In a bit of a mucking fuddle.
Just walked out of a shop which has the #21017 Imperial hotel at retail and am on the fence with buying it.
Really like the set, and I know it's discontinued and will only go up in price but it is an expenditure that hasn't been taken into consideration this month.
Anyone with any info regarding how bad this set is, to talk me out of buying it would be gratefully received at this point.      :)

Finished on a stay away a day early. Tomorrow is just driving back so no super early wake up needed. Popped to the local TrU and nabbed something to keep me from getting bored in the hotel tonight. They had #60128 for £13. Added a CMF (hopefully Mr Incredible if my squeezing skills are up to the job) And got a free Friends cupcake cart polybag with it. Workmate bought the Ideas Dr Who set and I managed to barter one of the DM giveaways from the other week for the mini City digger polybag.

I just finished building it last night; bought it @ Barnes & Noble last week at MSRP.

It is (not) a boring build, it does (not) look horrible, and it (does not) looks awkward with the rest of the line. You should definitively (not) let this one pass... (Seriously, why are you still reading this and not buying #21017?)

Sorry - couldn't help it! :-) I'd agree with getting the larger set. Small ones tend to fit in with shopping for other things in my experience!

Took your advice as it's such a bad build and with a little bit of negotiation with the boss, am now the proud owner of #21017.

Not to mention its easier to sneak smaller sets past the boss. £50-60 sets can be picked up at 50-75% off. Can't see her believing I get a £160 set for £40!

^I once started looking at how much I'd actually spent on bricklink versus sets. Had to stop for reasons i'm sure others can sympathise with. Turns out my inner parts monkey is a dangerous  powerful force.

the offer is £5 off when you spend £20.
they are 6.99 each. that is £20.97 for 3.
there is no deal to be had on the 4th one i would end up paying full price for it.
well in my eyes i would end up paying full price.

LEGO Minifigures - DFB Series (71014)

LEGO Minifigures - DFB Series 71014

After two trips to the LEGO Brand Store; opening 24 blind bags I finally completed my 'DFB Series' collection!

My first trip was couple of weeks ago, I picked up 16 random bags and got 12 out of the 16. Today I also purchased 16 to get the remaining 4 after opening 8 blind bags in total I finally own a full set!

I'm glad I waited and didn't pay for the remaining four on the secondary market. Just have patience, I was lucky enough to got to the store as soon as they stocked them. The second time really helped having them in person as I could feel for the exact hair pieces of the missing Minifigures and had I ordered them online I wouldn't of had any luck.

How is your 'DFB Series' collection going?

I'm waiting for the June freebie to kick in, #40221 Fountain, and then I'm going to pop along to the Stratford store during my lunch break and buy #60134 Fun in the Park, #70594 The Lighthouse Siege and a large PAB cup of Medium Stone Grey bricks and other little bits, to fill it up nicely.

In the meantime, I pushed the button on the 4 new NEXO Knights Ultimate figures from Smyth's Toys.

Yep, I've already started checking out the prices on Hydira soldiers to bulk up my army.

Plus Elvendale really needs a mountain, and I'm feeling inspired by I build I saw at BrickFair New England...

I think I'm going to need some Lego as a pick-me-up after next week's hospital appointment, so I'm currently comparing several options:

    - the Smyths offer
    - the TRU voucher I just got in the post (£5 off a £30 spend)
    - bundling a few things I want on s@h to trigger the fountain offer, even though it'll mean waiting longer to get the Lego.

The latter is looking like the most sensible and justifiable, but will common sense win out over instant gratification? I may have to compromise by picking up a minifig in TRU before hospital to tide me over...

Have you considered bricklinking something like #10175  to go with your X-Wing?
Would take a bit of time and would take your mind of no OT stuff to buy.
  • xwingpilotxwingpilot Member Posts: 799
I did consider the current TIE Fighter (#75095), but I just don't like the set enough. To be honest, limiting myself to current OT sets I really like will mean periods of not buying. And that's probably a good thing, otherwise I'll run out of display space!

change what you have on display. that what i do.
i have over 150 set's and room to display about 20% of it at this time.  (even if only 10% right now is on display i need to stop procrastinating over sorting out my room.)
the point is i have to rotate what i have on display. true that not as easy to do with the big set's (like my #10218  pet shop MOC. i need to stop procrastinating over making that ones video) but there is fun in setting up a display. it is when you run out of space to store the sets that not on display you need to think hard.

Did good at Target this week, mainly getting cheap sets to part out, but also a couple little things to build.

@Yodalicious what's with the numbers written on the 71014 bags? The series looks very hard to feel and I'm not sure what else they could be

I was like that as a kid, getting mostly ~$10 sets. Now I have several ~$30 and some ~$50. I'm considering Brick Bank ($170) but haven't gotten it. That may be the same dynamic on a larger scale.

Similar here. I got most of the sets I wanted within a couple months of coming out of my dark age. There are some big sets for which I'm waiting on deals. Only a few new sets have appealed to me.

  • xwingpilotxwingpilot Member Posts: 799
change what you have on display. that what i do.
Storing boxes conflicts enough with my aspirations of minimalism* without storing sets too. As I said, there's actually nothing I want right now. It was just the first time in nearly a year (since leaving my dark ages) that I've been in this position...

*With two kids it is unfortunately more of an aspiration than a reality.

My status? Waiting for a 10% off eBay voucher to arrive that I want to use on purchasing some LEGO that doesn't seem to be arriving. Anybody else in the UK sign up to this on eBay with the promise of a voucher and not received it? Anybody know what's up with that? Have I just been tricked to sign up to their stupid mailing list and there is no voucher? Nobody on eBay seems to want to offer any assistance.

(I'm sure there's a better thread to ask this but I can't find it...)

catwrangler: Oh dear, trapped in the quote box! Anyway, I was the same as a kid; I saved for a few £15 - 25 sets but seem to have mostly bought £5-and-under ones, at least until a local Toymaster started heavily discounting in my late teens. So now I remind myself that I don't want the Ultimate Nexo Knights figures, because there are larger things to acquire!

I was moving some large very useful boxes with sets in them around looking for a specific set when I saw the instructions for Iron Man's Lab sitting at the top of one of the boxes.  I never scratched that itch when I printed them and now I'm itching again . . . . . . .

Yes I have and no voucher either
    I am suspecting it's a con

After the debacle of the supposed 20% off offer which never materialised even though I was promised a voucher to replace it by 2 different ebay employees nothing they do surprises me
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
^ I had a £15 off voucher due to me after selling £50 iirc worth of stuff. It came after about 2 months, and expired within 2 days of arriving. When I complained they said it had been sent a week earlier but I showed them my email with the various datestamps. CS were still really crap, saying they couldn't manually send a voucher, no one could etc etc. In the end after ages I got them to refund the ebay fees which was about the same amount but I now wouldn't trust ebay 'offers' like this.
