Sets that aren't minifig scale usually aren't my thing, but if this thing really is $249, I may be in. Hard to believe it'd be that price though. But we have been surprised at leaked prices before too and they turned out to be true. Of course, that's usually when they're higher than we believed they should be.

Perhaps Tower Bridge didn't sell as well as we imagine, which might then have had something to do with it hanging around for so long.

I also think they've goofed with the timing. A tourist goes to London; somewhere on the list of must-sees is "Big Ben", potentially leading to buying the set either in one of the Central London stores or back home. The trouble is that, for much of the next three years, nobody is going to see the original because it'll be covered in scaffolding.

They also have to compete with the Wange version.

Just saw the pics...holy moly, that's impressive. Makes it a bit easier to say "no" to some other sets, seeing that coming down the line (which is exactly why they hate leaks and stagger releases, but....what are you going to do?)!

^^ To be honest , the Wange version was not too shabby at all. Leaving clutch aside , aesthetically it was impressive , I always have ppl stop and look at it. It stands at about 26-28" and well detailed with near total snot work. Lol I meant SNOT work

i am really interested to know the height of the tower. I hope it trumps Wange, in which case I will definitely by this on priority , else I'll buy this , but in time .

Before I get stone walled about the above , I'd definitely add that I'm have no doubt that the lego version will be overall far superior just by virtue of quality , finesse and instructions but just wanted comment on the merits of the existing large scale version currently available .

Ive been squeezing my eyes to pick out the dimensions on that photo of the box front. Nothing ! But at near 4200 pieces , I'm salivating in anticipation

i also feel , anyone who has the TB , this becomes an automatic mandatory buy for them

The back of the box photo shows an adult hand operating a knob to make the hands of the clock move. I tried putting my hand in front of my Town Hall in a similar position as that photo. By using that photo as a reference Big Ben appears to be taller than the Town Hall.
My guess is that it is about 55-60 bricks tall.
Even though it isn't minifig scale I think the tower portion could look really good in a City setup.

@Lego91 Having only recently started buying Lego I have already considered that. Although buying and building smaller sets has been fun ultimately I like the larger sets 1500 pieces and greater.

I think it'll be priced along the lines of GB Firehouse. $350 and £275. Dream on those that think you'll be able to pick it up sub £200.

Am I the only one with a ruler?

The blue baseplate is 8 x 16. That means the overall size looks to be 56 x 24 (at the tower end) / 16 (at the river end). That's 45 x 19 / 13 cm. The overall height works out at being 60 cm. The roof of the actual building is about 20 cm high.

Yep, I think we can safely add an extra '100' on to each of the previously quoted figures. Still, contrary to a few recent releases, this at least looks like it might actually be worth it...

This set look great, its the landmark set that looks most like an architecture set.

I was worried when I heard it would cost less than Tower Bridge (doesn't look likely now) that they wouldn't look good together but they seem to match up in size quite well.

The biggest compliment I can give it is that I don't look at it and start to think about how I can mod it. Tower Bridge needed to be longer and looks silly when the bridge is open but this looks very accurate.

Looks like the build will be enlivened by a "working" clock. The back panel shows a clock time adjustment dial. Anyone planning on putting a motor on it and making it a working time piece? Would it fit on a mantel?

I fully expected this to be $350 until all these comments spilled out about a $250 price range, that would make it an instant buy for me as $100 goes a long way towards the rest of my lego needs for 2016. Here's hoping **fingers crossed** I wake up to good news on my day off!

I have the Wange version. Ironically, I only bought it because I never thought Lego would make a version that size.

For 40 quid, the Wange version is pretty good, but the Lego version certainly looks nicer and will no doubt be replacing mine as soon as it's released!

Hmmm.....£169.99 seems like an amazing price. Given that the Standard article also states that the company is German, I`m not really sure where they are getting their information from - may be the author read this forum, which said it would be £169.99, and just used that information.

£170 is so cheap (can't quite believe i'm saying that) and so out of whack to the US price (for LEGO) but presumably the press release is out there, think we'd have heard by now if it was not the listed price (although they've changed between press release and set release before now too!).

I wasn't that bothered with this set but with a nice discount i'm in.

There looks to be large quantities of quite a few elements...!

Slight shame that they have the bell positioned behind the clock faces, when in fact it's a little bit higher up, but I guess there's more room behind the clock faces.
