    Hey folks!

I wanted to make sure everyone saw my most recent update to my UFO Encounter idea over at https://ideas.lego.com/projects/138574/updates

Mr. Roy mentioned in the comments on my project page that the hiker should have a selfie stick, so I added one to the set so that my hiker could take a photo with his new found friend.

    Check it out!

I'm trying to do a little push over the weekend, to see if I can make it to 200 supporters!

My next update will hopefully be crafting some kind of interior to the UFO for the alien, but it may not be possible. We'll see!

Let me know if you have any other ideas for future updates that enhance the set!

    Hello again!

I just added a new update to my UFO Encounter idea over at https://ideas.lego.com/projects/138574/updates

A few people mentioned that they wished that the alien could fit inside the craft, so with a little work, it now can!

Go check out the new pics!

I'm thinkin' about another update this week, and am wondering if I can get a beam of light added to the set in a non-corny way...

My LEGO IDEAS project is 4 months old now but I would really love it if it would move rapidly from 723 votes up. It's just stuck there now and I believe it is a model worth of ending as a set. Would you please look at it and at least tell me where to actually search for people who would help me out with this? Thanx, people

Try contacting groups interested in classic cars? Don't limit yourself to toy collectors; try to bring in people outside the Lego community. Good luck!

Thanx but I've already done that. I've contacted KG clubs as many as I could've found. Oh, well. I'll keep on searching

Hi again! I don't know if reposting is ok, but LEGO ROBLOX is just about at 5,000 supporters and really needs the extra boost. ROBLOX themselves have advertised a few times, but after they do, it falls flat again. Help would be awesome! Thank you!

Welp, I just made my first submission! It's awaiting approval, but it would be really cool to get some support once it is approved. And if somebody can link me to a Custom LDD Sticker Designer for Dummies, I would greatly appreciate it! The set needs a few.

It's a 3569 piece recreation of a U.S. Post Office and includes all the detail you would find if you took a tour of a functioning Office all the way down to the time clock on the wall!

Any ideas how I can get my 'Clockwork Robot' project closer to 5,000 supporters in 30 days? (Nothing is impossible!)

If you look at the updates page you'll find that I have already have tons of ideas and concepts that I used to promote the project yet they only done 10% of the job.

Any suggestions and concepts would be greatly appreciated. If not I guess the only way it will happen is if every individual shares this project with friends, families and on social media.

Honestly this should have more than it does. I was just looking at this again yesterday, this is sooo cool and reminds me of the CREATOR sets. This looks like it could be done, really.

Apparently if you made it so it was constructed from lions...

I personally love your clockwork robot and have shared it a couple of times on my Facebook (for what that's worth). Being a child of the '70's this brings back a lot of nostalgia.

Theres a healthy robot collector community with a lot of collectors of this type of robot here

You might try drumming up support there?

Seems in some cases, that 10 000 vote thing gets in the way of progress. The model is legit and worthy of the CREATOR label, if not ideas.  Heh...it's like Lego is using the Philadelphia 76ers/(Eagles) GM to pick out the good stuff.

    Least with Ideas.

Honestly I like the robot - it could literally be a creator set - the colours, the look etc and you should (and am sure you do) absolutely take huge pride in that, its as good as an official creator set and wouldn't look out of place on the shelf. But that's in part the problem - why waste an ideas set on a standard creator set that you get about three of each year? None of those are the sort of set that will get lots of people that excited, and nor is this. The quality of your design, the way it meets the criteria you set at the outset, everything about it means its a great demonstrator for if you ever applied for a job with LEGO but sadly not a great ideas set.

I applaud you for being completely honest regarding both my project and the Clockwork Robot MOC. I would completely agree with you regarding it being a great example of fitting seamlessly with the LEGO brand values and the Creator theme however it's not a good concept for an Ideas product; it doesn't express that innovative and unique factor of being an Ideas set.

Surprisingly Blocks Magazine, Issue 16 (February 2016) does feature my Clockwork Robot however it doesn't mention any aspect of it being a project on LEGO Ideas; just as a sample of my work along with my first Helicarrier MOC which is also an Ideas project which has since been expired.

I'm sure you've heard this already, but that mini-helicarrier looks really good. I supported your Robot Idea over a year ago, before I even knew about Brickset. I'm not very active on many social media platforms, but I hope you get to 5000 and then onwards!

It's way too regional to be successful. You probably ought to be more consistent with the images too. In some the hull is RNLI branded and coloured, in others plain orange.

I'm not sure it really goes beyond the normal boats they (lego) put out either, it looks fairly similar to the regular power boat offerings.

There's some awesome projects on here I hadn't seen before! Followed and supported many of them, and I plan on taking a look at more after I get back from work here soon. I added my updated of the classic yellow castle last Friday! Check it out:

I plan on aggressively updating it and I've already worked on reducing the piece count, updating the colors, and making a tent to fit inside for a yet-to-be-added king (and maybe queen)!

Even with all the added fluff, it's under 1000 pieces. I've put a lot into making sure it was reminiscent of the original, while updating it and increasing the play features. Check out more images on the ideas page!

wonder how it would look in tan. or maybe just more colors.
  • FlanBrosIncFlanBrosInc Member Posts: 37
Well, I tried cool yellow but it just looked like a sand castle. I think the issue is that it doesn't have enough colours mixed with the others, which is something I need to work on. I'm planning on adding some details to the walls, like this.

It's a bad time for a project like this, I imagine. Releasing another ion cannon with Assault on Hoth still available would be like releasing another 60s Batmobile with the Batcave set still available. It doesn't matter if the Ideas version is "better" (especially in this case, since this model uses a windscreen part that hasn't been in production in years). It'd still be competing directly with a recently-released product.

But if it got supported, even if it didn't get made, might give TLG a bit of a kick concerning the one that did get made and that some are unhappy with it.

I think they've gotten enough of a kick about that as it is. I guarantee you the designers are well aware of all the negative comments about it on forums and social media. They don't live in a bubble where AFOL reactions don't reach or influence them. Particularly not the designers who work on sets for ages 12+.

All that remains to be seen is how well the set actually sells because/in spite of those negative reactions. And either way, a LEGO Ideas project that gets rejected in review isn't likely to change their strategy going forward. All it'd tell them is that there are a lot of AFOLs who dislike the Assault on Hoth set, which they basically already know.
  • bandit778bandit778 Member Posts: 2,382
I agree and don't doubt for a minute that they are aware of the fact.
All I'm saying is it would be nice if it was recognised by them that although "Assault on Hoth" isn't what it could have been, people would still pay, whether it's a be a big display piece or a line of sets to make a big display piece, if it is well done.

An individual suggested to resubmit Clockwork Robot to LEGO Ideas once it expires. Do you guys think it's worth it? Over the past year and a half I've generated much better content for this project then I did when I initially submitted it; especially better graphics and photographs to replace that horrible thumbnail! I have many more concepts and ideas based around this project for round two!

Is it worth pursuing this concept further or should I just move on?
