Does anybody own both 10672 and 10724?

I've heard that the two Batman have different capes. Can anyone check this?

    Bricklink says so.

Opps. That's supposed to be "Bricklink says NO".

There's a pending approval for a new figure, which is why I asked.

What BrickLink says doesn't count for much. It's fairly common for two parts to be thought the same when they're not. It usually comes down to how closely you look.

The replacement parts pages, however, say they're different. That could still mean they're identical. However, the renderings are different and seem to suggest that the bottom of the cape is more wavy in #10672 and, the newer one, more jagged in #10724.

I understand that some things on BL need to be taken with a grain of salt, that's why I asking on here. However, looking at the replacement parts it seems the two capes are different.

Set 10672, the cape is part number 6062861, In set 10724, the cape is part number 6154842.  The new cape in 10724 is stiff like the old style, not the soft new style cape as mentioned on the bricklink approval.  My cape from 10724 looks a different shade from my one from 10672, but that may be due to aging and damage from light.

I have a new cape in sealed box from 10672, and comparing through the small window in the box, it looks slightly lighter shade of blue than the new one.

So technically, I guess they are different figures, but almost impossible to tell apart without looking at them side by side.

Thank you. Can you feel the two capes? The bricklink page as states that they have different material.

Feels like same stiffness to me.  As I said its not the new soft type.  For example, I have the mighty micros figures here too, which have the new soft capes.  Batman's cape in 10724 feels like the old stiff capes.

You could argue that the 10724 is slightly less stiff, but its marginal.  Its not 'flowy' like the mighty micro capes.  My 10672 Batman has been squashed into the comic con batmobile, so it seems to have stiffened up over time.  The 10724 batman cape feels exactly the same as Tumber Batman's cape and jetski Batman's cape, which haven't been subjected to their vehicles, as they have the privilege of being desk ornaments

Thank you. I'm still very confused why the two are considered different. Seems more of a slight difference in pieces instead of an entirely new piece.

Did those numbers come from the instruction booklets? Or from the boxes that contain them within each set. If the former, it means there's even more of them;  if the latter, then those are numbers for the boxed capes, not the capes themselves.

The replacement parts pages list 6062094 and 6154843.

I would agree, but I'm completely new to identifying variations in parts.  As far as I'm aware there is a starchy material (old style) for capes, and a new flowy fabric.  10724 is definitely starchy.

Are there different types of the starchy cape?  I suppose as the part number is different, it has to be considered as a new minifig.

There's apparently a new "Shiny Starched Fabric", but I haven't gotten a hold of a figure with it; so I don't know the difference.
  • padraicpadraic IrelandMember Posts: 6
That could be it.  I'm failing to tell the difference between "traditional starched fabric" and "shiny starched fabric".  All I can say for sure is, its not  the "spongy stretchable fabric".

Yeah, one of these days I'll find out the difference.

One other thing to remember- LEGO doesn't care about part differences- marbled old gray and light bluish gray UCS ISDs, anyone?

Yep, there are so many miniscule differences to pieces, i.e. stud recessed and open stud.

The capes feel the same and are the same pattern. 10672 is more of a gray blue. Don't know if it comes through in the pictures.

They've also changed their minds about how they do some things, and continue to do so. If, one minute, you think you know when they do and don't distinguish between almost identical parts, the next minute they'll prove you wrong.

The differences are much more apparent now, thank you so much!
