A massive Technic roller coaster could be sweet. After typing that thought out I went to Google to make sure it didn't already exist, and I find out there's an actual "Technic" roller coaster at one of the theme parks?? Heh.

for me it would have to be a UCS scale Batman Tumbler! i know they have made it already in a set (7888) but IMO it lends itself to being made as a larger model. lots of technic building under the shell with heavy focus on functioning parts (maybe even PF included). ahhhh, one can dream....

I can't say there's any single set I'd like to see; I can always build something if I really want it. There are themes I would love if Lego did though because it would likely result in new molds and prints. Chief amongst these would be a Roman theme, naturally given my field, and a Star Trek license. So, something in either of those would be my choice.

As seen in Chapter 56 - Glued LEGO Retailer Display Models of my LEGO Collectors Guide.... a 1963 version of the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament) made completely in LEGO.

Of course TLG no longer makes 1x1x1, 1x1x2 and 1x2x2 windows anymore...

^^ A James Bond theme would be amazing - think of all the gadget laden vehicles and bases they could do (from the older films not the rubbish that passes for Bond these days!)
Also I agree with previous posts about cruise liners and paddle steamers etc. Maybe Lego could do a 'Ship' Theme with various styles ranging from smaller pleasure/official vessels to great big cruise liners old and new!

In the theme of this discussion... just look at the entire 1979-89 Fabuland series of sets.... they had everything from an amusement park to a town hall to a fire station to a country store...

Giant detailed Haunted house.
Any military vehicles. Sonic boom is pretty much military apart form the colour scheme.
Mosaic designs with a backing plate and frame that can be hung up.
Gladiator battle theme. Including arena and animals.
Historical scene theme, where certain historical moment such as Martin Luther King Jrs Speech, the Berlin wall being torn down, moonlanding, etc are recreated in a diorama style.

I've just skimmed through this entire thread. There should be some very happy people out there as some of the ideas put forward are/will be happening soon: LOTR, monster fighters, Superheroes.

As I posted in a different discussion, my wants are: zoo/safari/aquarium, amusement park/funfair, cinema, bowling alley, school (mostly city stuff).

As for a new theme, I like the idea of a historical range where each set depicts a scene/building from a different era: Roman, Viking, Mediaeval, Tudor, Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian. That would also tie in nicely with some of the various history topics covered in the schools national curriculum (uk) so could be marketed under the education banner.

^ great idea.. funny, was just discussing something similar last night, whilst building MMV, about how good it is for teaching kids about old technologies .. in MMV's case the water powered trip hammer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trip_hammer). It wouldnt be difficult to include some photos of real ones in the instruction book.

Or, someone could produce a book to go alongside all the sets, discussing the real history behind them .. 'how to use lego for historical teaching' hmmmm, maybe I should leave my job ...

^^^ Lego have done similar~ish things in the past. The city:arctic range for example had little sections within the instructions explaining some of the equipment used in the arctic and i think some of the history and challenges of arctic exploration as well. It was a nice little distraction whilst I raced through the build.

Lego in education is interesting though, like many I know that my lego obsession as a child led me to do Engineering at University (I think I even stated so in my admission interview). I now work in a University and some of my colleagues get to go into schools with bucketloads of Mindstorm - sounds like a good idea to me! Also my children in the early years of primary education get to play with lego as a means of encouraging their creativity in class (I wish I'ld been able to do that when I was their age!).

But I do wonder how much real use (given the cost) historical building sets would be within an educational setting. They'ld have to be historically accurate and very well detailed, building interiors etc, to be of use and that would ramp up their cost considerably. Also they'd be so specific to a particular place/time that within an educational theme like the romans, egyptians, modern european history (yawn) that it would only be relevant for a tiny proportion of the teaching.

I was thinking a similar educational train of thought with my historical theme. I would image it being presented similar to the architecture range with the thicker booklet. It may not appeal to everyone, but the architecture range is very specific, as I had never seen quite a few of them, and would not have recognised most of them if the name wasn't listed.

New one to add. A big Trojan Horse!

I think the out of the box ideas are no where close to where they could be yet. Imagine if someone said they wanted ninjas flying snake helicopters or snake cranes prior to the Nijago 2012 range.

I know somone already mentioned a rollercoaster. But how about an Amusement Park Theme. Each year 1 or 2 "rides" are introduced - in the neighborhood of 1,000-2,000 parts each. This could go on for years.

Geez, one of K'nex most popular items is that rollercoaster (my Wal-Mart had one on display at Xmas). I know several people that have bought and liked it. Imagine a Lego one. I know creating new parts is probably part of the problem, but still.

Lego will soon be coming out with seven Lord of the Rings sets.
I think they should make way more than seven.
Lord of the Rings should be somthing big in Lego like Star Wars or somthing.

Here are some suggestions to some sets they should have:

The Fellowship of the Ring:

Buckleberry ferry: A small set with a dock, a ferry boat, some hobbits, and a black rider.

The prancing pony: A 40-50 dollar set with a building that opens up having two bedrooms on top and the tavern below. It should have the Strider (Aragorn) and the bar keeper, some ring wraiths, some hobbits.

The council of Elrond: a ring of seats with the whole fellowship and Elrond, with the ring in the center.

The bridge of Khazad-dum: the Belrog, the bridge, some of the fellowship.

The mirror of Galadriel: Frodo, Gladriel, and the mirror.

The ruins where Aragorn fights of a lot of orcs on his own: Aragorn, Some orcs, Frodo, the Ruins.

The two Towers:

Treebeard: Treebeard, Mary, and Pippin.

The Warg attack: A warg, some Rohirim, Legolas, Gimli, Aragorn.

The forbidden pool: Frodo, Smeagol, some Gondorian Rangers.

The Return of the King:

Mount Doom: The doorway of the mountain with a ledge, Frodo, Sam, Smeagol.

Lego will also make Hobbit sets once the movies come out.
Here are the sets they should make for that:

Bag End in Hobbiton: the hill the Bilbo lives in that would pivet open to reveal a table, a fire, a small kitchen, Bilbo, some dwarfs, and Gandalf.

The Trolls camp ground: Three trolls, Gandalf, Bilbo, some dwarfs.

The goblin caves: Goblin king, two goblins, some dwarfs, Bilbo.

Riddles in the dark: Smeagol, Bilbo, Smeagols hut.

Beorns Hall: a big 100 dollar set with Beorn (who would be big like Hagrid) and Gandalf and Bilbo and some dwarfs.

The lonely mountain: the dragon, some dwarfs, Gandalf, Bilbo.

Lake Town: a 100 dollar set with some lake town men, boats, the town, and a dragon, and Bart the Bowman.

The battle of five armies: With Beorn in his bear form. and some men, dwarfs, goblins, eagles.

Think Si_dorking_uk already mentioned this way back but a Canal barge would be great. Picture it being about the length of the Maersk container ship. Perfect for minifigs, all the flower pots on the roof, cabins, cooker, tables etc. Would be a great build!

I actually would like some more in-house themes, as I will demonstrate. I really though "Monster Fighters" was going to be a kaiju type setting since the had made strides with the dinosaurs in Dino. I'm thinking in terms of 6 sets (standard for waves I guess). My piece counts and prices aren't what I would WANT, but what I think Lego would charge un my insane fantasy land of near reality. Each set would take place on a different inhabited continent (if in Antarctica, we would have the Mountains of Madness/the Thing...which I'd like as another fantasy set...)

The story would be some crazy thieves found the kaiju on a Monster Island type place, but stole the an ancient artifact that keeps them enclosed on said island. They are about to leave, and find the Baby kaiju egg in the jungle. They hop on the plane out, and the big daddy/momma kaiju chases to mainland while the other monsters can now escape. Back on mainland, they enter restricted airspace in South America and are shot down. The artifact is broken into 6 pieces from the blast and land in various places around the country. Different groups of people (related to each set) find each piece and take them. Now the Monsters have started attacking cities around the world, so the HRS (Humanity Rescue Squad) are going everywhere to save the world and collect the broken pieces (they are aware of the stone after the ADU captured Hypaxxus-8 and were aware that he planned to release these guys too. I mean whatever, it was fun tying in the others and this is my fantasy release!).

11.99- Baby kaiju/monster and handler, plus agent. 94 pieces
This would be like (yup) Baby Godzilla from the Heisei series, maybe a hatching pod. A nice lady scientist doing paleontological digs in South America finds the egg and helps hatch it in her lab back in the US. This will have a piece of the stone that was next to the egg, and is the lead the HRS has to try and find the others. They glow when another piece is near. Or something. This is South America.

19.99 Flying Monster attack on Village 178 pieces
This will be a monster attacking some type of village in another country. The piece was found by a missionary or traveller or something and the monster attacked. I would prefer a Mothra type here (let's be real, Dino is Jurassic Park, Monster Fighters is Van Helsing/Monster Squad, Pharaoh's Quest is The Mummy, let's have comparisons to make this easier). But I would understand a Rodan since they have 2 Pteradon bodies made already. This would have the traveller that took the stone, and and 2 HRS agents. This would be Australia.

34.99 Underwater Destruction 315 pieces
This will be the sea creature. It can be a Nessie type, or it can be some kind of squid monster, I'm not here for design purposes, but an underwater set is definite for this theme. This would be the Africa based setting, near a coast. A marine bay, with the taker of the piece, 2 agents, and a civilian sailor guy (to be eaten of course, but not on the box...). A boat for the Agents would be great, maybe a high tech spear weapon.

49.99 Monument Collision!
This would feature an Aguirus/Gamera armored monster (spikes preferably) that is attacking some type of European monument, or as close as they could get legally. Big Ben? Eiffel Tower? Stonehedge? Red Square? Something fun. This would have 2 agents, in some type of Mech suit to attack the larger monster (controlled by both), and a gangster thief that took the piece. Also, 2 civilians. Can't get enough of those, maybe with cameras? This is Europe.

69.99 Ape-tastic Demolition!
This would be the King Kong type. Now, I'm thinking most would want a King Kong type in this series, I could live with out it (I'd rather a Gigan type, but that wouldn't have broad appeal and would be WAY too close to Godzilla) so this would be New York. Let's have a building for the large primate to climb, a male agent, the kid that took the piece while in South America, and a flying vehicle for a female pilot used to combat the ape. This is North America.

99.99 Oh No There goes Tokyo!
Here is the set we are all waiting for, the Main Monster that is looking for the baby comes to Asia. Lets have a city play set, full of small buildings and a large skyscraper. Flames to erupt from the large Godzilla type monster. 4 agents in this, plus the mad cap scientist that took the piece from South America. 2 civilians as well, lets go mini fig crazy and populate the city! Let's have some kind of armored vehicle/tank/car to combat the monster, with 2 drivers, and a flying pod/jetpack for another agent.

Then all the pieces can combine to make the creatures docile until they are taken back to the monster island. The baby goes back. You can always have another egg be left for a 2nd wave.

Target Exclusive: 29.99 Teenage Monster in the Jungle
The baby grows up rapidly due to a serum a bad guy that tries to steal him gives to knock the baby out, and is now mid sized, running around the jungle. Lets have a jeep, the scientist lady that found the egg with an exasperated expression, and 2 HRS agents. Will have a couple of trees, maybe a net, and an action on the tree.

Polybag- Agent with flying surfboard
Polybag- Smaller Dragon type of monster.

So there is my dream set. A wave 2 would have a mechagodizlla and other crazy monsters. that was fun, excellent for days off work!

Yeah a BTTF theme would be cool and with the annivesary of BTTF coming up in 2015, it could become a possible set. Also with the support for Back to the Future on cuusoo nearing 4,000, im pretty sure it can get 10,000 in less than 3 years.

I don't see why a Historical Educational theme couldn't work. Playmobil did it with Romans and Egyptians, Those were being marketed to schools, and were on sale at museums etc.

medieval city walls. These could be streteches of differenet bits of walls with shops and houses attached that could then be clipped together to form a huge outer wall to encompase your village or town and give more houses and shops. such as a bakers, clothes shop, market stalls, taverns. And of course plenty of mini figs.

I'd like to see an oldfashioned butcher shop (hoping CMF series 6 butcher is an indication) next to a barbershop. What fun a person could have with three dogs and a cat behind the butcher shop. Curved glass display cases (new mould needed?) to show off the different cuts of meat? and a barber pole that, with some technic work, could rotate? male minifigs going into barber with surfer hair or beards, coming out clean shaven and cleancut.

Also, would love to see a magazine/newspaper stand.
