Are you asking how do people get money to buy lego?

BTW, is this a trick question, or am I missing something?
  • dragologerdragologer Member Posts: 133
basically. good ways to finance specifically for lego.
  • ryjayryjay Member Posts: 1,009
Ok, I'm not the right person to answer then because the cost of Lego is so incidentally to me I don't need to think about.  Now that doesn't mean I spend freely on Lego, because I actually like money much more then I like many of the sets.

I've actually done Uber to get some extra Lego coin and other discretionary spending money.  But it's a lousy company and they have slashed rates.  Might start back up again now that they have the new functionality to enter your destination and pick up riders along the way.  If I can monetize my commute home from work, the Lego will roll in!!

I'd focus on getting a job to support your life first.

I do every hour of overtime available. The downside to that is I seem to spend the majority of my life at work, and not much time for building..
Strippers make good money, or so I've been told!

I have sold my body on the streets to fund my Lego and so far have enough to buy the maze.Unfortunately it is only the  @Adzbadboy version

LEGO Brand Store - Maze 21305
Don't forget each copy includes a '4565323 - Plate 2X2 W 1 Knob' which gives a full 360° movement; much more than the real one! :P

Try marrying into a wealthy family which has an interest in toy collecting, lots of space and a laissez-faire attitude to in-laws spending all the time. That should work...

Well that's ruined it for me - its not meant to rotate at all. I need to find a different MOC to bricklink now.

Go to work at the nearest Lego store part time. You'll get extra spending money, employee discount and you get to talk Lego all day long.

there's short- , mid- and long-term investing... buying lots and do some sorting has worked for me to get a headstart. also buying multiples of the sets you like. its a lot about houses, trains, promos, rarities ... but i got some great money out of old bionicle too.
also get to know all the trivia and stuff. colors, printings, fi there is a bionicle set with dark blue colored columns which happen to be also part of CC...

just get a job where you can bricklink secondarily and brickset.com isnt blocked by a firewall.

    and this  -->

Send me part of the Powerball winnings, and I'll do the same in Victor, NY.

Don't laugh, selling used underwear is big business. There's even a Craigslist area to buy and sell used underwear. There are some women who make good money selling their used panties on the internet.

It's like orange is the new black (they start an illegal used underwear business), but the sellers aren't already in prison.

Or, ditch the net and get yourself one of these...

    Used as well!

I fund ny LEGO habit through buying and selling anything and everything. Wheels, furniture, extra LEGO etc etc.

Look for lots in charity shops, I bought 2 large boxes for £15 and it had #9461 #9462 #9463 and #9467 in amongst it all.

i once saw a documentary about the used underwear business on arte.

its basically old men wearing it for an hour or something, then there get some chemicals added --> ship --> profit !

I believe I was invoked in the drug selling part =) Selling drugs is a very high dollar, low margin game with tons of regulations and .... oh wait, you were talking about those drugs. Yes, lots of money there.

That's easy. Then we just commiserate about how greedy drug companies are and how useless (and greedy) insurance companies are =)

In my earlier days, I would buy used / incomplete sets - often in bulk - then clean it all up, replace missing parts, instructions, stickers etc, then sell them on again.

Use this money to next the next batch and repeat.

Every so often I could siphon some money off to spend on a 'new' set I wanted.

This worked well for a year or so - I was slowly increasing the value of my initial stake, but was still getting to build in the meantime (I focused on buying used sets I was actually interested in and wanted to build rather than buying for the sole purpose of selling).

I no longer have time to do that, but I'm in a better position now so it's not as necessary to do so - especially as I can always offload a couple of sets I'm yet to build to fund something else.

Something to consider - but if you're a student, you're probably better off putting the extra effort into studying ;)

Just throwing this out there, you know, maybe it's irrelevant here, but just to be sure: that whole rule of the site that states, "you must be at least 16 years old to join the forum" is still in effect, right?

I mean, are we just keeping this kid around for laughs, or is something else going on?

Addendum: drugs are bad, mmmkay? Almost as bad as dropping a deuce in the urinal.
