Summer 2016 sets out already? (31051/52/53)

I thought these hit in August? I was at TRU and they had all three, the light house, treehouse, and camper.

Is this a mistake?

Not really TRU will occasionally put out sets before the official date. It's also the best time to buy from TRU, because after the official release date the TRU markup goes into effect.

I think they are supposed to come out June 1 but l have seen them at a couple of TRUs and picked up a couple. l noticed that the volcano ones seemed popular.

@Batman By checking the Lego website, you'll notice that the Summer Duplo, Juniors, City, and Creator sets are due out tomorrow.

So finding them at Toys R Us this 'early' is pretty likely.

    What's the TRU markup?

They had all the new Star Wars sets out at TRU today so I picked up the Resistance X-Wing with a 20% off coupon

Toys R Us tends to charge more than the MSRP...though oddly they often release early (I think they may be allowed to as they used to put out 'Get them Here first ' ads.) with prices at MSRP. Shortly after the general release they raise prices. Some call it the Toys R Us tax.

Has anyone had any luck finding the new sets anywhere else?  I am usually able to snag a few sets early from one of the big box stores but this time around I am having no luck!

I picked up #75148 Encounter at Jakku and #75149 Resistance X-Wing at one of the TRUs near me. I have been to two TRU stores and they have had different sets out. They both had the larger sets but had varied on the smaller ones from store to store. Previous time my local Lego store would have these out around the same time, but not these, maybe next week or weekend I am guessing.

    I don't know why 75150 w-702 pieces 4 minifigs is $10 more than 75149 w-740 pieces 4 minifigs

Two ships maybe? and of course Darth Vader, obviously TLG is not just pricing on piece count but also on type of pieces some sets have.

I think they are both overpriced.  If I found them for $59, then maybe...I'd think about it a a possible buy

I've seen them all over ebay lately (the star wars sets). What do you think a fair price to pay for the new turbo tank is?

  • ryjayryjay Member Posts: 1,009
I liked the air show #60103.  TRU had that, but still overpriced at the $89.99.  Turbo Tank was out too at $110.00.

Why buy them at target? I've seen them 0.30ish lower than the msrp on ebay with free shipping. So you dodge the dollar or so in sales tax too.

Yes. I've been monitoring sales. But that takes a lot of time and effort sometimes... Is it worth it? Maybe. Can it be worth it? Surely.

5% RedCard helps save in tax and I can get the item in my hands almost immediately with little concern about tampering is worth it to me.

^ I just opened a RedCard and have been enjoying the 5% off each transaction.  Not that it will create a huge momentum shift in my purchasing patterns but something I'll be sure to take note of going forward.

Be careful. If new, in production sets are cheaper than rrp on eBay there is a high chance they are drop shipping to you with a stolen credit card.

Make sure to check the feedback!  If the deal appears too good to be true, it might be.

Long story short, unless a seller is highly motivated to sell a set below RRP, be vigilant.

(Lego also has policies strongly frustrating retailers from selling on eBay below the RRP.  Whomever is still left as independent toy store also are subject to such policies.)

Smyths had loads of 76057 on their shelves at £89.99 and they had that £5 off voucher too. Tempting.
  • ThoughtsonblocksThoughtsonblocks Member Posts: 178
So now the big question isn't who will have them out early, it is who will have them out on time, especially among big retailers that are notoriously bad at stocking their shelves with new product in a timely manner...

#76057 is only Europe so far?  When will the US be getting that one.
