dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
so, we are now 4 episodes in. Anyone been watching this?  What do people think?

I personally couldn't get through the first episode.  Definitely targeted at a younger audience than, say Rebels.  I thought the acting was forced and the jokes and writing were terrible imo.

I just finished watching the 4 episodes so far and I'm digging it. I really love the other Lego series The Yoda Chronilces and Droid Tales so I had fairly high expectations going in. I wouldn't say the Freemaker Adventures is quite as good as the others but I think it's very entertaining.  The new Jedi/Sith character Naare is a great new addition imo.

I'm not really sure what to think of the new Naare character... I like the three freemakers and their droid, but I hate the childish Emperor approach... The power of the most powerful lightsaber is also quite dull... The addition of Hutts and Bounty Hunters made it all better imo.

I'm not to fond of the childish emperor

    (Dead thread comes to live)

Up to date on this show.

Overall, I am OK with the younger audience "style" (I am nowhere near the target audience, like light-years away), but I agree that the childish Emperor/Vader is too much; I mean, in comparison Naare (which I really like) is portrayed more "seriously" and probably should be in charge of the empire instead of the two buffoons.

With that said, is not a show that I'll miss if it goes away, but it's a nice thing to play in the background while building sets.

The first couple of episodes had me wonder about the timeline of the show, that was quickly answered in episode 4. I also enjoy all the "guest appearance", including the nod to TFA in episode 8.

Already have the two sets available; I found both to be fun builds. Wish #75147 StarScavenger was a bigger; but it includes all four main characters, so no complains there :-) With Naare on #75145 Eclipse Fighter I'm a happy camper. Not sure that any other sets are "needed" at this point, though.

@JooTog @dougts My four year old watches this and loves it, but he's probably in the target audience so that makes sense. I've certainly had to watch worse things with him and at least this show has two of my favourite things in it - Star Wars and Lego!

I've spotted a few little 'in' jokes for older viewers to appreciate which makes it more bearable. And I'm pretty used to the childish Emporer/Vader combo after seeing all the other Star Wars Lego stuff like Yoda Chronicles, etc.

We built the StarScavenger together last week and he's played with it plenty, especially Roger. Haven't got the Eclipse Fighter yet, but might grab it eventually, even if it's just to get that Dengar minifig :-)

It is decent in my opinion. The eclispe fighter is o.k, but that star scavenger is... bleh. Maybe at a crazy discount. Hondo was done well and glad to see the return of Jek-14 but mostly just watching because it has the tar wars tag.

Unlike the StarScavenger, the Eclipse Fighter feels on-spot regarding scale; it is also heavy on Technic parts to make the front work. But the most amazing thing: no stickers! Seriously!

The Dengar minifigure is nice, but I did not care for the speeder and believe the Eclipse would have been fine by itself set. Actually, I think it would have been better to make the speeder a third, cheaper set; that way non-Freemaker fans would have bought it for the Dengar minifigure alone without paying for a ship that does not appeal to them. Maybe even throw Baash and Raam minifigures along with Dengar and the speeder... wait... maybe there IS the need for a third set that includes Graballa, Baash and Raam ;-)

Actually I think the speeder was a great feature and looks good in person. However they spoiled the show before it came out because the set shows her lightsaber is red, o I knew she was evil before the show ever air. Also she has an evil face=).

I enjoy the show but not at the level of Clone Wars.
Very silly but most Lego SW stuff is.
Freemakers IS SW canon now , right?

My 5-year-old really likes it, so that's good.  In my opinion, LEGO cartoons in general do better when they're satirizing the original source material; by telling a new story, they're now required to actually set up the characters and have a "normal" script, which naturally takes away the humor compared to "The Padawan Menace" and all the other LEGO Star Wars films.

But on the bright side, more LEGO set designs!

I also think that it is good, but nowhere near the Clone Wars or Rebels.

I don't believe any of the Lego Star Wars offerings are considered SW canon.

I think the show is nicely done for what it is. I put it on when I'm doing things around the living room and while it's geared for a much younger audience, I enjoy most of the episodes. Also the Emperor character reminds me of Stewie Griffen in that funny, evil way.

I have been enjoying the show but the sets are very poor, particularly #75147 Star Scavenger.

I never watched The Yoda Chronicles and The Freemaker Adventures is my first LEGO Star Wars show exposure. I did watch The Padawan Menace a couple of months ago and did not know what to make out of it (bought it for the Young Han minifigure... and it was on sale).

    *** SPOILER ALERT ***

I just learned that Jek-14, from this week's episode, originated in TYC. Nice to know that this kind of links to previous shows/stories exist. I liked the character and the way it looks in TFA (uhm... The Freemaker Adventures, not The Force Awaken). Here it is hoping for a minifigure someday, specially since we'll probably see more of him based on the last scene of the episode. Not sure what such a set could be yet; I guess we'll have to wait and see :-)

    I so want Dengar's ship!

This show is extremely funny, and it covers two things I love, LEGO and Star Wars. As if it's canon or not...I don't think that characters played by LEGO minifigures can count as canon...either way, I hope they don't stop making these.

Downside, the blu-ray won't have any minifigure.

Just finished the first season. Enjoyed the silliness but like that they include the lesser known characters and a few of the big guys (but they don't steal the spotlight from The Freemakers).

seeing Jek was a pure delight to me.

Giving the Freemakers free reign to tie in different SW shows/licenses was a great idea.

Re: canon, I read a while back that the showrunners coined the term 'canon paraphrase' for it - some version of the events happened, but the show we see is essentially a child recreating it with his/her toys, and embellishing, reimagining, and just plain inventing extra stuff along the way.

I quite like that as a conceit - as a fan I like feeling that the SW verse is being added to (or reintroduced, for formerly-canon stuff like the Wheel), as well as taking whatever entertainment I might from the show itself (and after starting out good fun, it really grew on me as it went on).  And it's fun to try to imagine what really did happen, and what got thrown in because a kid thought it sounded cool.  My headcanon is that Naare was just an Imperial agent of some kind, and Kordi and Zander were at the centre of events, but the kid thought it'd be better if Rowan was the hero and fought Naare with a lightsaber.

Binge-watching Season 2 today. Did anybody noticed that #75167 is from Episode 6? You almost have to freeze-frame to verify that it is the same speeder bike.

If "canon" is an equivalent to "historically accurate", it could be subject to change at any time. Lots of the history I was taught in high-school in the 1970s has been rewritten. For that matter, even science is getting rewritten on a regular basis, as evidenced by the controversial reduction in the number of planets in our solar system.

Season two is fantastic - better than the first! I truly hope we see a season three, set shortly after Return of the Jedi. I'm not sure if anything on screen has covered post-ROTJ, pre-TFA yet, except for books and video games. I'm cautiously optimistic for that.

If they don't release another star scavenger/arrowhead set I'd like to see combo model instructions officially released

Season two was really good. I too would love to see a third season.

Well it was either decrease the planet count by 1 or increase it by about 70. Seems they made the right choice, considering all the factors. Pluto never should have been classified as a planet to
begin with, in retrospect. But they weee acting on the best information at the time. I think righting that error was a better choice than compounding it
