I first 'revealed' it on Eurobricks - it's probably around the same price as the last 2 vehicle and will be released this Fall!

Looking forward to this reveal. I was never a fan of the prior version either.

Could be good, I just hope they capture the shape more accurately than they did the Mini...

A sensible one who isn't going to be goaded by somebody into buying an old set that they don't actually want.
I was fairly sure that being a collector is precisely being "goaded by somebody into buying an old set that they don't actually want."

That would be a completist, an OCD sufferer or, someone who has a weak will..

Collecting is also about being selective. I collect certain Hotwheels but not all of them, because most of them are horrendous.

And i agree, the old one is kind of ugly, especially next to the camper.

Looking forward to a baby version in a bag.

Jumping in this thread quickly to make a confusing/derailing post comparing this to star wars rehashes and then wonder aloud how long the van will remain in production.

In seriousness, I do wonder what color scheme it will have. Anyone know?

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks the old version is horrible. All those exposed studs! And the jagged surfaces!
  • catwranglercatwrangler Member Posts: 1,895
I don't normally mind exposed studs but they're really jarring next to the smooth side of the car! I'd imagine that the new one will be more in keeping with the current fashion for tiles and smoothed, curved pieces for surfaces.
  • chrisalddinchrisalddin Member Posts: 3,041
on the old model i have this to say! "old version is horrible."
i hope the new one will fit in with the car's theme  lego have going right now,
    mini, VW van, and F40? F44? i know it's F4- something.
well i still need to get the F4- something. but i like the look of the mini and i am mid build of the VW van. also the ideas set that going to be coming out in the next year. who name i also dont recall. all of them side by side will make a good display piece.

Excited to see what this will look like. Haven't got the old model.

@chrisalddin it's the Caterham Super Seven and the Ferrari F40.

I've built the old model, and it's quite large (bigger than most of the current Creator scale vehicles). Yeah, its a bit clunky but for it's size - it's still an impressive model.

I'm just hoping there are common parts for the wheel wells and cage to modify for color changes.

Several months ago I wondered if LEGO could possibly improve the 10187 - Volkswagen Beetle due to the lack of it's real curves. The Arvo Brothers managed to render the iconic front pretty well although it lacks curves towards the front of the car. If LEGO manage to find a way to reduce the number of exposed studs on the Beetle design like this one; I wouldn't mind it next in line for Creator large scale vehicle series as long as it has a similar style and scale as the previous three Creator Expert large scale vehicles.

    I was fishing for:

^I think I'm most looking forward to a potential mini VW Bug too. Although when the Ferrari came out, there was no mini attached to it like the Cooper or VW Bus.

And I'll say for $100 - there's no way this will be as large in scale as the previous. Almost to the point that the 10187 could be considered a "UCS" version of the vehicle.

Must have missed this. Quite excited by another Beetle. I was in my dark ages when the first one came out. If they make it in yellow I'll be happy. It'll match mine nicely.

Looks like a curve screen 1303s or, a jeans beetle without stripes.

Plain old 1303. Jeans Beetle was orange.

#10252 - Volkswagen Beetle is due to be announced in a month, which colour do you guys hope it to be? I'll tell you now I want the original Volkswagen Beetle (10187) colour scheme of 140 - Earth Blue and 102 - Medium Blue; if not I'll take 151 - Sand Green!
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,729
^Sand green would make it a must-buy for me but I am pretty sure one of the usual suspects who knows stuff in advance said it would be yellow.
  • fourstudfourstud Member Posts: 1,378
Don't remember if I said it here or not but the new Beetle is supposedly 'California-type with a surfboard'

I'd take a bright red beetle.   I see some dislike towards 10187 got to say I love it though now they can do so much better 10 years later. That being said it was very well designed and has a charm of its own and good colour pattern. But Id like to see lego incorporate the famous curves of the beetle in the new one and this one is going to go well with the rest of the car line. Can't wait for a classic Porsche 911 or 956
