#76029 - Iron Man vs. Ultron
#76050 - Crossbones’ Hazard Heist
I finally got round to building #70594 The Lighthouse Siege the other day, so I'll post a few thoughts for @chrisalddin in the thread that we were discussing it in earlier... If I can find it!
Edited to add: Ah... It was this one! ;-)
First off, the selection of figs is good. You get Nadakhan, Flintlocke, Sqiffy and Clancee on the Sky Pirates side and Jay, Nya, Echo Zane and a Tai-D robot on the Ninja side. I don't have Misfortune's Keep, so getting Nadakhan is good for me.
The build was enjoyable, but there are a couple of design choices that don't make a lot of sense to me:
The steps up to the lighthouse look awkward at the top and the trapdoor feature is too small, so that it's difficult to get any fig to actually fall through it, especially if they have a weapon.
The hidden "dynamite dropper" above the door doesn't quite open enough, which means that the dynamite often gets stuck.
There is a folding table on the main floor which, to me, just looks awkward, as it is built upside-down. I see why they have built it in the way that they have, but it just doesn't look right.
Don't get me wrong, there's a lot to like about the set... It's an impressive height, looks great and has plenty of play-features for kids (and big kids!)... The light at the top works well and, again, looks good. There was also enough variety in the build to keep it interesting from start to finish.

wish i could display all of it. but i dont have the room.
right now i only have 1 display place, all other places are in use as place to store set's untill i can get around to fixing my room again.
i keep putting off the work that will be needed.
as for building. i tend to do that on the weekend.
1 set a week.
this ends up with me having quite the back log, the back log is so bad that i use brickset to help keep track of unbuilt sets
1. Ninjago #70605 "Misfortune's Keep" for £40.99 (41% discount)
2. Speed Champions #75875 "Ford F-150 Raptor & Ford Model A Hot Rod" for £25.99 (35% discount)
3. Star Wars #75140 "Resistance Troop Transporter" for £41.99 (30% discount)
4. Creator #31036 "Toy & Grocery Shop" for £23.99 (31% discount)
5. Friends #41101 "Heartlake Grand Hotel" for £63.99 (36% discount)
I wasn't aiming to get any more Ninjago until much later in the year since I just finished buying the last of the Possession sets! However, at 41% discount, I just couldn't resist.
I'm not really a fan of the Speed Champions theme since I rarely apply stickers but I'm a Ford fan and I've been tempted more than once to buy the hot rod set. A 30% discount was enough to tip the balance.
I missed out when the resistance troop transport was last heavily discounted on Amazon so I didn't pass up this chance.
I've had the toy & grocery shop in my sights for ages but just couldn't muster enough enthusiam to close the deal. However, the momentum from my other purchases enabled this purchase. I can use it for parts if i'm still not excited when i receive it.
The final purchase is an unusual one for me since I don't like the extreme colour schemes and ladies accessories that come with Friends sets. However, the heartlake grand hotel stands apart in scale and comes with a excellent range of pieces. I will definitely build it and may try adapting it to be more 'man' friendly!
I have stayed away from the speed champions so far because of the stickers, but I am tempted by both Ford sets for the minifigs.
Ursula is actually a cool figure, but I want Buzz! Apparently I have no idea how to pick them, or the might have been picked already. Sighs.
how did i fall for nexo just right now!!!
the jester mobile, king mech, fortrex, and dozens of scurriers and baddies from bricklink
Ah. I feel slightly foolish now. I feel up the fig before I buy it. Never thought to do it the other way round and return it if I don't want it!
What dot code?
The dot codes are the very lightly printed dots along the bottom seal of the packet. They allow you to identify minifigures within a particular batch, but vary from box to box - if you are slow at feeling you can feel once then confirm other packets with the position/number of dots.
^ Thanks for the explanation. I once had a newly opened box all to myself for 15 minutes (shop owner had just opened it, and no-one else was in the shop to disturb me or for me to inconvenience) and I managed to work out that it wasn't random placement within the three rows and got through the box fairly quickly.
Also, in TLG stores the staff come over to help. Once had a crowd of people around me and a member of staff while we were trying to ID the figures.
