dunno if that's a red flag, but I wouldn't buy from malaysia anyway. and I would expect the shipping price is even more expensive than the falcon.

    that is a good point.
it dont save what shipping is on a ended sale do it?

if it was free, from malaysia, there is one more red flag. and a Big one at that.
it reminds me of "lego star wars droid tales episode 1" and what watto is doing in that episode. lol

Look, the Tumbler. Look again. Ahhhh, my eyes!!!

    its not even cheap.
  • FauchFauch Member Posts: 2,712
did someone photoshop a decool logo on the tumbler box? I would guess the guy doesn't even own the set, clone brand or not...
  • TigerMothTigerMoth Member Posts: 2,343
It's interesting that the picture is of the genuine set, with an overprinted change of brand, not of the clone.

For one thing, it's got the wrong set number, but the actual clone has the logo square to the box, not to the picture, doesn't have a piece count or "DC COMICS", and has a "stamp" in Chinese. Buy it from eBay, and what's shown is definitely not what you'll get, because what's shown doesn't exist.

    It exists alright.
these clone brands seem to be getting greedy... £120 for a clone!
the seller has posted lots of pics, including close ups of the wheels.

You've misunderstood. The box shown in the eBay listing doesn't exist - it's pure Photoshop. I'm fully aware that there is Decool 7111.
  • LuLegoLuLego Member Posts: 1,010
Oh I see now what you meant! Sorry.

yeah the lead photo isn't the product photo. Deliberately misleading.
And it certainly made me do a double take as for 2 seconds, i thought it was Lego. Surely if anyone buys one at £120 it must be though mistaking it for the real thing and thinking they're getting a bargain. I can't imagine anyone knowingly paying that price for a fake when you can pick up a used real set for around that price or not too much more.
  • TigerMothTigerMoth Member Posts: 2,343
This isn't the right place, but the clones are getting more adventurous.

The Tumbler is obviously targeted at the high-end that TLG have themselves aimed at, so a high price isn't surprising - although it's still quite a bit cheaper than the original.

Something else likely to cause comment for a different reason (it's not actually a copy) is a 10000+ piece modular-style set.

Arendelle Castle, Temple of Airjitzu, Angry Birds, you name it, have all been duplicated, more or less exactly.

The Guangzhou toy fair was a couple of weeks ago, and a lot of these sets surfaced for that. I think many people would be rather shocked if they Googled for photos from that event.

If anyone gets one I would be curious as to how they look and how the pieces fit. That being said I would never buy one. Neat to have so I could allow my little cousins to play with rather than try and explain why they can't handle my baby, but no way would I buy an off brand UCS model. That kind of defeats the purpose.
  • andheandhe Member Posts: 4,004
@Jackad7 put decool tumbler into YouTube and you'll find a selection of reviews.

On the whole, these 'cloned sets' tend to look ok at a distance but are a nightmare to build due to poor instructions and clutch.

There's no reason for poor clutch, so it's getting better and depends on the manufacturer. The instructions? They're copying them now.

Of course there is a reason- precision molding is expensive, and clone brands generally try to be as cheap as possible. Otherwise, what incentive could they possibly have for people to buy them?

Yes and no. A precision mould (not the process) is expensive, but it's only part of the cost. Some clone manufacturers have realised that it still works out as only being a small part of the total cost, and therefore sometimes worthwhile. It's certainly not something that is beyond clone manufacturers. It's simply a choice.
and clone brands generally try to be as cheap as possible.
That's not what we were discussing. A question was raised regarding the high price of the clone tumbler. We're no longer talking about cheap clones aimed at parents of children. The clone manufacturers have started to look at the premium end of the market and I doubt that they're stupid enough to think they can do that without upping their game - and there is no reason why they can't.

Guangzhou may mark the start of a new twist in this saga.

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=282021284522&alt=web How did they get the actual set number correct if they're not even selling legos??
  • JudgeChuckJudgeChuck Member Posts: 1,591
I'm not an expert on selling on eBay, but surely this must be incorrect:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEGO-40139-Christmas-Gingerbread-House-NEW-AND-SEALED-/281863068580?hash=item41a0591ba4:g:LscAAOSwbdpWUFeB

This is about the most expensive I have seen this item and there are plenty available for more realistic prices, but he claims to have sold 30 of them! I know that you can sell multiple items within one listing, of course, but can you fiddle the numbers sold to make your listing look more popular?
Either that, or there a lot of loons around... ;-)

No, but as I understand it you can increase the price during the sale and it doesn't reset the number sold. If you check the sold items they're all around the £25 mark.

With none of the expensive and rare parts included in the sale, it's nt worth anything like £650.  And the substituted parts in the base are laughable.

When complete and built as intended, the model is a thing of beauty.

^yeah it is beautiful until the beast falls over.  Those feet joints are a little fragile if you get the centre of balance wrong.  Also to keep on topic the model he has does not have the end back fex pieces which can be a little pricy.
  • JudgeChuckJudgeChuck Member Posts: 1,591
Their account is called "shop4444bargains"... Obviously they don't have bargains like "shop4bargains" or even "shop44bargains". Ah well... ;-)

Do you think these sellers get excited by their listings being flagged as "xx viewed per hour", when it's us lot taking a gander for a bit of a chuckle? ;-)

Wow, that is one heck of a markup. Maybe it's being sold by shop4444bargins because their goal is to jack up the price 4444%.

So I was curious  as to how these "decool" tumblers loom and looked up a review video. Here is what I found: https://youtu.be/wRpCvcX-d94
Now I don't speak Korean but judging by his tone of voice and hand gestures he was pretty excited about this.
I initially thought that it looked just like my tumbler and as the video progressed I became suspicious until about 3:20 where I saw the Lego logo on the studs. Man these people go to lengths to sell their phony product -.-

  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454

I just realized that the video was probably made for the original lego version judging by the title which has 76023 in it. I searched decool 7111 and completely missed the fact that this for the actual tumbler just in Korean  *facepalm*

    Huh? There's nothing to suggest it's Decool's.

They are slightly different, but the biggest giveaway is probably that the plaque doesn't say "Wayne Industries", just "Super Heroes". Presumably that's just one step too far.
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
To be honest, I didn't watch the video; I just commented as a response to the video, as if it was actually the case.

Sorry to add another topic but I think you would appreciate the description here.

@TigerMoth that looks much more like what I would expect, uneven plates and shoddy appearance.

Are ridiculous Craigslist ads allowed?  There is a dude on Craigslist around these parts that is trying to sell used Chima sets for more than they cost brand new.  And they keep getting refreshed almost every day.  I'm super depressed and fascinated by it at the same time.

He doesn't have the fezes (?) as he doesn't have the dino necks either. They are worth a fair bit now, I just sold a set of four of them for £28.

I don't think he's bothered with any of the rarer pieces.

Unstable foot joints?  Behold the result of an unstable foot joint.

'Minifigure' implies LEGO. 'Free LEGO piece' gets the word LEGO in the title too so it's returned in searches for the real thing. They even include the number for the LEGO set that includes the genuine minifigure.

Sure, the description fesses up, but it still comes across as a desperate and underhand way of selling an inferior product that infringes TLG and Lucasfilm trademarks.

There seem to be more eBay adverts like this than for the real thing :-(

Not strictly ridiculous, but it made me smile when I saw it:

Perhaps it's a prototype UCS AT-AT... all you need is 75% of the set nowadays apparently, or is that too soon!

"I can't see it myself." In that case I'm surprised he managed to take a picture of what he is selling because he's got to be blind.

And it didn't take long to work out who gave the weak joint the little help it needed to fail.
