Shame Batman doesn't come with a desert coloured cowl.

^ Yep that's the biggest disappointment for me, its what made Arctic Batman so good.

I dunno, I like it - the pit could be bigger (or at least have more structure around it), but I quite like the building, I find it's got a lot of character for its small size. The buggy's fine by me, I'd be happy to add it to my batcave: it's not a rehash of something already there (i.e. another bloody batcycle), nor is it outright silly like the bat-mech or that bat-tank-what thing in the upcoming Killer Croc set.

Would've been nice to see someone other than Robin, just because there are plenty already (with the League of Assassins theme, a Cassandra Cain Batgirl would have been very cool) but with Ra's and Talia, and Bats himself (I loves me some variant batsuits) the minifig selection is looking pretty swish so I'm not bothered.

If Batman is in a set, he must have a vehicle. I think it's in the DC rulebook, or something. Even when chasing Catwoman he had a jetpack...

Ok, so I'm a bit stuck with the Space Batman included with Green Lantern, but I think the designers intended the spaceship to be used by him. GL has his ring, he doesn't need a ship!

There's also Arkham Asylum skirting in with another jetpack. #76044 seems to be the only outright exception, with Bats just having his little rooftop platform.

^^ I agree. Batman is somewhat of a crutch for the designers of the DC sets. If he's there, the set gets a Bat-vehicle. If you compare the DC sets to the Marvel ones, I don't really see where the DC sets are vastly better because Batman has a vehicle.

That grapple gun is a form of transport. It's on all the trailers (in case you haven't seen the film itself).

I like this set. If I remember Damians conception right, Bats was naked except for his cowl when he layed with Talia. Grant Morrison is great!

Yep, they're brilliant! All three heroes appear in classic vehicles (including the ever-cheesy Supermobile), and Killer Moth and Bizarro have great vehicles too (Bizarro's is literally Superman's flipped backwards)! I'm a little underwhelmed by Doomsday's vehicle but that might just be because I'm not as familiar with him as a character. Some people will surely be disappointed that Doomsday's first set appearance will be as a cartoony Mighty Micros version, but maybe there'll be a regular-size minifigure version of him in next year's sets as well.

Love this subtheme even more now!
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
So sad to see a 2nd wave of these Micro SH sets. A travesty for Bizarro and Doomsday to appear as kiddy fodder instead of true minifigs.
  • ricardo616ricardo616 Member Posts: 44
I don't care if it's "kiddy fodder" I love them, well, the DC ones anyway, the first wave of Marvel ones didn't do much for me (but I've always been a bigger DC fan anyway). Sure, it would be nice to own a "proper" Bizarro and Doomsday, but I've collected so much junk of these characters over the years I appreciate something different and a bit weird. I'm also personally extremely happy to see its all very influenced by classic DC, rather than post New 52.

Sweet. More figures and pieces for my Joker bumper car ride. I may need to expand it to a bigger base plate.

I wonder why the design of the batmobile has to change that drastically and that often?
also it has harley quinn's colors??

I <3 Harley!!  So cool! Love the printed baseball bat, Joker's new hair,  Batgirls printed boots, gold chicken and zebra stripe chairs.
Plus those doll type faces are very intriguing.

Always like animals in new colours!

I've read on EB that the new penguin mould has a stud on its back...  I'm thinking it will be reused in the Batman movie with a missile launched like in Batman Returns. Which means I can update my Arctic World moc :-)

The design of the Batmobile usually doesn't have to change for any story-related reason (though there are exceptions, such as stories where one Batmobile is destroyed and Batman has to replace it). But Batman sells better than any other DC Super Heroes and is one of the only superheroes who officially has his own fleet of conspicuously branded vehicles (other heroes usually have just one or two signature vehicles or, if they're rich enough, a fleet of more generic vehicles). If toy companies didn't give Batman new vehicles, then they'd have to resort to releasing the same vehicle over and over again, because as long as they have the DC Comics license, not having new Batman toys on shelves isn't really an option.

Even ignoring the toy sales motivation, a lot of artists and designers assigned to the Batman comics, cartoons, and movies just really enjoy creating their own spin on Batman's vehicles. And red and black versions of the Batmobile have been around for as long as there's been a Batmobile. This site makes for a good read if you ever find yourself with a lot of time to kill.

Anyway, I was not expecting to see the Kabuki twins from The Batman cartoon, since they haven't really been in anything else. I guess this proves that the interviews talking about the movie taking cues from all versions of Batman weren't just lip service!

The biggest disappointment for me in these two sets is Man-Bat, not because he's a bad design but rather because all the other characters we've seen in sets or stills feel like such fresh takes on the characters, and Man-Bat just looks like the previous Man-Bat figure.

I can't tell what the click hinges on the Batmobile's wheels are for. Parallel parking? Given the movie's sense of humor in the trailers that honestly wouldn't surprise me. :P

Love the Joker's low rider. Can't wait for the instructions to find out what other colors it can be made in. Hopefully a dark red one is possible. Wonder what other printed tiles or stickers I can find for the seats.

I was right! That article also confirms that it can switch into "monster truck mode", probably by rotating the "arms" downward. so the wheels are under the vehicle instead of in front and behind.

@bendybadger those legs have multiple uses, you know how LEGO likes to reuse new parts they make.

I think it's supposed to be something like this,

But  it looks like more of a g-string than shorts without some leg printing.

Supposedly the LEGO Robin origin story involves taking one of Batman's old suits (Reggae Man - from a Caribbean adventure) but doesn't like the trousers so takes them off.

Knightmare Batman is finally being made into a minfig!

Sadly, with the way the DCU is panning out, we may never get to see any of the nightmare scenes from Batman v Superman realised in a future movie... and therefore no Darkseid.

Nice job on the Zombie Thread Resurrection.  Kinda like a certain Man of Steel.

I don't really want to see any of those post-apocalyptic scenes.  Or re-live any of the pre-apocalyptic scenes.

I know what he's supposed to be from, but the outfit will also make a pretty decent steampunk version of Batman as well.

I couldn't put my finger on it, but I now realize that LEGO really missed an opprotunity to make some nice Halo figures through the Aquaman movie.

(I would be remiss if I didn't mention the movie looks terrible.  I wasn't a big fan of Thor, initially, but this version of that story worries me.)

^ That's an interesting observation.  I'll have to venture out to a theatre to confirm.

(Admittedly, there are a few repetitive formulas for plots of these movies.)

Yeah but from the trailers this really stands out as very very similar (for the record Black Panther is my least favorite Marvel movie in a while so I'm not saying that this is a good thing. I did like Thor 1, but I don't aeeaeethe similarity in aquaman)

On the other hand I have heard positive reactions for Aquaman, so hopefully it's good, I may see it if it ends up with good ratings but I don't trust DC enough to watch it otherwise. Far more excited for into the spiderverse

Yea, I’m weird in the sense that the only DCEU movie I’ve disliked in the current reboot is Justice League. So, I’m guessing I’ll enjoy Aquaman. That said, I keep low expectations, and therefore I can only be pleasantly surprised.

I also didn't like Suicide Squad very much. But Justice League was definitely a huge disappointment, it had so much potential.

I must admit - although I find the DCEU to be a complete dumpster fire from beginning to end - there are moments in a few of the movies that give me hope they can be as enjoyable as the MCU.

Man of Steel and Wonder Woman are the best of the lot, but have mammoth flaws that undermine their very cores.  (The heart of MoS is Clark maintaining his humility growing up, and WW is her conviction to maintain the greater good.  MoS turned into a special effect mess, WW's best character was Steve Trevor.)

BvS is a mess and Superman actually died.  Beyond ridiculous.

Anyway, I'm still perplexed as to why the Aquaman movie is being released AFTER JL.  I'm not some sort of James Cameron film genius, but it don't take much smarts to introduce your super-team before doing the team-up movie?

It also bothers me that they show him in the throwback orange in the trailer.  Why?  Do they think Aquaman fans are going to skip the movie if he only appears as a tattooed sea-biker?

  • ReesesPiecesReesesPieces Member Posts: 1,120
The green and orange costume was probably "suggested" by the WB upper ups to Marvelize the DCU and make it not so dark.  I actually enjoyed the first half of all three movies (MOS, BVS, WW) but the endings were subpar.  I still don't mind them for what they are and definitely enjoyed the fact that they were different than the Marvel movies.  Kind of disappointed that early reviews Re saying aquaman is like a Marvel movie.
