is very boxy. Might be accurate but looks odd to me.

Ah, I think that pictures coming from Amazon/a retailer have been OK in the past? Happened with a DC or Marvel set earlier this year I think and those were not removed.

Images from Amazon would typically be fair game but in the case of Star Wars we have to be particularly careful and I have therefore removed these images to be on the safe side, particularly since they are from the new movie.

    Thank you for your understanding.

It looks like the underside has been enlarged, out of scale with the top, to create a playable interior. This then makes the engines look too small, because the height of each should be roughly the same as the height of the underside.

Liking the designs of both the U wing and Tie Striker a LOT! Seeing SW ships that look like they could actually be capable of atmospheric flight, along with the trailers I've seen to date, gives me high hopes for the upcoming film.
  • flordflord Member Posts: 797
The AT-ST is the only must-buy for me. Maybe the shuttle, but I want to see more details first. To each their own and all, but that U-wing is ugly. Someone needs to tell the Rebellion that it's ok NOT to have ships that are based on the alphabet.

^ This was my first though too. The U-wing movie artwork has more of a wedge-shaped underside. I agree with @binaryeye , looks like they wanted to create a playable interior. I guess they really wanted that Rocket Raccoon looking guy (Bistan) to have his moment. The engines are also further apart vertically, but I'm assuming that's so the wings can sweep back.

The new Rogue One vehicles aren't a patch on the OT designs. Not TLG's fault, but I'm disappointed.

To be fair though, just about any adult Star Wars fan has OT stuff on such a high pedestal there is nothing that can do better. I know that is the case for me. I do like that they are getting a bit more color into ships though, especially for the Lego.
  • wardmwardm Member Posts: 878
You guys think the new U-wing might have a similar missile launching mechanism as the new A-wing that came out this year?
  • One must assume that the Death Star plans are coming with the Death Star set. Since they don't appear in the U-wing set with Jyn Erso?
  • catwranglercatwrangler Member Posts: 1,894
The sets look pretty cool to me, but I'm not a hardcore SW fan so I'm less familiar with the details of the ships as shown in the movies. Looking forward to the official announcement so we can hear more about play features etc.

Chicken Walker for sure, especially as the build closely resembles my favorite LEGO version of the AT-ST (which I still need to acquire...) from #8038. The U-Wing does look a bit more bulky than the "actual" ship, but I do like it. The rest... meh. :D Though I wonder, will there be another AT-AT, in the new color-y deco?

I agree with you on the OT comment.

And that led me to think: a Rebel (or Empire) docking bay that can accommodate multiple ships would be AWESOME.

My local store (Auchan) had #75152 Imperial Assault Hovertank already on the shelf. EUR 44.99 though, so it remained there.

For some reason I really dislike the build of that one. Doesn't seem to really translate a tank to me. More of a crawling sled :/

What's the meaning of this empty 2016 Star Wars set? Is this just a set number that won't exist or a set to be released at the end of 2016?

Hi all, this is my first post, so I hope it will follow proper etiquette.

As this is the general Star Wars thread, I'd like to know your opinion about the chances of getting a major Cloud City set next year? Since the 2003 Cloud City set, there hasn't been a single significant set based on that location, while many other sets have gone through multiple iterations.

But now recently the carbon-freezing chamber has been released, and there is a cloud city guard and silver protocol droid in this years SW Advent Calendar. This makes me suspect that soon we will see a larger sized Cloud City set. Doesn't TLG often try stuff out before using it in sets, like new pieces in the Collectable Minifigs Series that later appear in new theme sets?

One can hope TLG will give us a new updated Cloud City set. If they indeed lean that way. It's possible it could be a UCS with tons of play features. It would be nice if they broke it up into two sets like #9516 and #75005. Say one set as the dining room/landing zone and below it the carbon freezing chamber/cat walk area from the Luke vs Vader scene. Either way I'd like to see it. Lord knows I'll never have the original.

It is not an AT-AT. It is an AT-ACT. Im sure we will see one at some point.

@Dtrimpi87 already working on modding the last AT-AT to turn it into at an AT-ACT. Looks like it will be fairly easy. Some changes to the guns on the head and adding orange bumpouts to the sides. I might tweak the head shape, if I'm feeling adventurous.

One month without anything being added here, what's going on? I've been keenly scouring the internet for hints on next years UCS models and aside from the snowspeeder which has been delayed from this year I've got nothing. No release dates, piece counts, prices, nada. Can we only expect the snowspeeder next year? Is it going to be beginning of the year or shortly before May the 4th?

Can we expect something big to coincide with the 40th Anniversary? Anyone know anything?

A bit early for rumors. the February toy fairs should give us a look at the summer line up but D2C stuff doesn't show at those events so harder to get info on.

    Not UCS, but: http://brickset.com/article/24652/2017-star-wars-sets-revealed!

Loving the look of the Y-wing pilot. Is it me or does it look like Yoda's been customising a TIE?

It could be a predecessor to the TIE fighter family, after all it's from the end of the Clone Wars.

I'm loving that new Scarif set, the Y-Wing and the Battle Packs. I wish the Death Troopers were the same as those in #75156. These just seem like inferior versions. Also, I wonder why we haven't seen any sets with a Saw Gerrera minifigure yet?
  • Jackad7Jackad7 Member Posts: 555
THRAWN. I'm sure that set will be  $40 because LEGO knows they can sell sets with chase figured. Also really excited about the duel of the fates. As bad as The Phantom Menace was the lightsaber battle was the gem of that movie. (Sound track for it was good too.)

    Very enthused about Thrawn.

(Although I was a bit disappointed he's appearing in Rebels rather than Rogue One.)
