^ Yes, this is what I would like too.

@prevere, whilst it's prohibited to share the pictures themselves, could you give a hint as to where to find them? Google isn't being helpful.
  • prevereprevere Member Posts: 2,923
^Funny, someone else asked me too. I went back to look this morning and couldn't find them. It could have been a MOC. Tiny image - so not much to go by, I'm sorry. It was similar to the tiny images out there of the new Cinderella Castle and Death Star.

Emerald Night was originally $100 U.S. when released in 2009, and had around 1,100 pieces. I could completely see something similar for the WV theme at a $100-125 price point... and if done as quality as the Emerald Night (though I doubt it possible), it would be a great seller for many winters to come! Side note, I seriously just heard sleigh bells outside my house.

Not one LEGO train has come close to #10194 - Emerald Night! It's one I'd seriously consider picking up on the secondary market.
  • MattDawsonMattDawson Member Posts: 1,489
Really? Even though it's an odd scaling, 11 studs wide for the loco at it's widest point, 6 studs wide for the tender body, and only a single carriage included?
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
Heck, they RE released toy shop. Just do a straight RE release of the emerald night =) It would be fine as a Christmas train.

I agree that the Emerald Night remains the best Lego train. I'm still kicking myself for not picking one up at retail but I was too occupied by Star Wars sets at the time. Unfortunately the current secondary market value has far exceeded what I would be willing to pay.

I'm excited for the Winter Train. Hopefully Lego will aim for a higher price point than recent Winter Village sets to allow for a more detailed model. I'm expected something similar to 10173 Holiday Train.

This train will be interesting. Between catering to the kids; and the adults, I think we'll see something in the middle. I humbly think we'll get a version of the #40138 scaled up to minifig scale. Just thinking realistically with the tone and designs of the previous Winter Village sets, this seems the path they'll take for this.

To be honest, an Emerald Night re-make doesn't fit with the Winter Village series. It's almost in a class by itself. Eventually, we'll get another high-end steam locomotive that we can only pray is half of what we got with EN.

I'm hoping for more of a classic steam engine look personally, something along these lines but more Christmasy of course.

I'm not a huge fan of the Emerald Night as it seems a little too modern for me. Though if that is what the majority wants then so be it. I'll really make my decision when I see the final product.

As far as power functions, I'm of the same mind as the recent posts. It should support PF but not include them to either keep the price down or include more cars.

Now there's a thing. To me that screams America while the WV theme to me is European.
  • TheLoneTensorTheLoneTensor Member Posts: 3,937
I always though they had a Dickensesque, British feel.

Though I guess that makes it 100% non-European also :)

We are all still European. Until they figure out how to float us off into the Atlantic that is not going to change (I hear Farage has people working on it).

^ Um, I'm pretty sure the British Isles are floating off in the Atlantic...

^ I see the Literal Police are out and about...

(If we want to go all Earth Science, we are all on floating plates of liquid hot magma - so we're all on islands.)

Looks like the second car has technic function to make the tiny train spin around the tiny tree or something as it rolls. Also, TRACK!

So, they went American after all.

    $100. Not sure about GBP.

I'm surprised by how good it looks, I will have to buy it, especially since I just found some track in a small lot that I bought...

Sorry everyone, I suspect that image was not intended for release so I have removed it. Nevertheless, a nice sneak preview and I agree with the comments above that it looks great!

Train fans on Eurobricks are already slagging it off a bit. Mind you, they wouldn't have been happy with anything less than a fully realistic large steam train with PF and many more parts than this has. In short, they were being unrealistic.

Looks nice, understand the disappointment for the hardcore train fans, but frankly this one was never going to be for them. I'm just really hoping that it's been designed with an easy ability to add power functions
  • bobabricksbobabricks Member Posts: 1,842
Looks good, I wonder why the toy car has axle wheels? Does it do something?
  • playwellplaywell Member Posts: 2,309
I am a bit disappointed, do we need more curved track no. If they have left that out they could have made the train a lot longer. I mean really if you think about it that whole train is only pulling one carriage. The main thing I like about the idea of a winter train is that you can make lots of fun things for it to pull. I will probably pick it up but as I have the Toy Story train I have the parts to make something better myself.

There's speculation that it's geared to turn the xmas tree on top of it as it runs around the track.
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,987
Huh. The train is fine, but I think I prefer the one we did better. I will have to consider this one. If it is easy to add PF, I may consider getting it for the engine and extra track.
  • LostInTranslationLostInTranslation Member Posts: 5,572
I really like this, I'll definitely be getting it.

^ It includes a full loop of track. Considering the quality of the Creator trains to date, it easy to understand most of the train fans disappointment.

I like it. Will look great around the Xmas tree.

I'm not sure this is for me... I'm a huge fan of steam trains, but not of the American style, which I (personally) can't stand. Horrible wood-burners! ;-)
Oh, for a 10173 Holiday Train! But at the prices being asked... No chance... :-(
  • PaperballparkPaperballpark Member Posts: 4,268
^ I built 10173 from my spare parts. I can honestly say that the loco, by current standards, is rubbish.
  • monkey_roomonkey_roo Member Posts: 1,411
Love it, hope for power functions conversion but even without it is a nice looking train that fits with the theme, can't wait.

Yep - Emerald Night it certainly isn't.... 10173 is definitely one of those sets whose popularity is a bit of a mystery to me.

    Initial thoughts
    • Love the period American engine style, but thought they'd go with something not so close to the Lone Ranger Constitution, which was of the same era
    • Not a fan of red wheels, so Fisher-Price-ish
    • Definitely some gearing to turn the tree, based on the rear wheel of that car having an axle
    • Only a circle of track?  Not even an oval?
    • Another steam engineer minifig is always welcome
    • No way this thing is motorizable without massive changes :(

It's nice but I wouldn't pick it as my first Lego train...
