Notably: Pirates, the theme that this is from started in 1989 and was the first series to have specialized printed faces. The face that you have on the figure would be any non-pirate minifigure from the same year (1989) (assuming that it has a solid stud with the Lego logo on the top).

unfortunately, I sold mine about 8 years ago only to get back into Lego a couple of years later. Wish I still had the pirate theme. Amazing sets.
