What's been your building time for it?

Lego Store employee said it took him 14 hours.

^ It is too bad that they aren't the same scale.

They're not far off; that point is even made in the designer video.

Tower Bridge is about 200 feet; the Elizabeth Tower about 300.

    I meant the Opera House.

BB and the TB are certainly close enough in scale for me.

Oh thats cool to know I didn't realize the Tower Bridge and Elizabeth Tower sets were that close scale wise.

I'd be interested to see what the micro-scale bus looks like next to the BB model.  (Or the taxi.)

In terms of scale, maybe it's a perspective thing. I mean, Australia is pretty far from England, so it only makes sense that it should look smaller.

It took about 9 hours I think.

Tbh that's about what I'm expecting. Tower Bridge took me about 8 and a half hours, as did the Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS. I'm expecting a similar time for this. That employee must be a slow builder!

wow, I guess I haven't built anything on that scale yet.  The TB is still in the box - so now I know what to expect!

He told me that he didn't expect it to take that long and recommended that I spread the build over two days.

Funny thing is he had mentioned that he built the Tower Bridge, so he should have known how long it would take. (However, the TB is reflective in its build.)

Presumably, you missed the example earlier in the thread.

Uhm... I was planning to get #10234 Sydney Opera House to go along with the BB, but I just noticed that #10214 Tower Bridge is most likely to go out first, so I guess I should start with that one then.

The collector is struggling with buying the BB without having the other two :-(

Of course, I have nowhere to display them at home... I guess there is always the office :-)

    The BB arrived.

The usual Lego packing - lack of packing materials (bubble wrap, etc.) - resulting in a smashed Fountain and creased and dented BB box.

They make so much money you'd think they could spare a few bubble wrap!

Funny, my shipments from Lego always include appropriate amounts of bubble wrap and/or air pillows. This still doesn't prevent polybags from damaging larger boxes, or large boxes crushing smaller ones, of course.

Lately My shipments have one or two air bags thrown in, free to move where they please. It's the thought that counts.

My last one had an airpillow in, which would've semi-filled the space beside the Fountain... except it had burst (perhaps by the corner of the Fountain's box?) and the Fountain had got dented from shaking around in the main carton. For myself I don't mind, but I had a mental image of dozens of angry Bricksetters getting on the phone to customer services...

Apart from anything else, I've never seen an airpillow break before!

I am betting the #40220 London Bus poly will be the August promo item with this. Might be worth waiting to see if it is before jumping on the early release.
#40220 London Bus revealed as US August Promo in Calendar.

This must be standard operating procedure for bigger sets.  My GB HQ arrived in identical shape this week.

It is a box in a box.  I can see why Lego wouldn't put a lot of effort into packing a box in a box.

I just think they ought to do a better job of reducing the dead space in the shipping box.

That's what the pillows are suppose to do, act as dunnage, not necessarily protective packaging.

Presumably demand for this set in the rest of Europe will now plummet.
With Marine Le Pen having a Union Jack on her Twitter page?

    France? National Front? Union Jack?

After something like that, anything can happen.

So they can ship them all here and give us a discount!

ship them across the Atlantic and give US a discount!  You Brits might not be able to afford them with the plunging value of the pound anyway...

^ But all the offers end by 9th July, I am sure we will get other offers this summer.

Also I saw this set in MK and it look bigger than I thought, but I still have an unopened tower bridge to make first.

My local store told me 40220 London Bus will not be available this year in UK. It's probably just America ONLY!!! SO SAD!!!!
Next month is free 30422 with any £25, from 1st to 22nd.

It's likely to be available when, or after, the new flagship store opens. In a sense, it's "where it belongs", and #3300006 was used when Westfield London opened.
